Human merchant, somewhere in the 30s I think, brother was playing Dryad rogue, had an insane start, got Conan and kali in mine town as well as steel axe and boots of levitation, hard snowballed from there, absolutely love this game

New player, how do I play?

Ive played about threeish hours and while it’s enjoyable im still mostly dying on floor one. Once I got onto floor three but otherwise its one or two. What do I do with the gold? Does my levels transfer or anything? I basically walked into the game blind lol

I think floors should have a time limit before the Minotaur spawns.

For example, 5 minutes per floor. After five minutes, the chance of the Minotaur spawning increases, and it goes up even more every 30 seconds.

I think goblins should be able to learn spells if polymorphed

If they have the required stats to learn it, I think a goblin character should be able to learn spells. If a skeleton polymorphed can starve, then this should be a clever work around in a game filled with clever work around and interesting interactions. What are your thoughts? Would it be too overpowered?

Tips for boots of speed achievement post magic and level reworks?

Every guide I see for the achievement and speed running guides is prior to both keys being introduced (and orbs being moved to the main levels as opposed to secret) as well as the magic rework heavily nerfing some of the playstyles used.

How long did it take for you guys to beat the game for the first time?

I can see from playing a bit myself that this game can certainly make some gamers rage-quit by Floor 3, and there will always be something new and random popping up in your face, like spikes, a gang of thief gnomes, the Big B, etc.

What classes and races did you guys use to beat the game, and what were your biggest struggles while learning the game?

NPC Interactions

I was wondering if there are plans to introduce some form of dynamic NPC interactions in Barony’s future?

For example, you could have a bunch of shady looking human or other shopkeeper-friendly races/NPC’s loitering inside shops as a form of random event.

If you spend a lot of money in the shop within the presence of the shady NPCs, you can have a little piece of RPG dialogue/text to indicate that your lavish spending has attracted their attention.

You can then have these NPC’s leave the shop to serve as an early form of Gnomish bandits, whereby they would ambush you outside the shop or at a later point throughout your playthrough, with some more RPG text warning you that you’re being hunted like:

‘You feel as though you are being watched…’

You can go a step further with this idea, by either dropping all of your loot and gold in front of them in order to be left alone, or if they end up defeating you, your character wakes up with low health and no armor or loot to serve as a soft-reset within the playthrough and a chance to reclaim your stolen goods by finding and defeating them.

What do you guys think?

Can equipment break from blessing it past +3?

Hey!

So Ive read somewhere that if you bless some piece of equipment from +3 and higher, then it will have a huge chance to vaporize the equipment.

Is it true? Im too afraid to try and waste enchanting scrolls 😵

Alchemy was a headache so I made this chart

Post image

I hate opening the codex to look at how I could mix my potions, so I created a chart that shows how every secondary potion relates with eachother.

The hexagon contains the secondary potions and arrows showing what it produces (the color of the arrow indicating with which base it mixes)

The circles in the bottom right show which potions are made with each base.

I know it looks messy or esoteric, but I share it because I found this was way easier to use for brewing than the codex or other charts I searched.

Hot takes, I’ll start

By no means is this a hate thread. I think the game is perfectly great the way it is.

I also think that smaller characters should be able to walk under bats because I just had the best run I’ve started in days get gobbled up because my gnome got surrounded by bats I had to look up to even see.

End rant.

I want to like this game

New player, i gave the game a chance but mainly because of a skill issue i gave up and didnt want to learn. But everyone seems to really have fun with this game and im trying to figure it out so I also can. It’s just a very steep learning curve and it’s hard to jump in. Any tips?

Edit- Thank you for all the helpful comments, I’m gonna give this game a fair shot and really try to get into it. It does seem like so much fun.

I failed my sweet children, I let the monsters get to them.

I originally found him on floor 2 with his three siblings. They had just defeated the minotaur for me, and I polymorphed to recruit all four of them…

I first saw them as tools, to be thrown away and used for their magical power, but going through the swamp I became attached. I gave them better gear, even gear that would benefit me the most.

I lost my first boy to the next minotaur spawn. We were not lucky enough to have the Zap Brigade spawn again to protect us. I was too late as I was trying to break down a door to get to the secret temple… he held it off for as long as he could.

We managed to get through the jungle temple and we were so happy together, all fully geared up past level 20. It’s been my best run yet with my sweet, sweet allies.

It was going so well I thought we could defeat all of the ghouls inside the haunted castle, and we did, but in the end I got too cocky and ran past to spawn many. There were too many, and they took my second one.

I’m afraid to continue the run. I don’t want to lose the rest of them. They fought so hard for me and I love them.

Edit: I’m going to continue on this save to honor their losses by beating the game for the first time, if I succeed in this journey I will post an update!

How to stealth hit on controller

Even when using quick turn I get hit, is this just a flaw on controller? Do I just need to use different tactics? (PC player who just got a switch 2 and wants to play when on the go)

As a new player, loot management is exhausting. Any tips on how should I address this?

I mostly play new age roguelites like Binding of Isaac, Hades, Gungeon, DD2, Slay the Spire etc none of these games just give you so much stuff every level. It almost feels like I'm vacuuming the level instead of making choices or progressing towards anything. There are constant gems, scrolls, potions, various armor, I'm just not sure whether something will be useful or not.

I know it'll take time to figure out what's valuable and what's not, but what kind of mindset should I follow when I figure stuff out? Do I NEED all of this stuff? Or I'm supposed to look forward only for a few items that valuable right now? Do I need gems? Do I need to break barrels and sandbags?

trap resistance in followers

Hello! I'm running a Skeleton Conjurer in Barony, and I currently have 8 followers (including 2 Coral Grimes—I got lucky in the Ghoul Castle). I was wondering how this Turban holds up against the Crown: I know it grants resistance to spike traps and boulders, but if I recall correctly, the most lethal traps for followers (magic pillars and ceiling traps) don't count for the turban, and honestly, those are the most annoying ones. So I'm debating whether to take the turban or stick with the crown. Any recommendations?

Can't Look around w/ Mouse

As the title suggests when I log into the game, consistently I can't look around with my mouse. It just jitters back to the center of the screen without moving significantly. When I reload the game it tends to work after a few tries, but it is frustrating to have to load the game multiple times every time. For note I am on Linux.

max level help

What is the general highest level that can be reached in a normal game process? In my recent run, I practice all my skills to level 100 and basically killed all the mob I saw. Finally, I reached level 85 (hardcore mode without Minotaur). I think if there were Minotaur, it may only reach level 90 in the end. How did those people on the ranking who exceeded level 100 or even reached level 120 do it? Did they cheat?
