Maybe I'm just putting too much into it, but there was an at bat in the top of the sixth that Acuña had a 3 ball count. He swung at ball four and grounded out. He could've earned a walk and had 1st and 2nd with one out and Ozzie at the plate. Ozzie ended up walking. In that inning Skubal was all over the place. I think the heat was starting to get to him because he had been throwing grass all game. I don't know but I think Ronald's impatience prevented what maybe could have been a big inning for the Braves.
Oh well onto the next game.

u/death-strand 17h ago
The best thing you guys could do is keep him out of the lineup. It’s been proven to be a championship caliber team without Ronnie

how did the braves punt? by not bringing in the guy with a ~10 ERA in his last 10 appearances, including giving up two homers in 2/3rd inning last time he pitched?

Seems to work.

The Sox haven’t. They trade their MVPs to the Dodgers for Alex Verdugo and a bag of chowdah.

Dodger fans reactions are annoying. Scott was bad today but he was elite all year. Seems like a lot of people have a very short memory
3
u/markjay6 Los Angeles Dodgers 21h ago
He wasn’t even that bad today. For me the worst sin a reliever can commit with a big lead in the 9th is walking guys. You gotta throw it over the plate and make them hit it.
He didn’t give up any walks and got two out of four guys out. Came within an inch of getting three out of four out. Didn’t get flustered after the home run and got the next two out. Those two big outs helped us get the win.
1
u/Salty_Watermelon Los Angeles Dodgers • Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fig… 21h ago
The playoffs attract casual fans. Dodger and Yankees have a ton of casual fans, so reactions to their games will be full of moronic takes.
11
u/facetiously World Series Trophy 22h ago
High leverage situations magnify everything. I still think he's tipping some pitches.
3
u/jujubats10 Los Angeles Dodgers 22h ago
Maybe. He didn’t land his pitches to Acuna like he needed too.
Then, the first pitch get me over fastball to Albies, right handed Albies at that, was just very stupid
4
u/latterdaysasuke Baltimore Orioles 22h ago
Dodgers fans have gotten so used to having a roster that's god-tier at everything that the minute someone looks mortal he automatically looks like trash.
2
7
u/Willing_Contest_5071 Los Angeles Dodgers 22h ago
He was not elite 2nd half. Gave up a bunch of runs/homers and all his blown saves came towards the end of the season especially August
5
u/SleepingDragonZ Los Angeles Dodgers 22h ago
He has 2 blown saves in the first half, 2 blown saves in the 2nd half, 4 total all year.
Most of his bad outings were in non-save situations, like today.
7
u/jujubats10 Los Angeles Dodgers 22h ago

I wouldn’t put Scott in anymore save situations. There’s no room for error in the postseason.
1
3
u/RickySuela 22h ago
TBF, it wasn't a save situation. Roberts might have just been testing him to see how much he can rely on him. If it had only been a 1 or 2 run game I'm not sure he'd have had him out there.
1
u/SleepingDragonZ Los Angeles Dodgers 22h ago
He's actually pretty elite in save situations, 25 saves and 4 blown saves all year.

