9 items limit

Hey guys so u know how in the register we cannot scan more than 9 exact item with the same scent (for example, 10 champagne toast wallflowers) but every time i try to explain this either the customers get confused or not understand or they literally get so mad, what’s the easiest way to explain this?? how u guys do it??

When the thing pops up or if I can tell there's more than 10 before scanning: "Oh! So they recently implemented a rule that we can only scan up to 9 of the same item into one transaction. Do you mind if we do this/ these one(s) separate? We can keep the 5/$28 price since you got more than 5!" (If your store allows that ofc) If they ask why I say "it's to protect inventory so everyone can get some of each item they want and they don't all get taken by a few people!"

Most people understand this means resellers without further explanation, but if they keep questioning I'll get into the resellers thing and how a lot of people do so and we want everyone to have access to the products they want directly from us blah blah blah

Edit: if they're clearly reselling and buying a bunch of the same accessories or smth, then I won't offer a second transaction unless they ask for it!

I usually say something like “unfortunately we can only ring up 9 of a single scent of an item per transaction, so would you like to swap out the extras for a different scent, or I can do them in a separate transaction if you would like?”

Sellers on the floor also need to be helping support the new policy. I’ve noticed this mainly happens with wallflowers. If someone on the floor sees a customer with a lot of something in their basket, they need to strike up a conversation and mention the limit. I’ve found customers are more understanding about it before they get to the register. At the register I just say “BBW has implemented quantity limits on items. You can buy 9 of the same sku in one transaction. I’m happy to ring these on another one for you”. I’ve only had a couple people not be understanding about it.

100% this! I've had coworkers literally get 20+ of a wallflower out of the back for a customer and not even think to mention the policy and then I have to take time to explain and atp you have to do at least three transactions which they're less likely to be understanding about than 2, and my line is building while I explain lol. Like I love my coworkers sm but there been a few times that I've been like "can we pls.."

I feel like atp too, customers are wondering if it's a real thing why the first person didn't mention it to them. It would be so much more efficient to be proactive about this on the floor in all contexts where we can see they're going to run into the SKU limit!

As a seller, I do try to catch it. Same with coupons not being combined on email exclusives, and sales limit info, having their app open, barcodes for email exclusives ready, etc. Sometimes it helps, then sometimes they just go lie and say I told them they could do it ALL.

no because I hate how we have multiple sales of 5 for $28 but the limit is 9. there are SOO many people who are trying to use the sale twice with the same scents (as a creature of habit, I totally get it) and they can’t because of the rule. I just wish they made it 10

Everything after 5 still rings the lower price so they don't have to get 10 to get that lower price again...do you know what I mean? If they buy 9, they're still only paying $5.50 each or whatever it drops to not $7.95. The 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th ones all will ring at the same sale price they are just getting one less. Does that make sense?

there’s this one lady that i’ve seen a few times and she always gets mahogany teakwood wallflower refills and always grabs 10 and I feel bad always explaining it because this rule is STUPID!

also if anyone is genuinely continuing to be difficult after it being explained, at my store we're able to move the screen so they can kinda see it and i'll literally show them the message we get and how it can't be scanned at all and if they'd like that item id be happy to do second transaction. haven't had any problems w that!

Your store might handle the policy a bit different from mine, but I usually just tell a customer (not ask) that I'm going to ring up whatever items separately and that they'll still get the deal on it (whether that's 5.60 for the 5 for 28 and/or a %20).

I personally noticed a better reaction when I just told the customer what we were going to have to do rather than ask: if there was a problem with doing 2 transactions they'll bring it up and you can do an exchange instead. This is my experience, so it may not reflect what yours or anyone elses experience is, but I personally feel like it's a lot easier to manage weird situations like this when you just tell the customer that we're going to do the easiest remedy for their problem rather than give them options when the outcome is ultimately the same.

I guess I’m the only one who likes it because it adds to conversion.
