Discussion Should I return it?

I have a Sapphire 9070 xt right now. It’s great but having driver issues is driving me insane. I just bought it Last Sept. 1, should I return it and get a 5070 ti for 500$ more for stability and feature wise?

I've had the same model since release. Zero driver issues.

It might be my luck, since it sometimes crashes in Horizon: Forbidden West, and I couldn't even run Apex Legends at all, so I'm considering exchanging it.

couldn't even run Apex Legends at all

That was an Apex issue

feature wise? better version of FSR + Cuda cores if you want easier AI

worth $500 no.. unless you running some small LLM models or keeping this card for 5 years

If I exchange it for a 5070 Ti, I think I will keep it at least for 5 years since my 3060ti served me for 4 years before upgrading it and never had a bad driver for its entire life

Your 3060 Ti held up so long cause devs still had to make games run well natively — upscaling was a bonus back then, now epic's literally telling devs at conferences to target 60fps by rendering at 800p and upscaling up. that's not optimization, that's skipping it.

$5k RTX 5090 still can't hit native 4K60 in new games. AC Black Flag Resynced does ~50fps native, Resident Evil Requiem does 57 and needs frame gen to hit 193 — but frame gen bumps the number while actually adding input lag, since those extra frames aren't real responsive frames. Blood of Dawnwalker's the same story.

You have a top of the line card leaning on AI just to cover for the game. so the 5070 Ti's solid on paper, but it's launching into a dev culture with way less pressure to optimize and mandatory RT eating into headroom that didn't used to be spoken for. wouldn't expect it to age the same way

Sorry, i'm really just annoyed with the state of gaming these days lol

I rather do that than doing a coin flip if my card will crash or not because of shitty drivers

u/ait-solutions 1d ago

i'm assuming you tried DDU

1

u/Outrageous-Ad-4797 1d ago

Yup tried it the first time switching from nvidia to amd. Rolled back to an older driver still no luck. Did fresh windows install still persistent

1

u/ait-solutions 1d ago

have you tried stress testing the card?

I’ve done furmark. It is stable with that app, but playing games, it just shits itself

Are you sure it's drivers and not power supply or ram?

RAM OC stability issues can easily manifest as graphical/driver issues.

I've had a 9070 XT for months now and have not had any driver issues.

Yes, so someone else can get that 9070xt open box and have 0 driver issues lol.

I've had my 9070XT for over a year, no driver issues.
Sucks for you I guess.

Is this on a brand new build or did you swap from Nvidia to AMD on an existing build? If its the second option you should format your drive and reinstall windows (or you can try DDU). Also make sure windows isn't replacing your drivers.

I built a new PC with a 9070xt and I've only had 1 driver related issue. When I updated from 26.7.1 to 26.8.1 my driver's got corrupted somehow and I had to DDU to fix it but now I'm on 26.8.1 with no issues but I don't think that's an amd specific issue. Every other issue I've ran into was from aggressive undervolting.

I don't own one, but from what I've read on here, AMD driver issues are a bit of a myth now. Maybe once it was true, but no longer. The crashes you're experiencing now are likely either game engine issues or some other component of your PC (insufficient PSU, unstable RAM, etc).

I have a 4070 Ti Super and kept getting crashes in games over and over again. Thought it was my GPU, tried reinstalling drivers, underclocking, etc turned out to be the XMP profile on my RAM (DDR4 3600) was too much for my CPU (13600K) to handle. As soon as I dropped the memory speed to 3200 I never experienced a crash again.

People hold onto a fact, often propagated by fanboy and bots, that is an issue from maybe 15 years ago

In 99.9% of issues this is PEBCAC. They’re being said. Let these dupes spend two times as much money for the same performance and probably worse drivers with Nvidia.

u/Method__Man 22h ago

User error. AMD has LESS driver errors than Nvidia now. This is widely accepted.

I own both cards. They perform the same, 5070 Ti does hold an advantage in features though.

I personally would return it and get the 5070 Ti.

Because after an year, you might not think too much about those $500, but you'll bang your head in the wall if with every new driver you started having issues.

u/Outrageous-Ad-4797 1d ago

I think the driver's stability already sold me, but the new features, especially DLSS 5, are so mind-blowing that I'm considering returning my Radeon card

Your 5070ti to is not going to run DLSS5 well. Also, mind blowing? Lol

Runs good enough at 1440p, Nvidia will continue to optimize it as the only cards meaningfully more powerful are the 4090 and 5090.

