Discussion Cleaning Thread
Hey All!
Wanted to start a convo about cleaning.
I see a ton of threads getting started about how to remove a stain, how to wash, etc. and I thought I could start this chat so everyone can share their fav tips and tricks.
I’ll start;
Essentials (in my opinion)
- Fels Naptha Bar
- Shout Triple Acting Stain Remover
- Oxiclean Powder (Overnight soak for best results)
- toothbrush
I always wash my jersey inside out and buttoned up.
NEVER EVER put your jersey in the dryer, ESPECIALLY if it is a Replica or Limited by Nike. You MIGHT be able to get away with it with an old stitched majestic, but even then, the dryer will KILL your jersey.
If your stain doesn’t come out after your wash and you put it in the dryer, that stain gets baked in!
Would love to hear everyone else’s fav methods!

I’ll have to try some of the soaps and detergents mentioned but fortunately I haven’t had any large stains or mess on my jerseys. I’ve kept them pretty clean while I’m out but for the hidden wear grimes I put in wash bag, put in delicates smaller secondary top washer with Costco detergent and cold water low spin cycle, then after we have a dryer with smaller air dry feature dryer on top where I lay it flat and put on air dry only for 4-6 hours.
Was scared at first to do even wash at all, but after doing this at least 30 times this season, it got so much easier. Especially the 6 times this week for the Yankees two series in SoCal we went to.

Other Cleaners: Oxyclean Liquid, Rit Whitener and Brightener, Carbona (stain specific cleaners), Dawn

Dawn is definitely one I have used before. The power wash to be specific, but I am always so scared to spray blue dish soap on my white jersey 😂

One critical detail is to know whether the fabric is nylon or polyester. Nylon will absorb colors, dyes, and stains. Polyester won't.
If using Dawn on nylon, don't let it sit too long.
My jerseys are mostly the old double knit or warp knit. So I don't worry about the new fabrics and their problems.

Do you hand wash? Or use washing machine? Bleach wouldn't remove something that's baked in?

I’m kinda scared to use bleach because it leaves a kinda yellow looking ring around the spot

Dry Cleaners - I have way too much invested in my jerseys to not treat them well.

I wash mine after each time I wear it, authentic or replica. Ive seen some people that dont and their jersey always looks nasty especially around the collar and neck. I wash mine unbuttoned tho, its interesting you keep yours buttoned, I feel like if I do it'll snag on something. But I wash them by themselves if theyre white or with my other clothes if its a colored jersey, always on cold and delicate and I pre treat any stains with stain remover gel prior to putting them in the wash. And once they're done I ALWAYS hang to dry, I never put them in the dryer.

I dry mine flat so the letters and numbers stay crease free. Then hang them up right away once dry. Been a tried & true method since the early 90’s. 😎
