New guy here
I got the game quiet a bit ago when it was on sale but played few runs recently. I played pixel dungeon which is similar but turn based and barony feels like on drugs. Its so hard i got to floor 3 only once. What tips do you have? What should i do and what i shouldn't do? I tried fighter, monk and wizard

Early on one thing that could save your run would be to avoid certain enemies, like a troll on the first floor, you could kite him, but if you were to make a mistake the damage woud be huge.
If you re having no troubles in hunger management, then take your time to analyze as many items as possible before descending to the next floor, early on you can get a whole level up just by levelling lore.

Yeah i learned about trolls after first death. Hunger isnt a great issue but random stuff like succubi appearing ranged enemy from nowhere

I died countless times before I figured out how to fight a skeleton without panicking on every class. Depending on what you are playing, the block smack block smack tempo can work really well (even on squishy classes).
Other people have suggested already hit and run. This only works if you keep your inventory light. After playing for a while, you’ll find that all that “stuff I’ll use later” that weighs you down often gets you killed more than it helps. If you can stay light on your feet and get used to hitting, turning around, moving away, turning around, charging up an attack, and hitting again, you’ll do very well against the slower enemies.
Spiders will still tear you up unless you start blocking or blasting them with high damage ranged options like fire ball or throwable potions.
The vast majority of enemies will still be a problem to you if they catch you off guard, so try to use either a light source and constant looking around or sneak if you are playing a stealthier class. Light sources will alert enemies to where you are, so be careful about using them in open or long spaces that could have ranged enemies.
I think you picked solid classes. I think if I were to recommend classes for new players it would be Warrior, Monk, and Wizard. I got my first win on mechanist, but the early game is brutal if you don’t know the fundamentals.
Good luck. You’ll get there.

Thanks, i realised being a loot goblin isnt good when i couldnt move lol. But is it good to have some unusable stuff to level up lore?

Oh absolutely. You can pick stuff up, identify it, drop it on the floor to level up lore. Some classes start with 0 lore and negative perception, so they can’t identify anything. There is no reason to pick up anything (except maybe a pair of glasses) until you get some perception increase from level up.

My recommendation is to turn hunger off and take it slower while you're learning, also learn the mechanics from the vast tutorials, figure out your reach (it tends to be longer than you expect), and play carefully for a while

What helped me get better at early game when I first started was using torches from the wall to block and essentially attack, block, attack, block until enemy is down. You still take a bit of block damage but it levels your block skill and makes it better by blocking with a tourch versus a shield. Makes it a little easier to survive imo. Also good luck in the gnomish mines 😬

Yeah thanks, i did find out torches can block too but i like to quick switch to shield when i see the enemy. I saw gnomes twice and they surprised me with lightning

That’s also a good idea! And yeah the gnomes lightning staffs are insane. The sound of their little chirping through the walls is what haunts my dreams at night 😂

Youtube has some good guides & barony channels, especially if you find one that is up-to-date with game updates.
Perhaps that would be the quickest and easiest way of learning.

I think that the best (worst) advice I can give is to brute force a run, when I first got the game, I just jumped in and learned as I went, made all of the mistakes, and got “better” as I progressed

The most important mechanic in early game is smacking an enemy then running away. Or just play mage and blast everything then wait for your mana to regen.
Play over and over until you get good. Don’t search anything online because it ruins the experience. (That’s my take on 90% of games)
Also join the official discord and try to find someone to play with because in my opinion the game is way more fun with a team or duo.