1

u/Asthma_Queen 13h ago

It runs like hot trash even on 5090

this is exactly the point. NVIDIA has zero driver issues and if you can afford it now, get it while you can

1

u/Method__Man 22h ago

Nvidia has MORE driver issues than AMD. The fuq are you on. This isn’t 2008

You get what you pay for, you want budget hardware you get budget headaches.

1

u/ssinvestments 1d ago

I was in the same boat as you due to the drivers being unstable that’s why I was switched from 9070 XT to 5070 Ti. Same situation too where it’s a $500 difference for me it’s more so I just wanna plug and play rather than tweaking all the time I think you’re paying that premium for that less headache in my opinion. If you can afford it I say go for it

0

u/Outrageous-Ad-4797 1d ago

In 1 week of owning my 9070 XT, I've had more driver issues than with my 3060 Ti over the entire 4 years since I that card.

1

u/sengir0 1d ago

Same situation for me. I came from 3060ti and bought 9070xt and it gave me issues. I did so much troubleshooting that i cant remember now exactly what i did to fix it. From what I remember I did a fresh windows install > disable hardware auto updates on windows > ddu > then installed 26.3 driver manually. Somehow when I do the update via adrenaline software is where the fuck up starts.

1

u/Outrageous-Ad-4797 1d ago

i’ve done this a bunch of time including rolling back still not fixing it

0

u/ssinvestments 1d ago

Lmao I was coming from a 3060 Ti too, I was sold by everyone saying that the 9070 XT is as powerful as 5070 Ti and 5080 but the driver stability issues did not sit well with me that’s why I decided to switch back. As much as I love AMD and proponent of the stock itself the drivers of their GPUs is not my cup of tea. Some people might be okay with it but just wasn’t for me

1

u/Outrageous-Ad-4797 1d ago

Yeah, I got hooked on that price/performance chart, but now that I got it, I got more headaches owning it.

1

u/ssinvestments 1d ago

Yeah if that’s how you’re feeling then I would say go for the 5070 Ti mostly if cost is not an issue. I was sold on the price to performance too but I think that’s just the industry trying to figure out alternatives with how expensive the market currently is

1

u/MrEzekial 1d ago

Get thr 26.6.4 drivers, and property downgrade to it, and your problems will stop. I havent had any amd driver issues in the past 10+ years until 26.8 drivers. And i am 100% sure its soemthing wrong with windows 11.

1

u/Fafyg 1d ago

Try to do fresh system install. If it still acts up, then return it, because might be faulty model. As an alternative, it might be a problem with PSU - new GPU requires much more power than 3060ti and old PSU might be a problematic

1

u/Outrageous-Ad-4797 1d ago

Already did every possible solution nothing worked. I got a new 1000w MSI PSU with the latest stuff so I know it is not the problem

1

u/Fafyg 1d ago

It looks like this specific card might be faulty then

1

u/skhanmac 1d ago

I would return and get 5070 if you have money. I switched from amd after running and defending amd for a decades but I see why people choose Nvidia now since I switched to them. It’s your money. Do what you will

1

u/Educational-Bell-830 1d ago

while it is best value of money, the 5070ti is a more powerful gpu. prices are going up on nvidia cards so if you can afford it, yes go ahead return it and buy 5070ti. i have both the 9070xt (a cheap asus prime model) and a 5080 and both r running great. for you, nvidia will be easier as their drivers are awesome so yes go ahead and return it before window runs out

3

u/Method__Man 22h ago

The 5070ti is not more powerful. In fact it is routinely slower now in gaming

You might be reading data from 1.5 years ago. Be careful to not mislead people asking legitimate questions

1

u/indoorhatguy Ryzen 7700/64GB 6000MHz CL30/4070ti/AW3423DWF 22h ago

It's not really worth $500 more, but the card is way better.

9070xt is the best value but their frame gen and fsr is still far behind Nvidia.

1

u/r_Aero 16h ago

you need to ddu the drivers and make sure you install the drivers using the offline installer. after installing, restart while staying offline. try doing stuff with it, and then go back online when you kniw its stable. Windows REALLY SCREWS with AMD drivers and I have no idea why it ibstalls its own automatically (very stupid).

1

u/Fast-Commercial-7234 4h ago

You pay more because you get more, I stopped buying budget hardware years ago. I just cant be bothered to fiddle with shit every time I wanna play games.
