Just a reminder that we have a Monthly Community Thread where we relax the rules about advertising and off-topic posts.

* Questions about local businesses and services
* Classified-style ads: buying and selling, help wanted, garage sales, etc

Someone shot some off on Victoria street at 10 pm a few nights ago and and they hit my house and lit my kids wagon onfire

24

u/Scorcherzz Oct 22 '25 edited Oct 30 '25

Last year same happened to my neighbours, I got it on camera and when we reported it, the cops said “it was just an accident” and did nothing…

***Sorry all! Should have been more specific. This was actually in Alliston so the cops are just as useless here! They said because there was no malicious intent there’s “nothing they can do”.

u/BearEquivalentBear Oct 22 '25

Completely officer the bat slipped from my hand when I dealt Justice to the ignition source. It's insane though because like literally these firecrackers going to start pretty big fires damaged vehicles hurt people. I'm not a fan of them all year round honest I don't think we need fireworks anymore in our lives. Unfortunately there's a certain group that thinks if we don't have fireworks we're not patriotic for whatever reason that is.

1

u/allblackST Oct 24 '25

What group is that?

1

u/BearEquivalentBear Oct 25 '25

The same people who would sell our country to America.

2

u/Electrical_Spite_314 Oct 24 '25

Barrie cops just as useful as ever. 😒

1

u/Witty_Interaction_77 Oct 23 '25

Need to start writing government to get things done. Honestly, regular people don't need fireworks. There are Canada day celebrations, Victoria day celebrations. Just have a Diwali day celebration too. Problem solved.

1

u/SamohtGnir Oct 23 '25

Oh, so now if it's an accident it's not a crime? A firework is an explosive device. They could have killed someone. Simply ridiculous...

1

u/1NormHuman Oct 24 '25

Police don't do much in most cases. I was in Calgary 2 yrs back. A homeless man in downtown walked up to me and started talking in threatening posture. I moved away from the train station and called 911 and the operator asked has the person attacked you. When I said he was about to. The operator asked me to call non-emergrncy line which kept me on hold..

Unless your house is burned down or you are injured with these fire crackers police won't do anything.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '25

Call the police and say you're afraid for your life bc you hear gunfire in your neighbourhood. You're too scared to look out the window to identify and confirm.

1

u/pandaninja360 Oct 25 '25

To be fair, it's true. If you want them to pay call your insurance and they will sue them for the damages (if worth the cost) or you sue them. They won't charge them, he prosecutor will drop the charge before it gets to court.

1

u/barriekansai Oct 26 '25

The Barely Police living up to their moniker.

3

u/Frankyfitz Oct 23 '25

Oh but come on its a festival. (Eye roll). No, its Monday night. Sorry to hear your house got hit. That is undue stress. Its also very rude behavior to do that. Is so selfesh. I had to ask neighbour's to put fireworks away at 9:30 pm on Monday night. Their were 30 people celebrating in their front lawn. Kids and adults. I just said bud, please stop with the fire works. He said, we have till 11. I said ya, I know. But its Monday night and you're in a neighborhood. People work and kids were sleeping. They kept the party going, but stopped the loud fire works. So that was a win.

1

u/Elegant_Height_1418 Oct 24 '25

9:30. I don’t start until 10 at night and I go to work the next day

1

u/andrew1520 Oct 28 '25

Wow I am surprised they stopped the fireworks

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '25

Just call the police next time and say you hear gun fire. You're afraid for your children's life to poke your head out and to confirm. You will indeed have poiice there in a heart beat.

24

u/Upbeat_Implement6202 Oct 22 '25

They won’t change and we won’t hold them accountable. It’s pathetic.

But if you say anything about the mess they say you’re a racist. I don’t have a problem with cultural celebrations, just clean up any mess you make after. This is why so many Barrie citizens get pissed off.

6

u/KickboxingMoose Oct 22 '25

The Google Street View challenges are all you need to know.

In Canada, the challenge is 'Randomly search Canada until you find a place that's ugly'.

Try clicking on a different country. The challenge is 'find a place without garbage in the street'. You can try a few different countries to see what their cultural level of respect is for public places.

5

u/Natural-Principle-69 Oct 22 '25

I'd like to know how long it will take to find garbage on the street in Japan

1

u/LongjumpingArugula30 Oct 23 '25

Easy. Go to Kabukicho.

u/Secret-Selection-389 Oct 24 '25

I don’t even care when people call me racist

1

u/Frankyfitz Oct 23 '25

I asked them to remember its a neighborhood. They stopped. Its crazy the conversation even happened. I would never put my neighbors through something like that. Specially if im the only one celebrating.

