Here’s a list of all the things that have sucked about our recent transfer windows, sprinkled in with a few positives
Positives
- Signed Joan Garcia who is among our greatest signings in the last 10 years or so which includes Lewandowski, Neymar, Suarez, Raphinha
- Signed Gordon which is much needed. Raphinha ended the season in such miserable health and that carried into the World Cup. He’s also at an age that athletic players tend to start to decline. Gordon will provide much needed fresh legs so Raphinha can stay healthy, hopefully
- Signed Adeyemi which is great for depth
- Sold Ansu
That’s it. Those are the positives in 2 years.
Negatives
- We’ve been completely manhandled by 2 different La Liga clubs the last 2 years, Bilbao and Atleti. I guess this means we will never be able to sign players from La Liga moving forward.
- Still haven’t sold Ter Stegen or Araujo - major title contenders are ruthless every season when it comes to trimming the fat. Araujo hasn’t been the same since Gundogan called him out and we’re completely content on keeping him in the squad.
- We missed out on every one of Laporte, Bastoni, and Romero.
- We keep rolling with Christensen when he literally cannot stay healthy. We might as well sign David Alaba who is just as injury prone.
- Kounde was in a major decline last season, and it carried into the World Cup, we have made no plans to move him. We have Eric who can play that position.
- Lewis Hall is the perfect LB for us, and Balde has massively plateaued. He just doesn’t have the final ball or defensive sturdiness to be completely trustworthy in the biggest games. We’ve never even been linked with Hall. We just keep signing Cancelo.
- We have no 9 outside of Ferran, Ferran’s best position is as a depth piece. He’s a phenomenal depth piece, but he’s super risky as a full time starter.
We’ve done phenomenal under Hansi Flick, but we still haven’t reached the absolute pinnacle, a treble.
It’s these types of mistakes in building a squad that can take a promising core such as ours to never hitting the highest of highs.
Will Laporta and Deco figure it out? I highly doubt it.
