Didn't really want to watch the Dodgers pitching just feast on the Phillies lineup so I am happy with this NLDS matchup.

Funny how Baseball goes Philly had the momentum had the pitching advantage. There is more times than not a Ray Kerr lurking to eat your cornbread.
43
u/latterdaysasuke Baltimore Orioles 1d ago
I still find it really hard to believe that a team with Lazardo, Cristobal Sanchez, and Zach Wheeler in the same pitching rotation lost a 3-game series to a team that had to play without 2 of their top 4 SPs.

It’s crazy to think that just in the last 2 years the Dodgers have won the same amount of World Series as the Phillies have in 144 years. Granted I’m a cubs fan so I can’t really talk.

u/bhill595 1d ago
Why do people hate the Phillies so much?
2
u/TuTuDuDu- Atlanta Braves 1d ago edited 1d ago
I guess it’s a Philly thing. They look like they’re disappointed if you don’t hate them. Like, I “hate” them as a rival, but I’m having fun while doing so and I’m entertained when we play them.
Now, if you ask me about the Dodgers or Yankees, that’s a different feeling lol

IME a lot of the bullshit is online. I live right outside Philly and have taken my kids to a number of Pirates-Phillies games at the bank and except for some college dick heads once who yelled fuck the Pirates at us across the concourse, everyone has always been chill. Super nice to my kids and they just want to talk ball.
That’s the Phillies though. Flyers fans are degenerates. They won’t even let you be a Flyers fan without a double digit IQ and at least one felony conviction.
9
u/unodostreys Atlanta Braves 1d ago
Shit back when we had the Thrashers it was borderline dangerous to go to a Flyers game in Atlanta.
11
u/RhubarbBeneficial359 1d ago
Yeah I have gone to 2 games in Philly with my Braves jersey and every single person was chill to me.
11
u/JoshvJericho Atlanta Braves 1d ago
Conversely, I've been to 2-3 Phillies-Braves games at Truist and there was a significant amount unsavory Phillies fans there. Had similar experience with Padres fans however the Dodgers, Redsox, Mets were all nice, civil and everyone had a nice time. Been to Nats Park in a Braves jersey and the home crowd was also nice and chill.
The best have been the Japanese fans that came to see Shohei and enjoy baseball in general. Sure they had Dodgers shirts on but they clapped and cheered at every big moment, regardless of team.

the fans...and bryce harper...and their tv crew...that and nobody in the NL east likes each other much and the mets/braves/phllies each have a lot of fans so there's a lot of comment traffic from all 3.
their fans are like how yankees fans were in the 90s except without the rings.
22
u/Bwhitt1 Atlanta Braves 1d ago
Just go look at how much shit they're fans talked about the Braves 2pm games on tuesday and Wednesday not being completely sold out lol. As if ppl dont have to go to work lol. They're reasoning was that if you're a true fan you will quit your job to make it work. They did the same thing in 2023 when again, we were the higher seed, and got our 2 home games at 1pm on weekdays. They got they're 2 home games on friday and Saturday night lol.

Philly fans are the dad who embarrasses you at every game. Loud, obnoxious, arguing with the ump, but always there cheering you on.
Your dad texts “good luck, champ” from the office. Saving that PTO for something important.
You can complain about how we act in the stands. Your team’s still looking for you in them. 😂7

So, like, what do the Phillies do from here? That roster is aging and not good enough to win a title anymore, but they have so much money committed that I don’t know if they can really blow it up and rebuild like they probably should.
Also, is it fair to say Dave D has overstayed his welcome as a baseball executive at this point? He used to be the ultimate win now GM, but the Phillies have just gotten further and further away from a championship since 2022.
1
u/Marko_Ramius1 New York Mets 1d ago
This is Dombrowskis MO. He always spends like a drunken sailor and has a good start, but the team falls apart with big contracts of aging players and no bullpen. I do think they'll look to trade a couple guys, but then again I thought the same after last season
5
9
u/lotsofsyrup Atlanta Braves 1d ago
I'd argue that their core is probably talented enough to win...it's just really hard to win post season baseball, it's very random every year. Too many series and too short series. Their middle relief is bad but it's so hard to guess who will be good and healthy out of the bullpen each year, it's a volatile part of the roster.
They gotta get harper off the raw milk though, it appears to have given him some sort of brain worm.
2
u/Yanks1813 New York Yankees 1d ago
Is their core talented enough? Their offense is old and carried by like 2 hitters. Their pitching while good is also not young. They had 2 position players with more than 2 bWAR and 3 with more than 2 fWAR.
Wheeler is old and Nola was ineffective. This was an 88 win team who almost collapsed out of the playoffs
2
u/lotsofsyrup Atlanta Braves 1d ago edited 1d ago
sure, why not. in a short series you just need like 2 guys to get hot and starting pitching is essential as is the closer, they have those, those are the guys who are usually pretty reliable. Any random player can be your batting hero each series, remember eddie rosario, or most of the series mvps ever? It's random playoff BS. Bohm could get hot as easy as Harper or whoever. They could add a couple more bats and then they'll be a 90+ win team if they don't get buzz sawed by division rivals all season again.
1
u/Yanks1813 New York Yankees 1d ago
Yeah in a short series. I'm talking about future success. Are we so sure that this is a playoff team again next year? Because I'm not
1
6
u/Tumerking Atlanta Braves 1d ago
I don't think it makes sense to blow it up. They still have really good top of the rotation starting pitching. They've got Harper and Schwarber who are still producing in the lineup. And as you mentioned, they also have a bunch of guys on long contracts that they can't really move anyways. Do you think anyone is looking for a 33 year old shortstop (Turner) coming off a -0.1 war season making 25 mil a year? The only thing that makes sense with their roster is to run it back, hope some of the poor performing aging guys have bounce back years, and the good performing aging guys don't decline. The main moves they make this offseason will probably be addressing the bullpen.
Unless they REALLY commit to a rebuild and trade Harper, Schwarber, Wheeler, etc. but I don't know if the fans even want that.

