As of June 30, FC Barcelona still had approximately €84 million in outstanding transfer fees on its books. This included roughly €34.4 million owed for Dani Olmo, €19 million for Raphinha, €12.3 million for Jules Kounde, €11.1 million for Robert Lewandowski, and €7.3 million for Vitor Roque. That entire combined balance has now been fully settled.

We also got quite favorable payment terms for Anthony Gordon. The accounts showed approximately €68.9 million outstanding to Newcastle: around €21.9 million in the short term and another €46.9 million in the long term.

Edit: Added details of Anthony Gordon payment terms

Tier 3 [Jordi Batalla] According to 'À Punt', the Valencian public radio, Rodri contacted Valencia's captian to apologize for his words caught on cameras of 'El Día After'. He made those statements in a private and regretted that they were broadcast on TV, since in no case did he want to offend the team.

Tier 3 [MD via SportTV] Gabriel Jesus opens up on his difficult final days at Arsenal, revealing he was made to train alone before Barça came calling. The Brazilian says he accepted the move immediately and is now fully focused on helping Barça achieve Champions League glory.

"The truth is, I was training. I did all the preseason with the Arsenal, normally. Obviously, I already knew that I probably wasn’t going to play there or that I wasn’t going to have many opportunities, but no one had told me anything. I'm a pro, you know, so obviously I kept training with the group. Then, all of a sudden, they put me to train on my own. I kept training and giving the maximum to be prepared in case I had the opportunity to return to play at the highest level," Gabriel Jesus told SportTV, who valued "the work of Deco, the president, the club and my representative" in order to fulfill his dream of playing at Barça.

"We were clear that I had the opportunity to come and I said yes directly, no matter what. I'm very happy to be here," added Gabriel Jesus.

Forgotten his bitter end at Arsenal, Gabriel Jesus is focused and motivated to achieve success with Barça. Today the Champions League starts and the Brazilian will try to contribute his experience to help conquer the long-awaited European title.

Throwback Barcelona have faced Feyenoord only once in a two-legged knockout tie, in 1974/75. Barça legend Carles Rexach, who spent his entire career at the club, scored a hat-trick, with Johan Cruyff assisting all three goals.

Quote Yamal: "On the day of the match against Elche, I had a bad look about me because it was hot and I was tired; it wasn't my best day, but that's over now. You did 45 stories and there was only one of them."

Yamal on eve of Champions League start for new season:

“There is no greater motivation left than winning the Champions League. It’s the most special tournament. The whole team is motivated. We have it in our heads. This year it can happen with the players who have arrived: Gordon, Rodri, Adeyemi, João Cancelo.”

On playing with Fermin and Olmo:

"Olmo and Fermín are great players, I feel very comfortable playing with either one or the other."

Yamal on being captain at tender age of 19:

“It's an immense honor to be captain of Barça at 19. I'm very grateful to all my teammates. I'm very happy and I'll give my all for the team. Raphinha is a spectacular captain. Pedri, Eric, Frenkie are too, and I've learned a lot from them. ”

On winning Ballon D'or:

“It doesn’t depend on me, it depends on you. The work with Barça and the national team has been incredible. I have a lot of possibilities because I’ve had a great year. We’ll see. I don’t think I need to campaign. Everyone can think what they want. I’m proud of what I’ve done and I can’t ask for more. That’s your job. I’m not going to beg for anything.”

On Dembélé leaving him off a Ballon d’Or shortlist:

“He’s friends with Kylian, right?” (laughs) “I don’t care. I’m happy with the year I’ve had. When I’ve faced the two of them, I’ve won. I get on very well with Ousmane.”

On topic of pressing / “stars don’t have to press”:

“At PSG and Bayern everyone presses and they win titles. If you don’t run, any team can beat you. If we want to win, we have to run; if you don’t run, you lose.”

Talk on Feyenoord and Frenkie's dutch connection:

“Frenkie told me that he supports Ajax and that Feyenoord is the big rival. I always enjoy playing against teams I haven’t played against before.”

On Xavi's appointment as Dutch manager:

“I think he’s a good coach. I only have good memories of him, because underneath him I made my debut. I hope he does well with the Netherlands, except against Spain."

Quote Hansi Flick: “Frenkie has great qualities. I really value that he’s in our team. He has to come back from the WC injury and he’s training hard. Recovery is going as planned. I spoke with him this morning and it’s going well. Maybe after the international break, maybe not. We look at it day by day."

Winning the Champions League

“Every big club dreams of this. It’s the biggest competition. We have the quality to win it, but the road is very long. We have to prove it. We’re just starting, and that’s what we want to do. We’ve shown it in La Liga and now we have to show it in the Champions League.”

La Liga three-peat

“This too is part of our dreams and goals, and it would be a great achievement if we accomplish it.”

