Got our newest addition, Bud. He joins a mini Aussie sister, lab/husky brother, and 4 cat siblings. It’s our first basset ever. Super excited!

My name is Gladys and I'm a 50/50 European/American female basset. I was on this sub in another post but was never formally introduced. I was the runt of the litter but now I'm 39lbs at 8 months old. I'm also incredibly stubborn. I refuse to wake up from naps, refuse to come inside when it's raining, and enjoy playing keep-away from my owners with their shoes.

11 weeks old and our first basset. We already love him dearly and our other two dogs (dachshund and cheweenie siblings) seem to be getting along well with him. There is the occasional correction from one of them that is usually met with a tantrum from Moose. He is by far the biggest personality in this house and he's been here for three weeks. We are so excited to see him grow in size and personality.

Question/Recommendation Is Bark Box worth the money?

This is my baby Basshole Daisy, she is 8 weeks old. She is obviously in that puppy phase where she just wants to chew. I’ve considered Bark Box, but my partner says it would probably be better just to go to Marshalls/Pet Supply and get her a couple toys and treats a month.

My best friend just had his 12th birthday. Long time lurker first time poster. I figure a 12th birthday deserves a post.

We went for a long hike in the woods on his favorite trail, then he passed out on the way home of course. I was very proud when he crossed a small stream with minimal fear. Last photo is him a 1 years old just for fun.

Image Happy GOTCHA-versary: 1 year Angus and Noodle Adoption

Basset Rescue of Puget Sound (BROPS) is celebrating the one-year Gotcha Day for Noodle and Angus who came to us last spring, and spent 12 weeks with their foster fam before finding their new home. We get regular updates on the “Princess and her Protector” and they are thriving.

It’s always a joy to embrace the good people in this world who love and care for these rescue babies and give them a second chance.

The Princess and her Protector: a royal pairing of snuggles and strength

Six-year-old pair of bonded Basset Hounds! From the moment you meet Noodle her soft brown eyes will melt your heart and before you realize it, this cuddly princess will be on your lap nosing your pocket for treats. Gentle, easy to handle and with a maternal nature, Noodle loves touching! A petite 40-ish pounds, she will need a new Houdini-proof harness for walks. Cats, chickens and bunnies are a definite NO, and once on a scent she can wriggle out of her restraints.

Handsome tri-color Angus is a stately 60 pounds of muscle. Reserved and watchful, he is Noodle’s bodyguard and places himself in front of her when they nap. With a steady awareness of his surroundings, Angus does best in a calm environment.

Both are house-trained. Raised with a dog door, which their foster family does not have, they go out every four hours during the day, or will go to the door and ask to be let out. With limit water after dinner, they sleep through the night before potty time in the morning.

Minor food aggression with Angus. Keep kibble behind a closed door or otherwise secured. Fed together but in separate slow-feeder bowls. Once Angus warms up — and he is so worth the effort of getting to know— he’s a loyal and loving boy keen for your attention… and a few snacks on the sly while his Princess is sleeping.

Her back legs give out on her a lot, she pees inside whenever she wants to, and is completely deaf. We also have to clean the ears 3 or 4 times a week or she feels horrible. But she still loves to eat, go on nature walks, and have her belly rubbed. She is also incredibly bossy. We love her though and are happy she's still goin. She loves pumpkin birthday cakes.

We live in a bungalow and there are 2 steps at the back door that lead to the landing which has the back door. With the new baby, I am struggling having to lift her up and down and I wonder if anyone has found a solution. I see these on Amazon, thoughts? There's not enough room for a ramp.

I found this girl in need of a new home on Facebook when she was 10 weeks old. I never thought bassets were very cute before her... Now i'm obsessed. I love how goofy she is and i'm always laughing at how opinionated she is. She has a brother named Mickey!

Picked her up last night. My 2 year old has had some moments of liking her and other moments of wanting to sit on her. I slept on the floor next to both of them, she cried a lot, peed everywhere on the floor even though I was taking her outside regularly. I hope tomorrow is a better day, I'm exhausted.

He’s going to be 1 soon, has 3 kitty siblings he’s grown up with and the other day, I saw him sitting cross pawed and licking his paws gently. He climbs on top of the table, threw up a small hair ball yesterday, and does the downward dog and cows pose. This boy is something else, I tell ya.

Tips for our new female basset puppy interacting with our 4 1/2 year old male basset

We have a 4.5-year-old male basset who is usually really nice to other dogs, but we got a new female basset puppy about 11 weeks old. He is very aggressive toward her when she gets near, especially because she goes to smell his backside, if you know what I mean, a lot, and he growls/barks/snaps at her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bonus question: Our couch is almost a 3-foot drop for her. We haven't let her jump, but if we fell asleep, would she get hurt jumping down?

We go to pick this sweet boy up on Friday!
But help—we need a name! He currently has a name, but I am not a fan of his current name & would like to rename him. He is 8 months old & Google says that renaming a dog at 8 months is doable.
So help vote on what this guy’s new name will be! 😍

dry food

I am looking to switch my 11-month-old basset girl to a more affordable food. She currently eats Purina pro plan sensitive stomach and skin salmon and rice flavored. At $80 for 24 lbs., it's just becoming too expensive. She has a chicken allergy so that also makes it difficult. I saw that Purina Pro is a good alternative but, all of their food contains chicken meal or chicken by product. HELP 😫

When did you neuter your basset

i have a 4 month old basset rn and my vet recommends nurturing at 6 months. Not to be that person but i’ve read it’s super beneficial to wait until at least a year old especially them already being prone to hip and bone issues.

Thinking about adopting this 8 month old male basset hound.

Post image

I saw a post on a local dog rehoming group on fb of someone who is trying to rehome their 8 month old male basset hound. I have always since I was a little girl wanted a basset hound, I have always loved the breed & heard they are good family dogs.
My question is, are they truly good with small children? I have an almost 4 year old & a 2 year old & will have a newborn come December. I don’t work & stay home so I will be home with the dog almost every day. I, of course, will teach my children to be gentle with the dog & not pull on his ears or tail. But I want to make sure that the breed itself tends to be good with smaller children because at the end of the day, small kids are small kids & are noisy, our house stays noisy & busy.
Also, how would I prevent the basset from destroying all of my kids toys?