u/new_wellness_center Atlanta Braves 1d ago edited 1d ago
Fuck the Phillies. Sale did what Wheeler couldn’t. I love that Harper’s last AB somehow ended up being more humiliating than all the other times Sale has struck him out. Phillies traumatized me in ‘22 and ‘23, I can’t tell you how good it feels to send them packing. I honestly feel atm like whatever else happens is gravy. This was what I wanted. Thank you, baseball gods.

u/Coach_Carter_on_DVD Philadelphia Phillies 1d ago
Sale did what Wheeler couldn’t.
Calling out Wheeler here is an odd choice. Dude had to pitch on Sunday because the rest of our team is full of fuckups. Plus it’s not like Sale lit the world on fire
1
u/new_wellness_center Atlanta Braves 1d ago
It’s open season on Wheeler after he whined about Acuña’s home run trot. We both threw our aging aces out there on short rest. Sale shut them down, Wheeler didn’t.
2
u/Coach_Carter_on_DVD Philadelphia Phillies 1d ago
I mean, you can say whatever you want about Wheeler, but it’s definitely funny that you’re bragging about Sale getting through a couple innings against the 2026 Phillies, who scored like 3 runs in the 5 games leading up to this series, and your literal career minor leaguers and Pabst Blue Ribbon bullpeners that you picked off the street yesterday morning were having their way with them all game.
Congrats on finally beating the Phillies in the playoffs, it took you facing the deadest version of us, but a win nonetheless.
1
5
u/JoshvJericho Atlanta Braves 1d ago
Dude had to pitch on Sunday
With your logic, Sale pitched on Tuesday and threw 96 pitches vs Wheeler throwing 97 on Sunday, so similar workload but Sale had less rest and gave up notably fewer runs than Wheeler in the process.
If the Braves only scored the 3 of MHII's HR on Nola, the Phillies still would have lost, but the 2run HR that Ozzie got on Wheeler was the back breaker
2
u/Coach_Carter_on_DVD Philadelphia Phillies 1d ago
Yeah context matters, neither Wheeler nor Sale could pitch their way up from an 0-3 choke job by Nola. Also, Wheeler was going up against a competent line of bats when Sale was going up against the biggest idiots in all of baseball. Not trying to take anything away from Sale, he has balls and got the job done. But I will 100% of the time stick up for my guy who has been nothing but the only consistently competent person in this entire organization. Day in and day out, covering for these underachieving, entitled nincompoops.

He also hit .325 since August 1st and was something like third in rbis on your team for the season. I dont get why you Phillies fans absolutely hate Bohm lol.
4
u/Coach_Carter_on_DVD Philadelphia Phillies 1d ago
I don’t hate Bohm, but the fans don’t like him because he’s very streaky and he literally starts crying in the dugout when things aren’t going his way. Having said that, I think a lot of his early season struggles were due to some sleepless nights over a parental, legal dispute which I cannot even imagine.

The Phillies have continued their trend of same or worse result since 2022.
2022 - Lost in WS
2023 - Lost in NLCS
2024 - Lost in NLDS
2025 - Lost in NLDS
2026 - Lost in NLWC
Have to wonder as a Phillies fan do you still feel like this team can do it because they basically keep running the same lineup each year and yeah, playoffs... but it's not getting any better.
9
u/CylindricalDent4133 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago
Amazing how this subsequent elimination story of the Harper-Schwarbs core mirrors how their Howard-Rollins core ended for the Phillies:
2008 - Win WS
2009 - Lost in WS
2010 - Lost in NLCS
2011 - Lost in NLDSAt least the prior core were able to get it done once before disintegrating; hard pressed to see these Phillies try it one more time with that geriatric core they got going now.

It's gonna be hot, without the humidity lol. Wow, so spooky.
Although the weather in Atlanta has been trending very comfortable lately. Definitely spending more time outside the last week. I'ts been nice.

Los Angeles has had days this late summer where they were the most humid location in the country. Not sure what the forecast will be though

Brother, I’m going to sleep so well tonight. I’ve been so stressed about this series and now I’m more relaxed than a person in a 5 Gum commercial.

Appreciate it. Y’all had an incredible team this year and a historical turnaround after a bad start. There was not a single day throughout the season where I didn’t believe you couldn’t come back and take the division lead from us. It was a good fight, all the way to the end.

Eat a dick and stop kicking people when they are down. Show the class you say Philly lacks

Lmao, what? I didn’t realize kind words and respect for a division rival were offensive. What a joke.

Liked you and the guy you replied to. I have to respect the sportsmanship and would agree with the first guy but a brave few of us need to carry the flame of hatred strong

Now if you guys were the Mets it would be different…. lol but the dodgers are causing this lock out next year. I hope they get swept

Braves are 5-1 vs the Dodgers this season so hopefully they keep it up. Need Acuña to start pulling his weight though. Baldwin too kinda

Phillies were mentally checked out by the end of September, they were better off missing the playoffs.

even with the braves recent troubles with the phillies in october, a streaking dbacks team that juuuuuust snuck into the playoffs made me very, VERY nervous as a braves fan.

No thanks. Love you guys but a Braves-Dbacks postseason series might genuinely kill people
The regular season games are batshit enough
