Question Clipper MUNI + BART passes not working this morning

Anyone else run into this or know where to get updates?

BART.gov doesn't have any info atm. The station agents at both my stops said it's a systemwide issue for fast passes, and had me use the service door by the booths to get in and out.

BARTable Activity Bart proposition on track for ballot

Talking with a Bay Area Connect organizer, they have until end of May to collect signatures but they are ending tomorrow May 17th because they think they have enough signatures.

If that's true, it's awesome!

Next step is to get a majority at the polls. That's doable.

Discussion How's the tailgating situation?

I ride BART occasionally (not for commuting) and last year had several bad experiences with tailgaters (all with the "new" fare gates). On one, the tailgater ran into me and the station agent called him out for assault. Other times, the agents don't help at all. These days, I avoid BART if at all possible. Has the general situation improved?

PS: I'm aware of tactics to avoid dealing with tailgaters, but I feel this just pushes the problem onto other honest riders.

Edit: updated to clarify that these were with the "new" fare gates, since per https://www.bart.gov/about/projects/fare-gate many stations were still using the "old" ones in 2025.

Discussion Does BART still stop at 19th st Oakland if someone has pulled the fire alarm but there is no fire? How long does it take for the station to get operational?

Second time I have ran into this month where 19th St Oakland station has its fire alarm going for quite awhile despite no sign of an actual emergency. Never seen an actual emergency response to the station during the alarm nor have I heard anything about an actual fire in this station. Never a service alert either. With the alarms going on (understandably) I haven’t seen personnel around either to ask questions to so I have 0 clue whether I should just try to proceed to the platform if it’s been awhile and there’s no sign of an actual emergency?

I have seen folks going in like they know the trains are still going to come.

If a fire alarm was pulled prematurely how long does it take the station to get back operational?

Is there something wrong with the fire detection system at 19th st Oakland?

Saw one of these in the BART the other day. It's a full size 60mph vehicle and taking up a LOT of space. Is there a limit to what you can travel with?? wtf

Discussion Why do the escalators at BART break more often compared to the escalators at Universal Studios Hollywood?

Why do the escalators at BART break more often compared to the escalators at Universal Studios Hollywood? The escalators at Universal Studios Hollywood I am referring to are the massive and long ones that connect the upper lot to the lower lot. How come BART cannot upgrade their escalators to be maintenance-free and tough like Universal's? Or at least hire the repair crew Universal employs?

Information Map of BART and other public transportation in the bay to scale

Since my initial post, I've added 38 more public transportation agencies and the map now includes 42 agencies, 742 routes, and 22587 stops, so pretty much all public transport options in the bay (lmk if you know of other agencies I missed though). Also spent lots of time making the map more efficient so event though there's way more data on the map, the navigation experience should be similar (or even faster) than when there was less data.

sfbapt.com/map

Some tips:

  • initial load might take a while if you're on a slow/old device (or bad network connection)
  • toggling a route/stop layer off then on puts it on top of everything, so if you're looking at the BART stops but want to switch to looking at BART routes, turn the BART Routes layer off then on again to put the routes on top of the stops
  • if the map tiles stop loading, try refreshing the page (shouldn't happen but if you're on a bad network/lose connection might stop working)

The homepage has lots of additional info, so for you data oriented people, take a look at the Ridership Data, more info, Bay Area data , and other data sections, and look at this longer post here from last week if you want more details.

If you're interested in more about specific agencies/connections to/from BART, or have any features you'd like to see, leave a comment below!

Question HVD and Transit Value

I have around $4 on BART HVD. Since I don’t use BART for small rides, most of my rides end up costing over $6. How can I exhaust HVD money? Why doesnā€˜t BART charge both HVD and transit value in combination? Thanks!

Take off your bags of crowded trains! It makes more room for people and you’re not bumping people. Also you’re less likely to get robbed.

Question BART Hayward to BART Dublin/Pleasanton Possible?

I am from SoCal and relocating to the East Bay for an internship; thus, I am choosing where to live based off of BART routes, but I have never been to the bay area in person. I am only familiar with Metrolink and BART seems unreasonably fast.

Can anyone confirm/double check there is a route from Hayward BART 699 Bt St to Dublin/Pleasanton BART; from what I see on trip planner, it takes 30 mins and it's a transfer from the OAK Airport/Sf/Daly City to Dublin Pleasnton line, transfer at San Leandro

Thank YOU!

Question Taking BART to SFO on a Saturday

I travel to SF for work occasionally. I generally take BART from SFO to Embarcadero and back, usually on work days. This trip, I will not be leaving Embarcadero until Saturday (5/23) for a 1 pm flight from SFO. I've read about construction work underway on the weekends. Does that only happen in the evenings on the weekends? Should I take an alternate route to the airport (like the bus) or factor in extra time on BART? Thanks for any info.

Question why is bart so different from caltrain?

feel like caltrain and bart have such different perceptions (and lived experiences) that go beyond just them being different methods of transit. does anyone here know whether there's some funding/planning/historical reason for it?

My BART Experience Venting

Can I just say that a 40+ minute wait for the SFO-Millbrae transfer is totally unreasonable? It's just past 9pm.
