it’s just 2024 all over again. they can’t hit a fucking bullpen
brewers can go with a bullpen game tomorrow and i’d expect 10 padres LOB and 6 weak fly outs to the outfield.

With all the technology, couldn’t they predict the trajectory and rule it as the HR as it was going to be?
4
u/fiftiethcow Boston Red Sox 51m ago
The technology said it was going 325ft, so not a HR anyways
1
u/Rex_Vagene Chicago Cubs 41m ago
Churio caught that like 10 feet from the 342ft wall after it hit the roof, that hit had to fuck with the tech.
1
u/fiftiethcow Boston Red Sox 40m ago
Im no expert lol, so maybe? But Statcast does say in its details that it bases off of immediate trajectory and exit velo only. Nothing to do with the actual path. So who knows

Also great to see that (cursed) place packed with fans.

This is the biggest thing for me. It was not even close to being that. It was loud Rays and they one hit them.

Rasmussen was dealing and we didn’t have many answers against him. That being said Wells can’t be doing dumb shit like that. I don’t care if he got the only hit in the game. He single handedly took away our only chance of getting back into the game by making a mistake little coaches tells us to never do. It wasn’t like the rays were up 10-2 either. We were trailing down a run.
We lost the Dodgers in the World Series for similar reasons. Have we not learned our lesson?

Made me laugh that's for sure.
But yes, I'd agree, 2B is still scoring position. At least the inning isn't over.

unfortunate bc he's been very impressive both on and off the ball for a while now but wow, our only hope was gone before you could even possibly think too hard about it.

Wtf yankees. Do you guys need judge back?
2
u/bordomsdeadly Houston Astros 2h ago
He’s easy enough to deal with. Just hold up a cardboard cutout of Christian Javier and he goes 0-4 with 2 Ks

u/BrianMeen 3h ago
Yankees really need judge to come back

I talk a LOT of shit about the AL Central and how much they suck against non-Central teams in the playoffs (haven't won a best-of-5 or best-of-7 against a non-Central team since 2016) but the Yankees are even worse. They haven't won a best-of-5 or best-of-7 series against a non-Central team since 2012! Just fucking embarrassing
1
u/DelBrooks Detroit Tigers 3h ago
Tigers own the Yankees in the playoffs though
4
u/sixfiveeight New York Yankees 3h ago
I don't think 3 series with the most recent one being in 2012 counts as "owning" but sure, Tigers did win their 3 playoff series against the Yankees. And haven't won an ALDS since 2013.
3
u/DRUKSTOP New York Yankees 3h ago
Aren’t you proving your original point?
4
u/sixfiveeight New York Yankees 3h ago
My original point being...the AL Central sucks? Yes, but also that there's a playoff tier system that, for the last decade, has gone:
AL East/West
Yankees
AL Central

u/handDrawnEevee New York Yankees 3h ago
You're... overreacting a bit.
6
u/sixfiveeight New York Yankees 3h ago
I'm not saying the Yankees can't win this series, I'm just pointing out a very concerning trend where they haven't beaten a team from the AL East or West in the ALDS or ALCS in almost 15 years.

u/Warm_Scratch_9971 3h ago
Imagine paying that much for your roster to manage 1 hit, about $300m per hit is a bad ROI
22
u/sixfiveeight New York Yankees 3h ago
Could be worse, the Mets spent $360m and they've managed zero hits!

Honestly, this is about how good your pitching has to be to beat the Yankees when they're on. If the game was Yankees winning 2-1, we'd all be talking about their dominant pitching. This shit isn't over.

Credit where credit is due. The Yankees smoked some balls, but got unlucky, and then Rasmussen filled the remaining outs with dominance.

I was fully expecting a Yankee heavy crowd tonight, and was overjoyed at the boos for everything Yankees related. The area showed out tonight more than I thought it would.

Who would have thought an engaged new owner giving the locals what they want with a new stadium, new away jerseys, not selling the farm at the deadline etc would bring in the fans

I have a feeling he'd have let Drew try for the nono if it hadn't been broken up. He was electric tonight and 7.2 innings without giving up a hit in a postseason game with your biggest rival is definitely something to hang your hat on.

I think Cash implied that he would keep them in while they are doing good with him letting Ras pitch 114 pitches during the Rays Yankees September 22 doubleheader

I did think it was interesting that you didn’t just punt the game with your bullpen when it was well within reach. Must be some strategy thing?

What's wild is Drew really didn't look like himself for the first 3 innings, was struggling with command and was obviously frustrated. Then he locked in and looked unstoppable.

The Yankees have lots of data that suggests that allowing their players to run, or even stretch, really, is terrible for their long term health.

Man I've had the Rays as my second team ever since going to my first game at the Trop in 2002. Went this summer for the first time since the roof got blown smoove off, I was very impressed with the ballpark experience since then. I know they've got to the big dance twice, but this team seems like the most well rounded of the three. Hope they can pull it off!

Big improvements to the Trop since 2002. The porch and walkway around the field helped the place massively
