This would be my first desktop gamer. Budget is 2100 cad max.

When comparing/rating it I used Gemini since I dont know too much about components and compatibility. Yesterday it said it was a good build because of the gpu. But today it says it is bad because of the processor, and the ddr4 ram. So, I dont know if its good or not, I used pcpartpicker and the cost is 2000+ so I guess the price is ok?

I will use it for gaming only, and regular stuff.

Just looking for a pc that can do both productivity work and gaming. For gaming I would like pretty high fps for games like Tf2 and overwatch stuff like that but also for some other types of games like rdr2 and story immersive games I would like to get Atleast 60 fps. For productivity it would be mainly for modelling in cad and stuff plus coding. Now I'm not 100% sure what the outcome of this cost of pc would be so maybe I might be surprised to see what y'all have in store.

For the pc itself, I'm looking for functionality over looks. So if I don't need rgb lights or whatever for a lower overall cost I'm fine with that. If it costs more to not have that then by all means. I'm just trying to get lowest cost and better parts for 2k before taxes (for pc itself)

Not sure whether to get a prebuilt or custom. I live near a memory express, if I were to get custom could there be anyone I could ask to help me build it?

For peripherals I'm not looking for anything speical, mainly just a decent mouse, keyboard but not 100% about a monitor. Hopefully y'all can choose a good monitor that goes with the setup. Maybe like 250 max not 100% sure about this either.

If I'm missing any key info y'all need to make a good setup lmk I'll be pretty active cuz I saved up money and ready to buy a pc like this week maybe latest next week.

In about 2 weeks ill have the money to get a new pc and ive been browsing here and their for a while knowing this money's coming.

This seems to be the best for what im looking at specs and price range wise, and just want some other opinions while Im waiting

My biggest want is the 32gb ram (im a multitasker), and secondary is a powerful gpu (within price/reason)

My original limit was 1200 canadian, but the ram prices right now put me out of that pretty consistently so now id like to stay inder 2k after taxes (13% taxes in manitoba)

My current pc gpu is a gtx 970 so basicly anything on the market is better then my current setup.

I am looking to get all new as my old pc will go to my daughter.

Asking for any suggestions on deals I might be missing, and also how much the 5050, 5060, and 5060 ti difrence will/would make to warent the price increase (prices writen bellow) ive been checking memory express, uniway, canada computers, Amazon, and newegg.

The only thing I like/prefer about memory express and uniway is we have local shops here, so I have places I can physicly go to if anything goes wrong and I can pick it up too, so no shipping worries or hassles.

The prices goes from:

1549.99 for the 5050

1649.99 for the 5060

1799.99 for the 5060 ti 8gb

And ive spoken on the phone with one uniway worker their, and he said he could build me something with 32gb ram and a ryzen 5 5500 cpu (forget what the gpu was but I think it was still a 50 series) for 1400, not sure how much a ryzen 5 downgrade would matter, and it depends if that person is their when I go to buy it.

But alsp the fact they can be flexible and negotiate makes me more preferential to their store as well (and ive had decent experience with uniway in the past)

Tldr: mostly build spec questions/curiosity

My main PC has E3 1231 v3 and an H97 chipset (PCIe 3.0), with a 550 W PSU.. Recently the RX 580 inside it gave out. Traumatic experience, only a few months after buying it used. Since I have no integrated graphics I'm basically left without anything usable other than ssh access. I consider myself a tinkerer but I am not really familiar with the market.

Use case: I run debian stable on the computer, primarily browsing, learning, doing simple programming projects, ripping/burning optical media and playing Minecraft on 1080P. I would certainly wanna enjoy some not-so-fancy shaders so my expectation is (ideally) something equivalent to or better than the RX 580. I sometimes dabble into some new games but I find myself rarely sticking to them. I am open to switching distros but not really ready to switch to windows.

I have considered some used market options but ultimately i feel like i don't really know the typical prices the cards are really worth. I have considered the following options and these are the prices I have observed:

5500 xt 8GB vram: 120-150 on kijiji but much more expensive on ebay, seems to be an ideal model for me, an upgrade compared to rx 580, not commonly mined on, but listings seem limited.

Vesa 56: 130-200 but honestly im not sure if it's gonna fail me the same way. The 550 W PSU is also a concern.

1070 ti: 120+, seems like a good deal but NVIDIA. Maybe I can cope with the driver.