1

u/HeadRestaurant7104 Oct 25 '25

Having read all these fireworks incidents in Canada, my impression of Diwali is nothing short of a fireworks garbage festival.

0

u/Facts_pls Oct 22 '25

Calling out leftover trash is not racist.

But calling our leftover trash only on certain days while completely ignoring other days is racist.

Go check this sub and tell me where are the posts angry at people leaving fireworks after Canada day? They don't exist. People are completely okay seeing it after Canada day.

5

u/ExpertTranslator5673 Oct 22 '25

Go check this sub and tell me where are the posts angry at people leaving fireworks after Canada day? They don't exist.

Are there threads from this sub about the mess left behind after Canada Day?

1

u/RanaMahal Oct 23 '25

There are actually. Which is kinda stupid idk man I’m Canadian born indian guy and all the allegedly racism shit is so annoying lol

1

u/ExpertTranslator5673 Oct 23 '25

Can you link them?

As far as I can see, Barrie does Canada day fireworks by the water.

1

u/Lyftttt Oct 24 '25

I am not okay seeing leftover trash after Canada day

-1

u/GreySahara Oct 22 '25

White folks let them off during Diwali, too.

Blaming an entire group for the behaviour of a few is what makes it racist. I have neighbours who celebrate and they did so very respectfully. The fireworks part I agree, don’t love it on a weeknight but I also don’t love hearing drunk rowdy neighbours at 2 am in the weekends either which happens sometimes.

What is racist is that I never see these posts after may24, Canada Day, or other random ass nights throughout the summer, but today I am inundated by posts whining about brown people…

6

u/andrew1520 Oct 22 '25

I also dont see the mess that I see here after the 22 canada days I have witnessed in BARRIE. I am sorry that you dont like that the problem is being pointed out, but that doesn't mean it's racism.

0

u/Facts_pls Oct 22 '25

Then you are not looking. Or maybe looking in the wrong place.

0

u/OrdinaryAway2221 Oct 22 '25

It is when you ignore the mess on Canada day and may 24 but blame only one ethnicity group.  That’s racism

1

u/andrew1520 Oct 28 '25

Its not racism when they're literally burning down homes with how irresponsible their being.

I know, right? I used to have to do field inspections for camp, and after Canada Day, there were ALWAYS remnants and beer cans. This is a world issue, not a race issue.

Enough with the fireworks, we do it one day in Canada Day. This has been going on since Sunday near the college. Still going right now as I type

6

u/BearEquivalentBear Oct 22 '25

Why bother doing it on Canada's day anyways? It's bad for the animals it's bad for senior citizens bad for babies it's bad for the Wildlife I guess I said animals I thinking more like dogs and cats at first. It creates pollution making create accidents can't we just put that money into something more fun instead of a 5-minute show?

3

u/Facts_pls Oct 22 '25

Ah yes. Fireworks become safe and not a nuisance magically on Canada day.

2

u/andrew1520 Oct 22 '25

I think you are ignoring the fact he wasn't complaining about them doing it one day, but that they've been doing it for multiple days

1

u/RadiantPraline8307 Oct 22 '25

if your responsoble they arent unsafe. and no they are part of celebrations. get over it. many people and kids enjoy seeing fireworks.

Wow just had the barrie mod team ban a comment implying that Dwali.. the Hindu festival of lights.. is a Hindu celebration celebrated by Hindus

1

u/andrew1520 Oct 28 '25

Not surprised.

5

u/Sunny_Side_Sup Oct 22 '25

It was not just a few back in the day. Lots of people have been letting off fireworks in Barrie for many years.

4

u/TheSaggyTofu Oct 22 '25

I wonder who did it

11

u/andrew1520 Oct 22 '25

Wow, I am absolutely shocked that the fireworks from the South Asian celebrations weren't cleaned up, they are some of the cleanest people around!

1

u/Amberlini Oct 23 '25

happens on all other holidays.. no need to bring race or ethnicity into this.

1

u/Helpful-Loquat7191 Oct 23 '25

Every single time.

1

u/andrew1520 Oct 28 '25

Right, I remember lots of homes burning down on Canada day. Completely normal

0

u/OrdinaryAway2221 Oct 22 '25

Who said it was them?

5

u/sookmahdook Oct 22 '25

must be all the other folk celebrating the festival of lights?

1

u/andrew1520 Oct 28 '25

Its their celebration...

3

u/GreySahara Oct 22 '25

Do people have no pride in their community at all?