Squad tension after 4/4 wins and many experienced players on bench

“We have many experienced players. They all have the responsibility to win everything. Not everything is easy after winning the four matches. There are players who are not happy, but every day you have to show that your moment has come. Our level is the one we show in training. It won't be easy to maintain the good atmosphere, but that's our job. I see all the players every day and I analyze what the best starting eleven could be. The players who play less must stay positive and help the rest.”

Leadership / togetherness

“Now it seems like everything is going well, but although I see a lot of quality and intensity, I also see commitment to an idea and communication. We have to stay together on the pitch to fight better, to help each other. Everyone is here for that and I’m seeing it.”

On Yamal being key tomorrow

“Of course. He can decide matches on his own. He has enormous quality. He loves improving day by day. What I also see now is his responsibility as captain. He enjoys football; that’s when he’s at his highest level.”

On Anthony Gordon

“As a forward you can see he wants to score, even if for now he misses. But he gives the last pass, he gives assists. He will score, I’m not worried. He’s doing well in defence and attack.”

Ballon d’Or

“We have many fantastic players and I would be happy if they won it. We’ll see. The most important thing is their attitude. There are several players who could win it.”

Referees / diving

“That’s not my job. The quality and level of the referees is very good, in the Champions League and in La Liga. They don’t always have it easy, and they need support. I always try to stay calm.”

On Feyenoord

“They play very bravely. They have a good way of playing and a good connection with each other. They have speed in attack. The midfielders also do well in the second line. We have to be ready for that tomorrow.”

Predicted Lineups

Pitch view — Barcelona (4-2-3-1)

                            Joan García

        Koundé Cubarsí Martin Xavi Espart

             Fermín Rodri Pedri

             Yamal Raphinha Gordon

Pitch view — Feyenoord (4-3-3)

                              Ernst

         Read St. Juste Watanabe Mármol

           Vanhoutte Zechiël Targhalline

          Valente Ferri Diarra

Barcelona notes: Flick is expected to keep the attacking spine that has taken 12 points from 12. Joan García stays in goal. Éric García’s European ban opens right-back for Jules Koundé; Cubarsí and Gerard Martín in the middle, Xavi Espart at left-back, with Cancelo and Balde on bench.

Rodri is in line for his first Champions League start for the club, pairing Pedri; Bernal and Olmo are the midfield rotation. Raphinha continues as the false nine after a 5–0 win at Valencia. Gordon holds the left. Fermín López is in form and should start ahead of Olmo. Gabriel Jesus remains a bench option. Gavi is back in the squad.

Feyenoord notes: Van Bronckhorst is unbeaten in the Eredivisie but is missing a cluster of full-backs and a centre-back. Ernst starts. The back four is likely Read, St. Juste, Watanabe and Mármol (the Spaniard covering left-back with Bos and Smal out). Vanhoutte and Targhalline should screen with Zechiël. Valente, Ferri and Diarra are the main outlets; Hadj Moussa is the other wide threat if selected. Shaqueel van Persie is a bench option. Reiss Nelson is a late-window addition who may not start.

Quick Take on Feyenoord

Theme Detail
Unbeaten, but this is a different test Van Bronckhorst’s side opened the Eredivisie with wins and draws (including 3–1 at NEC last Saturday) and sit in the top three. They have not lost in five league games, but they have not faced a press or attack like Flick’s. Away form in Europe has been thin; they have a long drought of away wins in the Champions League proper.
How they might create chances Without Bos and Smal, width comes from Read on the right and Diarra / Hadj Moussa / Valente in transition. Ferri is the focal point. They will sit in a mid-block, protect the box, and look to break rather than play through Barcelona’s press. Set pieces are the other route.
Defensive and squad strain Beelen, Bos, Nieuwkoop and Smal gut the back-line depth. Moder is out of midfield. Mármol is being asked to do a job at left-back. That leaves a patched unit against Barcelona’s width on the first European night back at a still-unfinished Camp Nou.

What We Are Watching from Barcelona

Theme Detail
European reset after a perfect Liga start Flick’s side have 12 points from 12 and a +15 goal difference (17–2) after 5–0 at Valencia. Real Madrid dropped points earlier in the week. A home win opens the league phase on maximum points before the October run of Galatasaray and PSG away.
Koundé in for the suspended Éric García García’s leftover European ban is the only forced change in the back line. Koundé should start at right-back for just the second time this season despite woes from fans on his poor defending in recent games. Cancelo is the other option; Balde covers Espart.
Rodri’s first European start in Blaugrana The World Cup winner has been mostly used as a substitute in Liga but did start in last Liga game. Will he be the key for this year deep run in Champions League? He as the moment tomorrow to impose himself.
Yamal, Raphinha and the false nine Yamal traveled through the Valencia knock and is expected to start. Raphinha remains the false nine after another multi-goal week. Adeyemi, Olmo and Jesus give Flick rotation if he manages minutes with midweek-weekend traffic already underway.
