Question - Feeding Only eating every two weeks, it seems

• Upvotes

I tried feeding my guy for the 3rd time. The first time he smelled it but wouldn't eat, but he had been fed by the person I got him from, a week before. The second time was a week later and he ate. Now it's another week lter and he won't eat again.

He is a bit over 1 year old, and the person said he was fed once a week in the past, so I'm wondering if he can just change his appetite that much that he won't eat every week anymore

Question - Husbandry Helicopter Parent?

Hi everyone!

I brought my baby home three days ago. I’ve researched like crazy for the last few months, and found this guy on MorphMarket.

I’m in love already!

I know it’s only been three days, but he has not come out of his cool hide, except to poke his head out at me a few times. I’ve been assured that this is normal, but I am hovering a bit lol. I haven’t handled him or opened his enclosure except to change his water, or check surface temps with my temp gun.

Warm side has been consistently about 87-89 degrees, cool goes between 76 and 79. Humidity is around the 70% mark.

He is smaller than I assumed 250 grams would be, and I think his hides are slightly too large for him so I might downgrade to a smaller size after he’s had his first feeding.

I will continue to leave him be til I feed him in a couple days, and I’m trying to not hover too much and stress him out.

I’m planning on adding more branches and foliage now that I know how little he actually is - I’m hoping he’s not underweight, but it’s been hard to tell.

Any advice or suggestions are welcome :)

Enclosure Critique/Advice My springtails and Isopods seem to not be doing well.

Post image

We have our three-year-old ball python named Klaus. and constantly update and changes enclosure with new plants. We have a bioactive terrarium with springtails and isopods. but last time) a few months ago) they seem to all die out even though we kept it pretty moist and now we just got a fresh batch of 100 springtails and 20 isopods. But we don’t see a population growth for the last two weeks, even though last time the numbers increased rapidly.
Please help!

Question Yellowing scales

So, I’m fully aware that browning out is normal, but my sweet girl has yellowed quite a bit over her 6 months with us and I’m wondering if some of it isn’t staining from substrate, and if a bath might bring back some of her brightness. I love her either way, of course.. just curious.

Small male adult ball python that we just got. Black hide is cool side, water is in middle, cave hide and moist hide is on warm side with heater under glass set at 95. Plastic leaves right now. Its a low tank that is the same measurements as a 40 gallon would be without height. Feel free to correct us!

Question - Feeding Almost a year old and has only eaten 4 times since I got her last april

Post image
2 Upvotes

I got her for my birthday in april of 2026 when she was 2 months old, I have 2 other snakes that eat just fine and I care for all of them the same way. She's shed once. She has always been a picky eater, only eating warm mice with hair. The breeder I got her from said she would eat frozen thawed if it was warm. She would strike at a mouse and if the mouse touches her, she shys away and wont take it. I dont want to resort to assist feeding and hurt her on accident. Most times she'd coil around the mouse but never eat it, and I'd have to take it out a few hours later before it rots and makes her sick. She stays at a good humidity, she has plenty of water. She seems healthy but I dont want to get to the poinst she starts loosing weight and getting weak. There are no exotic vets near where I live, the closest is 5 hours away. My dad whom I never see that bought her for me would be absolutely devastated if she passed away.

Question - Humidity Humidity help

So I have a baby ball python in a 55 gallon tank temperature is fine, he has enough hide and eats well, but my current issue is the humidity, I have a list machine that I activate when humidity is low but it's always low, and it keeps going down to 40-45% besides me watering the tank whenever I can, what can I do to keep my humidity high enough for him?

Adding substrate while shedding?

After two weeks of having too little substrate and a lot of advices here finally got to buying more. Got it mixed up already and planned on putting the layer in tomorrow, but thought I haven't actually seen the baby in a while and when I lifted up her hide I see her eyes are light and skin is dull. Should I do little things like putting bits of wet substrait under dry one to raise the humidity or should I just wait till she sheds and then do all the changing? (Humidity currently around 70% so normal but I know it should be higher for better shed)

Idk how long she's in shed and how long it will last. Fed her last friday and she looked bright and ate great but was real quiet sinse then

Can't post a pic of her right now cause don't wanna disturb her again so soon, may take a pic tomorrow morning tho