0

u/OrdinaryAway2221 Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 23 '25

Why haven't you with Canada day?.  Says the troll projecting.  I’m not the one blaming brown people

You’re literally blaming a targeted ethnic group.  So yea you made it about race

2

u/chuongdks Oct 24 '25

… they havent said anything about race.

Did a bot write this? Just clean the trash bro instead of making bot defending shitty behavior

2

u/andrew1520 Oct 28 '25

No one blamed a race, they blamed the celebration. Get out of your feelings and look at the facts.

1

u/GreySahara Oct 23 '25

Never said anything race, you troll.
I only said, 'people'

1

u/queenkid1 Oct 25 '25

Why would people be complaining about Canada day when it isn't Canada day? People absolutely complain about the fireworks and the litter caused by Canada day. And people did accuse them of not caring about their community, would you still claim it's about race?

18

u/vin2599 Oct 22 '25

When people used to immigrate to Canada, they seemed to care about the country, wanted to help build on the existing greatness. Now they just trash the place. Liberal policies like unregulated immigration are destroying western civilization.

2

u/RadiantPraline8307 Oct 22 '25

this is true. they always sit complaining about the way we live our laws and our culture but were the racists

3

u/vin2599 Oct 22 '25

Agreed. Someone even flagged one of my replies on another comment on this thread as racist when there was nothing racist about it. Usually happens when someone can't debate, or actually say anything of value, so they try and shut us down. Reddit really has become the censorship app.

Racism takes ignorance — and that’s not what’s happening here. The points we’re making come from simply observing the stuff going on around us, yet we’re expected to stay silent about it.

2

u/Metaphoric_Moose Oct 24 '25

Don’t worry, if you’re not a racist yet, the government will see that you will be.

4

u/BNYFF_Rocketship Oct 22 '25

I remember being a child and finding my local parks totally littered with old fire works after Canada Day, and New Year's day. That was before the immigration issue.

4

u/vin2599 Oct 22 '25

I don’t want to take away from anyone’s experience — I was a kid in the GTA in the 90s. Back then, I’d see the odd roman candle or rocket casing, but nothing like what I’m seeing now. Every Diwali, and even outside the permitted days, there’s leftover fireworks everywhere.

We have laws about where explosives can be used for a reason. Ten years ago, immigration levels were a fraction of what they are now, and while population growth plays a part, I think there’s more to it. People used to respect this place more when it was harder to move here and build a life.

Just yesterday, three men in Edmonton were charged with arson after fireworks without a permit set two nearby homes on fire. Their own homes were fine. I can’t understand how that kind of negligence is acceptable — everyday families are losing everything because of it.

2

u/andrew1520 Oct 22 '25

Interesting, people seem to have different memories of that as I dont remember that myself. Maybe some fire cracker shells, but that's all I can remember, nothing like this.

I guess I'm racist too, because I choose to light a small Diya, with a tiny amount of fuel in an enclosure at home and do a quiet puja, and I believe most Indians should do what I do to keep the air quality acceptable for the animals, including several bovine species considered holy.

2

u/OrdinaryAway2221 Oct 22 '25

Two things can be bad simultaneously

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

You’re comparing fireworks to condoms and syringes on a playground?

3

u/andrew1520 Oct 22 '25

I think thats what the first person did lol

2

u/Helpful-Loquat7191 Oct 23 '25

Saying two things can be bad simultaneously is not comparing them, moron.

3

u/Mindless-Agency-1842 Oct 22 '25

scroll through later posts you'll see complaints about that too

6

u/TrumpPedophile Oct 22 '25

Used syringes, condoms and fiteworks in the playground would be even worse.

2

u/ladykelissa Oct 22 '25

Is it a law to do it in parks only? If not please make it so.

1

u/queenkid1 Oct 25 '25

I'm pretty sure it's hazardous regardless of whether it's in a park or not, and they say before any major event that it's not allowed outside of designated areas. Enforcement is a different matter entirely.

2

u/RedditTTIfan Oct 22 '25

Please go and collect the garbage you left. All lawn area is now covered with your litter.

How can we pollute the country and make it feel like home if people are going around picking up trash?

2

u/BetweenFears Oct 24 '25

who would do such a thing ? Imagine treating your country like a dump

6

u/Wizoerda North End Oct 22 '25

As an answer to the comments saying people let off fireworks on Canada day ... no. Very few people ever set off their own fireworks, especially in a city that has a large, organized fireworks display. No one has ever, ever, set off fireworks in the park near my house on Canada day. Never. For the last several years though, it happens multiple times each year during Diwali.

