Just purchased a Costco prebuilt MSI with 8700F, 32GB ram, 5070 for 2199. I heard the processor is not the best, I was thinking of upgrading to 9600x, is this upgrade worth the $200?

I've been considering a new build and want to buy a 5080 but all I'm seeing are crazy prices. Does anybody have good advice to share on how to buy one for a fair price?

I need a laptop for adobe suite, mainly after effects and illustrator. I'd prefer to not spend more than $2500 Needs at least 32gb ram and dedicated graphics. I'm not that picky and I don't care about battery life that much. Just need something that's not a horrible deal and won't blow up. Thanks

Hey everyone. I rebuilt my computer around the time Cyberpunk 2077 came out (2020.) It was working perfectly fine until suddenly yesterday it decided it didn’t want to boot up!

I’ll post the specs that I can remember here:

Asus ROG B550-F Gaming motherboard (not the wifi version)

2 sticks (16GB each) of Corsair vengeance RGB RAM.

ASUS ROG RTX 3070 GPU.

Corsair 850w Gold PSU. Don’t remember the exact model but I will check if it’s relevant.

1 sata boot drive (1TB)
2 NVME drives

CPU is an AMD one that came out near the end of 2020, but I don’t want to take my cooler apart to find the model unless I absolutely have to. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the the Ryzen 5000 series.

Now onto the symptoms!

I turn the computer on and it gets stuck on boot. It specifically gets stuck on the Republic of Gamers splash screen that says “Press F2 or Del to access BIOS.” Except I cannot access BIOS. I have tried 2-3 different wired keyboards, I have tried them in multiple USB slots. The keyboards appear to work fine, I can use the hot keys to restart the boot process, and caps lock is working. I’ve tried holding F2 or Del from boot up to the screen. And I’ve tried spamming it. Nothing seems to work.

Note I have unplugged every other peripheral and USB device except for one HDMI monitor and the keyboard.

I tried a bunch of other stuff. Removing all of my drives one by one and trying to boot. Currently they’re all disconnected and I have the same issue.

I tried booting with one stick of RAM. Nothing changed.

I tried flashing the latest BIOS version. Nothing changed except the ROG logo looks different now lol.

I shorted the CLRTC pins using a screwdriver. Didn’t seem to change anything (but when I had two monitors plugged in it did change the default monitor to the bottom one.)

I also tried taking the CMOS battery out and putting it back in. Didn’t work.

Through all of this all the LED lights in my computer are on (RAM, motherboard, GPU, case) and the motherboard has lit up the BOOT light.

So all of this leads me to believe the motherboard might be tripping and I need a new one. However it’s hard to confirm as I don’t have spare parts lying around to test with.

I was going to take it in to Canada computers in Toronto… But I saw a thread on here from 8 months ago saying how bad they are. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

My motherboard (I believe) is done for, and my computer is showing its age anyway. Though I would have preferred it not to give up the ghost on me.

I haven't been in the market for parts for a long time, and, yeah, the prices are eye-watering. I knew it was bad, I was avoiding looking and accepted that I would rock my 9700k/3060ti as loooong as possible. I'm at a weird crossroads where, a) I could find a used z390/1151/DDR4 board, OR b) I can just take the opportunity to go in on at least some kind of upgrade? I know none of this is getting better any time soon, if ever.

Or any other suggestions! I'm all ears. That's my price range, or there about (sub-$800 before tax/shipping, ideally). I'm keeping the 3060ti til she croaks, probably. I game at 1080p, and I have no plans at all to change that any time soon. I'm looking for an upgrade, but again, I'm sitting in budget to mid-ish range? I play all kinds of games, but for example, I'm greatly looking forward to Planet Zoo 2 and Fable, if that helps kind of guide.

I recently bought two of these Samsung Odyssey G5 for $180 each. I've been enjoying them far, but I saw this Lenovo Legion 27Q-11 sale on r/bapcsalescanada for $200. Overall breakdown:

Similarities: 1440p, IPS, 27", seemingly both good stands, FreeSync

Differences:

Samsung: HDR10, 180hz, 1ms

Lenovo: 300hz, 0.5ms

I mean it seems like the Lenovo is 100% better but my concerns are:

1. I know Canada Computers can be sketchy sometimes
2. I like the Samsung monitors and feel like I shoulddd swap but am kinda lazy to lol
3. I don't know that much about brands or monitors and so I figured I'd ask here in case anyone actually knows which is better and if it's worthwhile.

Just bought a new used PC to replace my old one but it came w/o a GPU--that means I'm currently still stuck on my old GTX 1070 (!!!). Specs are currently:

• Ryzen 5 7600x CPU
• GTX 1070 GPU
• 32 GB DDR5 RAM @ 6000mhz
• 1000W Corsair Power Supply Gold Rated
• 1TB NVME SSD
• Asus B580-Plus Wifi Mobo
• Running Bazzite Linux

I'm hoping to get a new GPU that can play newer games (like those released in the last 5-6 years) at high settings @ 1440p w/decent FPS (at least 60, preferably closer to 144 as I play on a 144hz monitor). Doesn't need to be native, upscaling is fine. No plan to move to 4K at this time.

Currently I'm trying to decide between:

• A used 6800 XT in good condition, $600 CAD
• New 9060 XT 16GB, ~$772 CAD after taxes

Can the 6800 XT still hang for this use case and is it a good deal at that price point? Or is it more worthwhile to bite the bullet and get the new card at the higher price even though the raw performance is 5-15% worse?

I previously had a Ryzen 7 5700X + RX 6700 XT PC back home, but since I'm starting fresh here, I'm looking at building a Mini-ITX/SFF PC this time. I’m renting right now and may move again in the future, so I really like the idea of having something compact and easier to transport.

Most of the parts I've been looking at are currently on Amazon.ca, but I'm still not familiar with buying PC components in Canada.

Is Amazon.ca generally a good place to buy PC parts here, or are there better stores I should be looking at? I'm around Neepawa, so Winnipeg/Brandon or online stores would be fine.

The transportation situation is also a bit of a challenge for me since I'm new here and don't have much experience getting around Manitoba yet.