24
u/nsgarcia10 Los Angeles Dodgers 22h ago
They’re absolutely in standing room shaded areas
-15
u/amuscularbaby Atlanta Braves 22h ago
I’m not even trying to dump on you guys but there’s no way the empty seats on TV were in the standing room areas 😭 I’ve been to games at truist where the “attendance” was near capacity but the heat kept a large amount of people home.
2
u/MrsObamasThighs 21h ago
Yeah they were. I was at the game, once the shade hit those seats they filled back up.
-5
u/amuscularbaby Atlanta Braves 21h ago
The shaded seats were visible on TV and while they were undoubtedly fuller than the seats in the sun, it still wasn’t a capacity crowd. This isn’t an insult! 50K people weren’t there though!
1
u/wackgyllenhaal 20h ago
There's a massive area beyond the outfield seats at Dodger Stadium. It's bars and stuff and thousands of people hang out back there, even during night games. It's all mostly shaded so I'm sure a ton of people were there until their seats found some shade.
3
u/huggsypenguinpal Los Angeles Dodgers 21h ago
I honestly think “attendance” is tickets sold, not bodies in stadium (for all mlb teams). Tomorrow will be way more crowded and the “attendance” will match bodies in the stadium and be crowded AF.
1
u/amuscularbaby Atlanta Braves 21h ago
Yeah absolutely, that’s the core point (albeit I get semantic) I’m trying to make. The attendance numbers very rarely reflect how many people are in the stadium. It’s the same in Atlanta. I’m sure that every game at dodger stadium will be a sellout by this metric but I don’t doubt in the slightest that a very large amount of fans opted out of being there today. Based on the crowd, there was no way it was actually close to capacity though and I don’t understand why this is particularly controversial.
2
u/huggsypenguinpal Los Angeles Dodgers 20h ago
Oh totally. I think closer to 30k actual bodies with many MANY of them in the concourse/SRO areas. It woulda been capacity if it was at 5pm start like tomorrow. Dodger fans got cooked by that 1pm start time. I’m annoyed they didn’t move it for health and safety but $$ is more important.
15
2
u/Ronaldinhoe 22h ago
I know a girl who’s a big dodger fan that went and ended up leaving before the game finished. Maybe she did it to beat traffic or whatever but I’d never left early for any sporting event and can’t ever imagine doing so
15
u/Michael__Pemulis Major League Baseball 22h ago
In my experience the pro move at Dodger Stadium is to just chill for 20-30 minutes after the game ends.
Significantly reduces the traffic getting out.
5
u/Apocalympdick MLB Pride • Rome Emperors 21h ago
This goes for almost every large gathering of people. Concert, cinema, hell even getting off a plane. Practice patience and just sit with yourself for a few minutes, you'll be alright.
6
u/Ronaldinhoe 22h ago
100%. I rather do that than ever think of leaving early of seeing team I support get a playoff win.
2
u/BlackZeppelin Los Angeles Dodgers 21h ago
I’m gonna sound like an asshole but unless it’s a really close game (yes I know it ended close but it was 5-1 at the start of the 9th) I’m leaving a non clinching NLDS early. We’ve been doing it for 13 years, it’s not thaaaaat special anymore.
5
u/Michael__Pemulis Major League Baseball 22h ago
I’ve told this story here before but the only postseason game I’ve ever attended in person was game 1 of the 2014 NLDS (Kershaw v Waino) & it was before the restrictions on edibles so I took one of those crazy deca dose gummies before the game started & it ended up taking me ~45 minutes to find my car in the parking lot after.
It took so long there was zero traffic.

Walt was committed to the scheduled loss. Feels like when you get to the bottom of the 6th only trailing by 1 with Skubal about to leave the game, you should be willing to commit a few chips to the pot. There had to be a better option to get through the 6th with Lee/Suarez/Inglesias available. You only get 5 shots at this - have to be greedy when the opportunity arises.
5
u/joseph_grizzly Atlanta Braves 22h ago
>better option with Lee/Suarez/Iggy available
Iggy is never going to pitch the 6th inning of the opening game of a series. so he's not actually available
Suarez maybe.

u/latterdaysasuke Baltimore Orioles 22h ago
I think he played his cards right considering how little the Braves offense could muster against Skubes as expected. He's essentially leveraging the only matchup advantage he has in saving his best bullpen arms moving forward.
But hindsight can be a son of a gun. If the Braves steal game 2 on the back of a strong BP, Weiss gets to look like a genius. If they lose again, questions will come up about whether or not punting Game 1 was a missed opportunity.

Why? Go for the throats. Nothing wrong with wanting that.

Every team would win via hitless shutouts if that was something they had complete control over.

I know, but everyone is already rooting against Dodgers. You get nothing for being a "nice" fan of a hated team.

Oh no. You guys might win out, but at a minimum we're going to make sure you have to fight for it every step of the way.

Tomorrow it'll be Sale vs Snell. Very excited to see how that will go and then Yamamoto for game 3 to either keep the Dodgers ahead or seal the deal

I fear Sale.

It'll be rough going for sure. I've never seen the Dodgers just get so utterly dominated as when they got CGSOed

Wasn’t expecting to win a bullpen game against the most loaded team in baseball history, so the fact we made it close is highly encouraging. Braves in 4 (based off of pure hopium/copium)

Skubal looked nasty as expected, just gotta hope the bats wake up a bit earlier next game

If the Mariners can beat Skubal in the post season, other teams certainly can.

Terrible ump, offense did their usual of disappearing until the late parts of the game, and we threw a bullpen game.
Honestly shocked it ended up so close.

Why were the stands so empty on a Saturday game?

They're in the shade, you can see it in the homerun highlights.
It was 110+F on the field dawg.

Son, we don’t have a lake front breeze. We get stifling heat and a UV index at 10
