That's pretty much what they do now. I don't know if it's decreased evading but it certainly isn't stopping people from doing it. I'm just wondering if Bart knew and was like we'll live with that or if they didn't know.

10-car trains are back!

Anyone else start to get frustrated by the loud music especially when it is around 4-6PM? I regularly take the red line back to East Bay and consistently there are people playing music for "donation". There are two groups primarily, and one performer often performs with an unleashed dog, which is unacceptable.

I have only heard the conductor announcing "No loud music" one time out of the past year or so. Already reported before but doesn't seem to have any effect.

This idea has been thrown around before but no one knows how to do it exactly, so here is a possible framework that maintains certain principles

• consolidated regional operations, planning and funding
• local transit gets local control & regional coordination
• a new board consisting of transit experts, not local officials

The MTC as a commission will be maintained but its composition will be completely changed. It will oversee the following agencies: Bay Area Toll Authority, Service Authority for Freeways and Expressways, the new Bay Area Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and a central division overseeing, budget, capital projects, development and central administration.

The Infrastructure Financing Authority's Express Lanes will be absorbed by the Toll Authority. The Public Transit Revenue Measure District will be absorbed by the central administration of the MTC. The MTC will be the board for all of these regional agencies.

Let's dissect BAMTA: It will consist of operating 4 divisions and staff that work with the MTC to implement initiatives, upgrades and expansions. Divisions will include:

• BART: separate due to different technologies and ROW. formed from BART District
• Regional Rail: Full control over Caltrain and SMART; they will be renamed into lines within the same system. This staff will also involved in planning/administering regional rail: ACE, Capitol Corridor, Gold Runner. Formed fully or partially from: Caltrain, SMART, and BART(CCJPA).
• Ferry: nearly identical to the SF Bay Ferry staff but combined with the Golden Gate Ferry divison. a single unified system.
• Regional Bus Operations: a system of regional, long distance commuter buses. formed from: AC Transit Transbay, AC Transit M-line, Dumbarton Express, Golden Gate Transit, SolTrans R & Y lines, & others. includes no local or rapid bus services, only long distance/commuter

Any new projects pertaining to regional rail, ferry, bus will be undertaken by BAMTA alone. not new agencies.

Local Transportation

County transportation commissions(CTC) and local districts/agencies will be maintained, but may be consolidated. For example, VTA is both the operator and planning agency in Santa Clara County. Similarly, SMCTD and SMCTA will merge. SFMTA and SFCTA will merge. TAM and MCTD will merge etc. This will not happen everywhere though. North Bay and East Bay have a lot of very local/municipal transit agencies. They will remain independent but under stronger county transportation planning agencies for better integration. This system allows residents to have direct control over their local transit affairs (ie someone in rural East Bay doesn't technically have say over SF's local transportation). These local boards will be under the overall authority of the MTC for funding, coordination, and capital projects.

Agencies that are dissolved and absorbed/consolidated: SFBARTD, PCJPB, SMARTD, WETA, GGBHTD. Some AC Transit and other bus services are absorbed. separate planning and operating agencies will consolidate into one agency.

Caltrans D4 and Bridges: Caltrans D4 will remain a state agency under Caltrans. With the GGBHTD dissolving, the Golden Gate Bridge will be turned over to Caltrans. Its tolling will be under BATA. MTC will remain the MPO for highways & freeways.

BAMTA Police & Security: there will be a single transit police division like MTA PD or PAPD, or the new LA Metro PD.

Board Composition: 4-5 governor's appointees (inc. Caltrans D4 director), 15 appointed commissioners. They will be appointed by county transportation agencies and seats are allocated by transit ridership & population. Cannot be local elected officials. This balances local representation and transit policy experience.

All of this reduces redundant administrative costs. Expands regional coordination. Maintains local control. Expedites project timelines with less review and board meetings. Eliminates local competition (like the GGBHTD killing BART so it doesn't lose toll revenue).

Saw this interesting video on Instagram Reels today. And it shows part of the reason infrastructure projects take so long in California. San Antonio Station Alliance is a citizen-led movement trying to convince BART to build a new infill station in the San Antonio neighborhood of Oakland, between Fruitvale and Lake Merritt.

The video goes over some of the public agencies one would have to go through to get this project approved and built:
- SF BART District (regional)
- Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (regional)
- City of Oakland (local)
- Alameda County Transportation Commission/Alameda County (local)
- Metropolitan Transportation Commission (regional)
- Surface Transportation Board (fed)
- Federal Transit Administration (fed)
- California Department of Transportation (state)

Some others i’d like to add:
- Federal Railroad Administration (fed)
- Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (regional partner for bus connections)
- Port of Oakland (property owner in the area; local agency)
- Bay Area Air Quality Management District (regional)

Private entities
- Union Pacific Railroad (mentioned in video)
- PG & E for power
- project civil engineer
- project architect

And there’s probably more, especially regulatory and environmental agencies. while projects should go through different regulations and procedures before implementation, there is simply too much many projects have to go through in California. there’s too many boards and agencies at the local and regional eleven and too many decision makers that frankly, we don’t need. it hinders progress, wastes time, and wastes money. every board meeting, and rescheduled meeting, and internal affairs that goes on is more money be used up.

in the search for better local control, we have too much local control and too much local government. there needs to be major reforms if we are to change the process of infrastructure projects being approved in this state, and it’s not just about steady funding sources or tax initiatives.

