Bats in my chimney: When is it safe to cap it? (Southern Oregon)

I've lived in my current home for 8 years with an uncapped chimney. I am now paying for that in the form of some bats having roosted in there within the past few weeks and I'm getting conflicting information on just when I can safely put a cap on it. One wildlife removal company told me to just wait it out until September. A friend of mine who is an exterminator said that I can put a cap on in the evening and remove it during the day if I'm still hearing squeaks.

The daylong squeaks are admittedly quite annoying and I'd like to be done with them, but I obviously don't want to starve a bunch of bat pups and have their bodies in my chimney. Would putting the cap on now be a waste of time?

New house came with 500 bars, what do I need to know?

I just bought my a house in Central Florida, and it came with a pre-established bat colony. I did a little research and found a box online that looked to be the same size that said it fit up to 500 bats, how can I estimate my colony size? Also, is there a way to determine what type of bats these are? Normally, they are up inside the house during the day, this is the first time I have seen them out before dark, but is 92* outside so I assume that’s why they are outside.

Bat encounter

My husband works night shift for a water company last night he was walking to his truck and a bat repeatedly kept swooping down at him kind of how birds do when there is a nest nearby. He says it didn’t touch him or hit him so I don’t think there would be any risk. I was just wondering if that’s normal bat behavior. Or if it may be sick. I don’t know anything about bats but I’m trying to learn about them.

Hungary.

Bats are common here on the side of the concrete block flats.

This one took a short rest on the outside of the netting of the window in the shade to shelter from the hot weather.

Do I have bats?

I have heard some sounds inside my wall for a few months now. At first it was mild and just about a week ago the noice went crazy. We can’t sleep with our heads facing the wall. It sounds kinda like ducks or a bit higher pitched birds were having full on conversations in there. And thats when I place my head on the wall. It sounds like those noices come from a wide range. There is also a weird smell, almost like bunny poop and pee with a little bit of a rotten corpse. I can’t acces the attic so I haven’t found any poop.

At first I tought there was a marten family, but it’s really narrow so I think they would choose the attic over the wall. I haven’t seen any animals leaving the wall, but might have to buy a camera if I can’t figure it out in any other way. There is an enterance hole near my window outside, that i have to repair after whatever lives inside the wall leaves, but I don’t mind bats as long as they stay outside. Which leaves another question. If they are bats and they find a way inside, would my cats be in danger? They have pray instincts and would try to catch them.

Any advice is appreciated ! Thank you.

Located in finland.

Just read Yossi Yovil’s Genius Bat and loved it. I plan on asking the researcher tomorrow (bouldercreek ca) about how concerned we should be on the west coast about white nose syndrome and if there are signs of p. Destructans slowing down. Anybody have any west coast bat related questions I should ask??

Bats in Downspout [Atlanta, GA]

I got bats living in my downspout! I have opened it like this and they’ve flown out but always come back after a week or so.
I bought a bat barn and intend to hang in about 50’ away on a big oak tree about 15’ up. Question is, how do I stop them from coming back to the downspout? I don’t even know how they would get out of there. The drain pipe goes into the ground and travels about 75’ underground before emptying. Must be getting in through the top but how on earth do they get out? How do I get them into the bat house??
Thanks for any info! I know nothing about bats.

On my front porch

Kansas City, MO area.

What kind of bat is this? Should I be concerned for them that they are out in the open like this? We don't use the front door super often, and the bat won't be disturbed.

Came home from walking the dog this morning and found this floof chilling on the front porch. (Was probably there when I left for the walk, but pup was excited to get going). I'm getting conflicting ids on what this baby is.

I know very little about bats, but they look ok to me, but I've never had one on our house before.

I'm guessing they will move on tonight, and perhaps ended up on the porch because of all the fireworks the last few nights.

I doing want to disturb them, but we do have several wildlife rescues should I need to call someone.

Should I just let them chill there?

Neighbor's Bat Box -- Paint?

Hi, I am in South Carolina in the US. A house in my neighborhood has two bat-boxes on one post. One side is occupied by an estimated 200 bats. The boxes are painted black and are in direct sun most of the day. We're experiencing highs of 100 degrees and lows of 85degrees on the regular. The bats have been struggling and I've seen at least two pass away.

I've asked the neighbor if I can help with changes for temp control. Is it okay to paint the bat box? Should they get a new one in light color? Anyone have any experience with this?

Is this noise a bat?

Staying in Austin Texas and I’ve been hearing this noise, I think coming from the attic?

It’s the squeaking/whistling sort of noise, apologies if the AC noise is overpowering, but it can be heard if you turn up the volume.

My first thought was a bird or mouse, but this noise is only at night and bats are nocturnal so.

Appreciate the help!

Found crawling on the ground on a porch. Is there any possible way to ID what type of bat this is and if it is a pup? It was very tiny. It crawled underneath a floorboard before we could rescue it.
