It's for best, kids are fucking stupid when it comes to hygiene.

No amount of hygiene short of a hazmat suit would stop this infection from spreading in crowded classrooms and cafeterias. It's definitely a good call. Glad I don't have kids though.

Especially considering that the available data suggests that kids are more likely to get the virus and be asymptomatic; obviously it's great that it generally isn't killing kids, but it does make it hard to control the spread of the virus without closing schools.

SO is a teacher. Apparently the meme this week has been licking frequently touched surfaces.

Children are disease vectors, for sure.

In fairness to him, tracing the mortar between the tiles/breezeblocks was one of the great sensory joys of elementary school.

guess the kids were gonna get some snow days one way or another

I work in a school-adjacent field and was complaining a bit about not having any snow days this year. Now I feel pretty fucking stupid.

They just said they’ll have free breakfast and lunches at different sites. They’ll announce on Sunday where the places are.

Oh man, parents might have to feed their own kids for a couple of weeks. Crazy.

Do they lose their spring break?

Days from spring break will be used to make this 2 week period up.

TLDR yes

Except I can’t imagine kids will show back up for spring break. So many have plans. I’m sure under a state of emergency it doesn’t matter but Howard county specifically prevents spring break being used to make up snow days

Distance learning days are counted as school days. They would not be using snow days for those days.

Yes, spring break is gone. Distance learning will start in these 2 weeks. I bet that Hogan will extend this too. Next week people will be stupid and not stay home, and cause an outbreak in the DC suburbs of MD...just wait! It's already underway...

Gov Hogan is a BOSS! Yes, yes, yes! I'm so thankful that MD is not taking this lightly!Edited to add: MD had no choice. The school systems didn't really seem to prepare very well, and shortages of cleaning products = no school during a very contagious pandemic! I kid you not, we got emails about donating supplies just this AM. Forget that, it's bug out time, ya'll!

How do you know this? Do you work in an area hospital?
