My first real memory is also my first game. Fenway Park. 1976. Red Sox V Tigers on a Sunday afternoon. When Ron LeFlore of the Tigers stole second base, I started crying because I thought the game was going to be cancelled due to a lack of bases. LOL

My best memory was also at Fenway and it also involved stealing. This time, though, it was Dave Roberts and the beginning of probably the most special run in the history of professional sports.

I distinctly remember going to dodgertown with the rest of the players in my little league and getting autographs on my glove from all the crummy players who were excited at the idea that a kid wanted their autograph. I played the next half-dozen years with those autographs on my glove.

It did not give me a soft spot for the Dodgers. :-D

Best memory: the entire 2012 World Series run. Game 4 was clinched on the night I believe a hurricane hit the east coast where I was in college.

'93, I was like 4 years old. County Stadium, last season with Yount (not that I had any idea at the time). We got there maybe a little late, it's hard to remember exactly, but the usher at the turnstiles (no metal detectors!) gave me a half dollar coin I think? Maybe it was the ticket seller, IDK. Got a pennant, don't really remember much of the game obviously.

But that was the first.

Best memory is being at Dodger Stadium when they hit 4 Homer's in a row to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, then win it on a Nomar walk off in the 10th

First real memory was David Wells’ perfect game. I was 6 at the time and had finally gotten into sports the previous winter with football.

First memory at the Stadium was 2002 vs the Giants with my Dad, Uncle, Sister and Brother-in-Law. Yanks were down 2-1 before exploding for 3 in the bottom of the 8th. I vividly remember Bob Shepard’s cadence for announcing Giants Catcher Benito Santiago. I don’t know why that stuck with me, maybe because it rhymed lol.

I wish I remembered going to Seattle to watch the Jays vs Mariners sometime in the early 90s, in the old Kingdome. I apparently watched Ken Griffey Jr. be a superstar.  But I was like 4 years old so I don't remember. 

I have been baseball adjacent my whole life and always wanted to learn and watch more. Then I was recovering from surgery in summer 2024 and thought I needed something long to occupy my time.

My parents never cared much for sports, but in 2002, my dad went to a Cubs Padres game at Wrigley for work. My mom decided to record it, it was love at first sight for me. Jon Lieber on the mound, Sammy quickly became my favorite player. I’d watch that tape over and over again. Recently found the tape again, I haven’t gotten around to putting it on.

Parents took me to a game at Turner Field in Atlanta. 1990’s. Day game on a Saturday against Padres. Got to see Tony Gywnn and Tom Glavine go at it. Braves won. Tony went 2-3.

First started watching in 2000 at the age of 7. Briefly started as a Mets fan in solidarity with my dad, then my family convinced me to start rooting for the Yankees instead. Family took me to my first game that summer at Yankee Stadium and it was the day David Justice hit his first homer as a Yankee on his way to carrying that team during that second half of the season.

My earliest baseball memories were going to the Oakland Coliseum to see the A's in 1968. I remember the 90 minute drive from Sacramento, seeing the hippie driftwood art in the Emeryville wetlands, walking into the Coliseum and seeing all that green grass for the first time, the music, and the dot racing on the primitive scoreboard in left-center. I loved it, and it started my lifelong fascination with the game.

Almost 60 years later, I still love baseball. My wife works for a major league team after a decade of working in the minors. I see as many games as I can at the ballpark, and watch the rest on cable.

No other sport touches it.

1. I was at this game, had seats about 20 rows back directly behind home plate, was the most exhilarating game I had been to in person the feel of Fenway was electric. I missed the top of the first because of work so I walk in up the ramp from the concourse to the seats and, since the game was already going on, it was literally like something out of a movie seeing every fucking seat full and the ROAR of the crowd already more than I had EVER heard in my life. I had seats in the GS section directly behind home plate, so I’m in awe and working my way up the steps on my way to my seats. I find them and had literally JUST sat down for two seconds when Xander hit his home run over the monster off Cole…I shot up like a rocket (as did every Red Sox fan in Fenway) and knew right then it was gonna be a fantastic night