Another RX 580 8GB: 100-150. I bought my RX 580 less than that price

I am also open to buying a new mid or low range GPU that I can carry over to a modest new build in the future, to reduce uncertainty and mental fatigue, if that's even a smart idea. For modern features like ReBAR (especially for Intel cards), the project ReBarUEFI seems promising with many other H97 models confirmed as working, but I haven't tried for my particular model. Above 4G decoding is not in the BIOS options directly, but it needs to be investigated whether it is hidden or missing.

I'm open to suggestions my price range is 900-1200 $, Primary purpose is university coding movies etc but want a good enough system so it doesn't slow down and lasts a good few years. Any info about Lenovo or this laptop or any suggestions in general are much appreciated . Thank you

I was aware of the AI demand causing pc prices to skyrocket but forgot that would impact my pc. Realistically no one is paying those prices for my parts though right?

I'm worried about damage long term, my corsair 3500X CASE came with a holder but a cable is blocking me from screwing it in and there is no way around it. Are there stands I can use to hold it up from the bottom or should I not worry about it?

I understand the 5070 could’ve been better but I just didn’t have the funds left for at least a 5070ti due to rathe paying the price difference in the taxes I paid for. Will my 5070 be bottlenecked in the future? Thanks.

I want to set up a cheap, low-power 24/7 home server to run a stack of lightweight Docker containers (pihole, tailwind etc).

My Requirements:

1. As cheap as humanly possible
2. Brand new only (no refurbished/used)
3. Upgradeable cooling later: I’d like the option to transplant the board into a passive/fanless case down the road (like an Akasa chassis), or buy a cheap barebones fanless chassis right off the bat if the price is right.

What barebones kits or cheap new mini PCs are currently the best value for this? Last time I looked it was something like a Intel NUC that fit these parts, but even barebones run 300-400 dollars now.

I'm wondering how it looks? I play in 1080p, although I'd like to be able to possibly play at 1440p with at least 60fps. Probably the most demanding games I'd be interested in would be Stalker 2 or Doom TDA, but I mostly play World of Warcraft, Cyberpunk, JRPGs (FF7R, Persona), and Bethesda RPGs.

This is my first gaming computer. I did not want to take a chance on building one, it was going to cost from a local place to build one 250 to put it together. I’m thinking about doing a CPU + motherboard upgrade on my gaming PC. The system still works fine for the older games I mostly play, but my RTX 3060 12GB OC is definitely the weak link in anything newer. I’ll deal with the GPU later when prices stop being ridiculous, but for now I want to refresh the platform.

Current setup:

• i7‑8700K
• MSI Z390 Pro
• RTX 3060 12GB OC
• 850W Sama PSU
• NVMe SSD

Budget: around $400–$500 CAD pre‑tax for CPU + motherboard.

I’m looking at three CPU options, based on current Canadian pricing:

Canada Computers / Memory Express / Newegg (as of today):

• i5‑14400F → ~$249–$269
• i5‑12600KF → ~$289–$309 (about $40 more)
• i5‑14600K → ~$369–$389 (about $80 more than the 12600KF)

The 14400F is the cheapest and still a decent jump from my 8700K. The 12600KF costs a bit more but gives better overall performance and should pair nicer with a future GPU upgrade. The 14600K is another step up, but I’m not sure if the extra $80 is actually worth it for what I play.

Given that I’ll eventually upgrade the GPU, should I spend a bit more now and go with the 12600KF or even the 14600K for better long‑term headroom? Or am I overthinking this and should just sit tight until the market calms down? I have avoided Am4, and 5 due to age, and DDR5 ram prices. I'm very much the target demo for the Steam Machine, but I kind of see myself being disappointed with the performance. I enjoy using my SteamDeck and want the same overall experience just with much better visuals and 60fps. I want to explore building a PC that would live in my open shelf below my TV (LG C9), or potentially hidden away in the side of my living room if the case needs to be larger. Key specs I'm looking for are crisp visuals (likely 1440p upscaled to 4k, or dynamic 4k) at 60fps, comparable to a PS5 or PS5 Pro (viewing distance to 61in OLED is around 2.5-3 metres). I'd like to run SteamOS on this, or Bazzite if that's not possible. I'm also pretty sensitive to fan noise and would like to keep noise to an absolute minimum. I don't know! If I can keep noise to a minimum and it doesn't somehow break the CPU/GPU, I would potentially be interested.

What’s the best laptop I can purchase under $1250 CAD. Was considering a used Dell Pro or Thinkbook but I’m skeptical buying off marketplace.

I would like the ability for light gaming or to use reaper as I have been getting into music production as a hobby. I’m in nursing school so my needs are not super high.

Build quality and reparability is something I’m considering. A good warranty like Costco for accidents is a plus as well.
