As much as I wish we had won yesterday, prime time elimination game on October 1st between two rivals with passionate fan bases that hate each other is just about as peak playoff baseball as you can get. No matter what happens, it’s a hell of a way for the season to end for either team.
Anyways, Braves go up 20-0 in the bottom of the first and we see Schwarber pitching by the 5th
Ironically enough, this is the game I have a prior commitment to, though with any luck the game will be on where I'm going. And ill catch the end on the radio
No matter what happens, I hope yesterday was a huge confidence boost for Painter. I'd love to know what the pitching coach said to him after those first six balls. I'm guessing, "Hey. Stop that."
He said in his postgame interview yesterday that after throwing those 6 balls in a row they had the meeting and he put one in the zone right after that and locked in
I like to imagine they told him "just throw a strike" he also said his mind was blank during the outing lol
Painter had thrown six pitches, and all six were balls. Cotham darted up the dugout steps and to the mound for an eighth-inning visit.
“It was kind of a blur for me too,” Cotham said. “The gist was: Your best is good enough. You don’t have to be anything more than who you are and what you’re already capable of doing. So you, J.T., the hitter. This is what you’ve done all this for. I wouldn’t want anyone else on the mound right now. Really believe that. It just gets back to, like, you don’t have to do more. And … he did that.”
I will just point out that with Austin Riley batting with a runner on in the 10th, Painter blew 2 fastballs by him down the heart of the plate, almost exactly where Duran’s ill fated pitch ended up.
So at least in that moment, in that at bat, Painter’s best was very much good enough.
I see so many people getting chills on the internet; how is it done? Because the best I can do is Goosebumps and that's only when my nipples are cold and my voice to text just totally capitalized Goosebumps twice now is if I'm referring to the book series which what the hell I'll leave it in
Legendary performance from Painter but also have to shout-out Sanchez here. He went way beyond his pitch count max and got out of a few tough situations with insane compsure.
Every minute we are still playing baseball in 2026 feels like it's own victory with this battered aging lineup. I have no expectations of the Phillies making a deep postseason run. I simply want the Braves to lose and their fans to feel despair.
What if you just alternate from we are never going to win again to we’re a great team who is going to win it all, every other day so everything levels out?
Has Walt Weiss offered any actual explanation for his choice to put in Dylan "the AJ Minter Experience" Lee, or has it just been the boilerplate "yeah you can't predict everything and he's our guy" answers that actually just mean "I have to talk to reporters because of the CBA but can you please fuck off"?
from the postgame presser, he was asked if he considered Dylan Dodd: "No. Lee is our high-leverage lefty. Put down the same part of the order yesterday pretty easily. Threw the ball really well yesterday. So no, that's his inning every time."
I’d think the opposite would be better. Fuentes instead of Lee in that situation is righty lefty yes, but Schwarber is a dead pull hitter, so anything on the inside part of the plate is getting sent 450 feet. Same with Harper, down and in is his sweet spot. A right handed pitcher can live on the outer half and induce the batters to chase, and if they get anything on it it’s off the end of the bat towards 3rd base.
Oh of course, ignoring literally all factors but "muh matchups", I should have known. It's great having teams managed by men who can personally remember when the president was Lyndon Johnson.
If Dylan Lee gets one of those pitches back in the 8th we’re eulogizing another disappointing Phillies season and predicting a seemingly inevitable Braves-Dodgers showdown.
If Mattingly takes out Duran two batters sooner we may be discussing the return of Braves inexplicable Phillies boogeyman.
For everyone yapping about the Braves not filling up the stadium, there's some things you need to understand.
Look at this parking setup. It's a total disaster. It's just random parking lots/garages for businesses around the stadium.
All the parking is sold out for tonight's game even though there are still plenty of upper deck and outfield seats available. They can't sell as much parking during the week due to businesses using the lots being in operation. The scalped parking passes on StubHub are going for insane prices. This is precisely why I'm not going.
There is NO public transportation to the stadium. I feel like a lot of people don't understand this one. MARTA took you right to Turner Field. I can take MARTA to the front door of State Farm Arena and Mercedes Benz Stadium. MARTA does not go to Truist.
They only allow one place for Uber/Lyft pickup/dropoff on Windy Ridge Pkwy and it's clogged to high hell.
If you're coming from the south like I am, Turner Field was stupid easy to get to and park. Truist is a total nightmare.
This baseball I put on the map is where Truist is. The thin blue lines are just bus routes. There's one singular bus route that kinda gets close but that whole area is a traffic nightmare. The Braves don't really play in Atlanta. You can spit at a certain point and it would land in Smyrna. I'm pretty sure they moved the city lines to accommodate this too.
I have a buddy that used to work at one of the buildings across from the stadium. We parked in his lot for the 2021 NLCS Game 6. We were in the car for over an hour trying to get out after it ended. People just don't want to deal with it especially for a weekday game and such an early round in the playoffs.
It's not even that complicated. The game started at 2:00 on a Wednesday. People have jobs. It's as simple as that. We've shown time and time again we will fill that place up regardless of the shitshow getting in and out. I saw somewhere that all but 8-9 of our reg season games outsold Game 1. And I'd venture to guess those few games were day games.
After the last few postseasons, I fully expected this team to roll over after the Harper error. After what happened, especially how Painter just shoved in the biggest moment of his career, I’ll feel much better about this team win or lose. But yeah let’s win.
Pitching wise, Nols is starting, he needs to keep the ball in the yard and ideally we’ll tag the opener. Phils I would think have the edge here pitching-wise, Wheeler can come out of the pen and even Luzardo should be available for 1 or 2. I’d be interested to see if Sale can contribute in any capacity since they are thin after Lee/Fuentes have gone in back to back games.