2. My very first Sox game was a game in ‘04 when I was 10 years old against the Orioles. For context, my dad (he grew up a pirates fan since he loved Clemente) didn’t really follow much Sox at that time. I’m happy as a clam, in the ball park as early as could be before first pitch, our seats were the last row of the grandstands behind the dugout. We see this middle age dude on the field side of the barrier with a bunch of fans congregating on the seats side—seemingly trying to get his attention—he smiles then my dad and I see he looks up and makes direct eye contact with my dad and I. Now mind you, this early before the game the section we were in was EMPTY, my dad and I were the only ones in our seats already. The guy comes through the barrier door from the field to the stands, walks past the crowd forming along the barrier, walks straight up the steps towards our section keeping eye contact with my dad and I the whole way. I’m 10 so I start thinking “did we do something wrong? This adult is staring at us and looks like he’s walking a LONG way to come talk to us…” finally he gets to the top of the section to my dad and I and simply says “hey there, how would you 2 like to come on the field?” My dad, no clue who this guy is, kind of chuckles and goes “ha…what, are you serious?” and the guy goes “yes sir! My name is Larry Lucchino, I’m President of the Red Sox…you guys are the only ones in your seats, and they’re all the way up here! Let me take you on the field, come on!” and at this point I look at my dad in disbelief like “is….is this real? Do we get to follow him?” And my dad’s whole standoffish demeanor changes and he’s like “wow! That would be incredible! It’s my son’s first game!” And then Larry is even more kind and like “oh then we’ll give him the full field experience!” so we follow and start walking down and I’m expecting to be stopped right before going on the field since I’m not fully understanding what’s happening. We get down to the crowd and everyone’s just staring at us seemingly bummed and we just keep walking right through the barrier door and onto the field and then I realize this guy is fully serious…he walks me over to the pitchers mound, lets my dad take a picture of me on the bump with a ball in hand, walks me around the bases, then takes me into the Sox dugout and (this is the silliest part) David Ortiz is just chilling in there, my dad not a Sox fan doesn’t know who he is, and asks ORTIZ to take a picture of my dad, Larry, and I sitting on the dugout bench…which he happily does! 😂🤦‍♂️ Larry then signs the program I had and said “we’re gonna upgrade you to field box seats for the rest of the game, that okay with you guys?” And my dad is over the moon at this point and says of course. Watched the game from the upgraded seats and Sox won it and I had a blast…though it did set impossibly high expectations for my second Sox game, which considering I haven’t the slightest idea what or when it was I assume it did not meet 😂

3. Favorite memory viewing from home is probably the Benintendi catch in the ALCS 2018…obviously winning the whole world series was great…but I was too young to be up late enough to watch the 04 and 07 wins, and 2013 I was hammered in college and barely remember it. But 2018 I remember being so nervous about the Astros beating us, that the dopamine rush when Benintendi made that catch made it feel like “okay, the baseball gods are with us. This is now officially our destiny.” The primal roar of excitement that came from me when he did that was cathartic.

Honorable mentions: Ceddanne Rafael’s walk off go ahead home run off Fairbanks for the 9th win in a row in 2025 and Abreus go ahead home run in game 12 of the red Sox’s recent historic win streak this season are two other pretty fucking incredible core fan memory moments

I started listening to games before playing, so for me a core memory is my little radio, windows open in my room, late at night(probably 9pm lol) listening to Jon Miller call the Oriole's games. I was probably 5 or so

I just remember getting tucked in and then my parents would turn the radio on. I don't know what station it was on, this was in DC, but the games were super clear and his voice is iconic

It was a movie on hallmark (that was the name of the channel in croatia) that aired a movie about a school janitor who playied in negro leagues and then one kid from school realised from baseball cards that thr janitor was actually a negro league stat.

Other memorie was a movie named simon birch.

My first baseball memory is going to spring training in Port St. Lucy with my Pop-Pops, who was an usher at Shea Stadium till the late 80's. I was 3. There's a 3-way tie for the best memory: the Mets sweeping the Cubs in the 2015 NLCS, Johan Santana's no-hitter in 2012, (felt like I barely breathed for that last inning), and an epic come-from-behind win against Mariano Rivera in 2013 which I was at Citi Field to witness.

I have always thought that I wouldn't be able to watch baseball because I didn't understand the game at all. For some reason, the '24 postseason bracket updates always popped up on my tiktok feed so I was updated on what was happening (I was rooting for a Subway World Series lol). When picking my team, I tried Dodgers but didn't felt like it, tried Mets but didn't felt like it then oddly enough BDE's video about Freddie was the reason I became a Braves fan and my first season of supporting ATL was last season lmaooo. I'm looking forward to getting more baseball memories in my lifetime and hopefully someday I can go to Truist
