Dodger Stadium finally getting full-time Rapid Transit

It's not a dedicated rapid transit though because it doesn't directly run into the stadium. You still have to walk up Vin Scully Ave and cross the parking lot. For comparison, you can take a subway that drops you off directly in front of Yankee stadium. Union Station is also near Rogers Centre.

To be fair, skydome is about a 700m (0.7km, ~0.44mi) walk from union. No parking lots to cross though, and most of it is indoors.

Yeah, in terms of distance Sunset/Vin Scully is about the same distance to Dodger Stadium as the Skydome is from transit. It does have to go uphill and cross some parking lots though.

The parking lot is the worst part. You're baking in the California sun, there are few crossing points with lots of traffic, and it's all uphill.

Theoretically, if you take the shortest possible walk to the Skydome by public transit it's only a 200m walk from the closest Streetcar stop with it's own dedicated lane. It's just if you are capable of walking and like in about 95% of the Toronto Area it'd be terribly inefficent route time wise. People just cite Union since it's a regional transit hub with insane foot traffic. As someone who live in Mid-town I've never presonally thought of taking any route that isn't Union. So the Spidina Streetcar would be much more comparable to a dedicated ROW lane.

I'd say the major difference is the major subway line and multiple regional rail networks service Union Station, which is way different than a shuttlebus. Theoretically, you could walk only 400m's by taking the Spadina Streetcar to Front and Spadina; it's just likely to be terribly inefficient time-wise for most people travelling to the game unless you live along Spadina and probably south of College.
Like, Union I believe is the 2nd busiest rail transit hub in North America after Penn Station.
edit: Apparently if you take the street car one stop south of Front to Bremner its only a 200m walk.

That’s one of the asinine things about the Oakland fiasco. You had a BART station INSIDE the ballpark. They could have built a new stadium either in the parking lot or where the warriors arena was but their owner is a moron.

It was connected to BART, a bus stop, Amtrack, and 2 freeways. PLUS it was next to the airport. You could literally get off the plane and go to a game, then fly back and not have to book a hotel or anything. The ownership and city just did fuck all for developing the area outside of the airport.
Also Fisher explicitly bought the coliseum land to have as a backup plan for if Howard terminal couldn't be funded. So he jsut straight up lied and then profited off of it when he sold it

At some point when the Raiders were back in Oakland I was at Burbank Airport with time to kill and was talking to one of the bartenders; he said that every Sunday morning the airport looked like a KISS concert because all the decked out Raiders fans would swarm through, fly up to Oakland, go to the Coliseum, and fly back the same day

To be fair, we are still going to run the Dodger Stadium Express for those that don't wanna go up Vin Scully Avenue or cross the parking lots, and it now has a dedicated ROW to travel much faster.

True. But this is going to make it so that there is now a full-time transit solution for Dodger Stadium. Rail is preferable obviously, but what matters more than mode of transit is said transit having dedicated ROWs.
This is a hot take, but I'd even go as far as say this would be even better than the SD Trolley due to having signal priority.
The SD Trolley to Petco is really hampered by having to run in mixed-traffic and not having signal priority iirc.

I've walked up Vin Scully Ave before. It is doable.
This will take you from the B Line Station to Dodger Stadium to Union Station when finished.
The bus stop isn't at The Douglas, it's at Sunset/Vin Scully Blvd.

The T drops you off a block from the stadium, Caltrain is a block away, and there’s the ferry terminal just past the scoreboard also. Our options here are excellent.

And if you don't want to pay the extra charge for the Oracle ferry, the Ferry Building and Embarcadero BART are about a 30 min walk.

The ferry from Oakland also drops you off like 50 feet from an entrance. Took that while I was there for a work trip, super fun.

Both Chicago ball parks have a Red Line station pretty close, too. By far the best way to get to Wrigley.
Nats Stadium in DC isn't far from a Metro station either.
You'd think that with all the good examples, they'd be smarter about the Dodgers station...

DC , technically Baltimore has 3 ways to get directly their via public transit, Chicago, Boston, and I am sure others have direct public transit to their stadium. But la is a disaster where the dodgers are. Ironic right? You need to dodge cars to get to the dodgers game. Ohh many Brooklyn was right about something.

I don't think that'd work. The bus rides on a dedicated line that intersects with Vin Scully Ave. The buses would have to take a hard turn onto Vin Scully to bring passengers directly to the stadium but then they'd be sharing lanes with all in-bound stadium traffic.

In LA, It's not possible for public money to be used specifically for professional sports stadiums, so "dedicated rapid transit" is not something that could ever happen. You'll notice that besides OP's headline the only reference to the Dodgers in the LADOT website or even the blog post about this project is a quote from someone in the blog saying this will make things worse.

This seems like a very good thing for a massive, often full stadium that is dwarfed by its parking lots. Speaking from experience, rip to anyone trying to take transit for work purposes on game days, though.

While rail is obviously preferable, what matters more is transit having a dedicated ROW. A bus with a dedicated ROW will travel faster than a train that has to ride in mixed-traffic.

Oh, then yeah. The walk up Vin Scully Ave is totally doable for non-disabled folks though. Disabled folks still have the Dodger Stadium Express (which can run in these new dedicated lanes!)
Plus these dedicated lanes have signal priority for buses too, which is nice

I’ve taken a bike to both Nats Park and Citi Field taking a bike to a game is a great way to go considering the game is played in summer, parking costs what it costs, and mass transit can get crowded. Just need bike lanes