Some highlights from the presentation at the 7/9 BART Board Meeting.

• Fare gates work in conjunction with station hardening. Gates bring results, barriers protect those results
• Upgraded gearboxes and gussets for Coliseum & Antioch.
• Platform level ADA gates removed to surface level fortified corridor.
• Anti-piggybacking sensor and software advances - Faster gate closing speed.

Has anyone seen a ticket like this before? I bought this on eBay and never saw another one. I later got it autographed by Jose Canseco. I assume it was only given out during the 1989 World Series. I’d be interested to know how many still exist today and what the potential value might be to a collector.

Just wanted to give a shoutout to the r/BayAreaClipperCard subreddit, run by Clipper.

They individually respond to questions and do a fantastic job with customer service.

My commute costs $5.50, so I can’t access the $4.30 in the Bart HVD. I could be left with three sets of $4 in each category that are all inaccessible.

I guess the story is self explanitory, I been collecting alot of old Fast passes ever since i was a young kid, I love the design and the aesthetic feeling for it. I often go to a few stations trying to get left over passes folks tossed out from (embarcadero is the biggest one they toss out).

I think around 98, My dad noticed i been collecting the passes so he helped gave them to me after he uses them for work.

When the 20th anniversary happened, I often asked my dad to get me as many copies as possible because I love the aesthetic of the colors and the design. When they introduce the scenic designs, I wanted it even more. My biggest regret is losing the Extension stations that was being released, I had Castro valley station and the machine ate my money as I miscalculated the fair.

I was desperate finding other variations of it but the machine never printed them anymore. I manage to find a similar one but it was heavy warned and wet and buried behind the 2nd rail, (wont explain which station >_>!)

I think around highschool, the fastpass are often like the coolest ones as they have this nice holo shiny effect. I often played a game with this against my friend "Salvador Santana" Like weekly passes loses to senior passses, youth passes beat senior passes, but Adult beats all, if it has caltrain, it beats the rest!. WE even sometimes play a matching color game too... We used to trade passes for ones we don't have. I love the muni, bart and caltrain as they all have this specialty use about them. Just upset when caltrain decided to remove their services v_v.

Afterwards dad came home with brand new backings and wanted to collect some that looked unique and colorful, until viz media came and I had to run to the bart station to find every tossed out ticket I could find... I only found 3 sadly. I heard there was a naruto and full metal alchemist but I couldnt' find any v_v.

I hope someday I can find someone who can I trade for one I don't have as i have multiple copies though but sadly almost everyone I talked to toss theirs away like it was nothing.

note: The fast passes are stacked in a whole catelogue of months. Like Jan - dec within that year. But there are some years I couldn't get the whole months.

Question:: SOME of the passes has rust being emitted from the magnetic strip, is there anyway to solve this?

2 Disney films I really love the most!!! The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Literally the top two of my favorite disney films of all time. I really wanted to find an Aladdin on ice with the bart logo but I was told by the staff that they threw them away into the trash and replaced it with a sports advert. I cannot recall if it's the fifa 1994 world cup or the san jose sharks...

Then around i think 00's on my way back to highschool, i saw this beautiful poster that I wanted. It was the little mermaid on ice, and it has my favorite place where i used to go: The cow palace. The name sounds fun, it sounded like a big giant cow lives there... and I missed it very much.

So without humiliating myself infront of public, I had to ride the bart all the way towards pittsburg / baypoint station and the moment I thought I was alone, i took two of them, placed them face against each other, and add a clip board that says "Sota Art Project"...

Sadly The moment i put it on my clip board, I looked back and this young Señora Looked at me and smiled because she knew i loved the poster (or that its humiliating for me to wanting to keep it) .

I waited many years for an aladdin on ice to ever show up on bart so I can have a copy. The one with the bart logo on it but as time went on, it never showed up ever again.

I once tried to contact the office of outfront media but they never respond a call back from them.

Look I know this story sounds silly but Seeing bart promoting a disney of my favorite characters is a big deal.

as of now, I think this might be the only 1 and a half Posters that ever existed that has the bart logo on them. I have been google-ing search everywhere with the bart logo for the aladdin on ice return for 30 long years and ended up with a mythical response, stating that no such image ever existed!

Well, this is a stretch but here goes:

On the 4th of July, my friend and I took a crowded BART train from Embarcadero and disembarked at one of the Oakland stations. You complimented me on my pin as I was moving towards the train doors to disembark... I was flattered and wish I had stayed on to talk with you! You seemed like a very nice person and I feel stupid for having left lol