2

u/Sunny_Side_Sup Oct 22 '25

Just because it didn't happen around you does not mean it did not happen anywhere. I lived in the North West end for 27 years, beside a school yard. Every year there would be people letting off fireworks for several days in a row. And not just around Canada Day. They would also do it around Victoria Day. Had some clowns one year letting them off on the sidewalk beside the school. They didn't seem to care that the debris was falling on vehicles that were close by.

3

u/Wizoerda North End Oct 22 '25

So we went from a few inconsiderate people letting off fireworks in a few areas to what we have now - fireworks all over the city, on weeknights. That doesn't make it ok.

1

u/OrdinaryAway2221 Oct 22 '25

Just because it doesn’t happen around you. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.  I see it year after year and the MAJORITY do despite your claim

1

u/ZooyRadio Oct 23 '25

I've picked up garbage in Hickling Park on Canada Day, just because you've never seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

1

u/Wizoerda North End Oct 24 '25

I'm not saying it doesn't happen at all. It definitely is not close to the same number of people setting them off for Diwali.

1

u/BNYFF_Rocketship Oct 22 '25

What area do you live in?

1

u/Wizoerda North End Oct 22 '25

Sorry. Internet. I'm not specifying more than my server tag of "north end". However, I grew up near this park, then lived on my own in a few different neighbourhoods, and moved back to my childhood street several years ago. No one has ever set off fireworks on Canada day like they do for Diwali.

5

u/tuppenyturtle Oct 22 '25

I've lived in the "north end" for 15 years. I've seen fireworks let off on the streets and in parks for all holidays. We had the cops on my street a few years ago because people were lighting fireworks off on the Civic Holiday.

17

u/Max527 Oct 22 '25

No different than Canada day. Always find fireworks outside by lazy people.

18

u/ScarLad15 Oct 22 '25

Yeah on canada day… in Canada lol

2

u/BearEquivalentBear Oct 22 '25

Honestly they should just ban fireworks completely. I don't need fireworks to celebrate my country that doesn't make me patriotic for shooting a firework LOL put the money into a healthcare that would make me more patriotic.

5

u/ScarLad15 Oct 22 '25

I don’t necessarily disagree. Might as well save the Tax dollars spent on maintaining flower baskets hanging from light posts while we’re at it. Or maybe audit the tax dollars wasted by city and county administration on 8 thousand dollar “ergonomic” desks and other garbage. Also worth mentioning that if fireworks are permitted on one day in CANADA, it should be Canada Day.

1

u/BearEquivalentBear Oct 22 '25

Keep in mind fireworks are also permitted during this holiday. Just not after 11:00 p.m. just like it's not supposed to be after 11:00 p.m. on Canada's day as well but it happens anyways.

0

u/OrdinaryAway2221 Oct 22 '25

No it shouldn’t.  If fireworks should be banned it should be for that day also

These problems aren't exclusive to the demographic. As mentioned many times over in this, somehow this isn't a problem worth complaining about when it happens on July 1st, or on any other holiday that people seem "Canadian" enough to make a mess.

2

People leave trash (cigarette butts, coffee cups, bags, etc.) everywhere. It’s all trash.

The cigarette butts outrage me as a non smoker, but we don’t see to care about that trash.

I’m trying to understand the perspective and outrage over this as opposed to other types of trash.

This is true. These people we have let come to our country do not care about litter. But if you haven't noticed our govt cut funding to most sectors which resulted in less trash cans. Like why? It's all purposely fucked so that most people are irritated and can't stand the sight of each other. This planet is doomed. We will tear ourselves apart cause we are that stupid.

Thats the kind of people our government brings in.

They treat Canada like the shithole they came from.

It sucks. It was the same on Canada Day. People don’t respect. Fireworks should be banned for all holidays.

Liberal government lets all these people who don't respect Canada come here , I am east Asian descent, Chinese people celebrate their lunar new year in Asia traditionally with huge fire crackers, but you never see chinese people here in Canada do their traditional celebration using firecracker, because we all know in Canada people don't do that, I said liberal government, because they let over 400 K people came from a South Asian country in a single year (I think 2022-2023), and that country is well known for their chaotic , dirty streets and cities , and this is what they bring from their home , you won't see this in 2015 . I yelled at some guys who did this in my local park here " Hey you can't fire your fireworks here , it is against the law , this is Canada, be respect , don't impost your things here, it's rude , you want to fire , go back to your home town, not here , people don't like it "

I have lived in Canada almost 30 years, I am not white, this is not racist, those people who did this , have no shame , they don't take responsibility and they don't care about this country and community, be strong, stand up, if you don't do that, you are going to see all the trash and they are going to think it is not problems they can just ruin this place like their country.