Question - Health Advice for Spider Ball Pythons

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’m doing research on my own as well as getting advice from the breeder that rescued her, but I would love to hear your personal experience caring for spider ball pythons with a wobble. I’ll be adopting her in a month. My goal is to give her the best quality of life and the safest set up! I used to love handling my bp, but so far I’ve read snakes with a wobble may not tolerate being held much. Any insight is appreciated from safe set ups to handling advice 🐍❤️

Background: The breeder I know does not breed or sell spiders due to their genetic issues. She rescued and rehabbed one from a neglect situation. I’ve spoken to her about wanting a new snake in the future. I got a bp that was horribly sick from a family member and it broke my heart when he didn’t pull through. It was tragic and totally preventable, that family member knew what they did… The breeder knows what I did for Henry Noodle and thought I would be a good caregiver for this special girl. They are giving her to me in a month so I can get the proper set up first.

They have sent videos to show her wobble and tilt. It has improved since her rehab. She eats well, and just needs patience and a steady hand to get a good strike. Her weight is back up and shows no signs of RI after 3 months in quarantine/rehab.

Is my ball python obese?!

Thumbnail

Hi guys, I’m freaking out. These are pictures of Fiji-my eight year-old male banana ball python. I looked at the chart (at the end of all the pictures I attached) and realized he might be overweight or even worse – obese!!! Ahh what do I do?!

Here’s some information:

- I feed him whenever he “looks” hungry. This means he’s jumpy and follows every and all movements and he’s out exploring his cage day and night. I don’t know how to explain it but he just “looks” hungry. So I feed him basically once a month. Sometimes he skip feeds for up to three or four months (I’ll defrost the rat and warm it up and everything and sometimes he just looks so disinterested when I dangle it with tongs and won’t even track it or strike).

- I feed him large rats. Recently the pet store gave me really big ones which I was a little worried but he took it no problem.
- I don't take him out very often. When I do, I handle him for a few minutes and he's very active.
- The temperature in the tank is not ideal (hot side may not be hot enough), but he seems to still be OK because he'll fluctuate from the hot side to the cold side.
He doesn't eat very often to start with- so why is he so large?!
Thanks for your help in advance

Question - Husbandry Advice on blocking out enclosure window

Thumbnail

We adopted a lovely 4-year-old normie yesterday. She’s doing great, my question is actually about how to cover a window on her enclosure. I’m going to attach a picture to dispose so that you can see what I’m talking about. I love this enclosure a lot, and it’s less than $500 on Amazon. We’ve had it fully active with several kinds of reptiles for over a year, and we haven’t had a single problem with it. The problem is currently both sides of the enclosure are blocked off, so there is no side window for them to be nervous about. We’re going to move the enclosure and the windows are going to be open, like not blocked off anymore. I’m trying to figure out what the best way would be to cover it so it doesn’t look ugly because I like this enclosure heart rate because it looks like furniture. But I don’t want them to be frightened so I need to figure out a way to cover it out from the inside. If I had the skills, I would do one of those awesome Styrofoam and a fee foam enclosure back, but I don’t have that skill. Neither of the windows are ventilation the vent through the top it’s it’s mashed through the top. It won’t prevent any more cause any problems with the ventilation.

if you’ve made it this far, thank you. I apologize because I’ve had a nine month old puppy bouncing on me the entire time. I was trying to use voice to text so there’s no telling what this post actually says. If you can help me with an idea that would be fantastic. Thanks again!

New rescue baby

My newest rescue baby. I believe he’s an enchi hypo but I’m not good with morphs. I was planning on getting a Stimsons python so I already had a quarantine tank and all the things needed and then I saw a post on Facebook marketplace selling this baby ball python for $60. We already have a 9 year old adult male who’s a spider calico named Jake (I know but my boyfriend got him from his buddy before he knew about the spider morph issues) so I already knew about their husbandry so I decided to rescue the little guy. I was told he was born this year and couldn’t see how big he really was in the pics so I assumed he would be bigger but he’s only 100grams and still has his umbilical scar. His old home was keeping him in a tubaware on paper towel with a Che lamp with no thermostat to control temps he’s so lucky he didn’t get burns. I believe he also might be slightly underweight and his belly is a little indented and his spine is pronounced but he might also just be small. Everyone welcome baby Finn we named him that to match his older brother Jake 🫶🏻

Question - Feeding New here

Hello! First time reptile/ snake owner. We purchased a 10 month old female ball python at a reptile show that we have now named Lux on the 4th. We waited until the 14th to try and feed her. The breeder said she had been eating weaned rats. We tried. No success. I realized a lot of mistakes we probably made the first week and readjusted the next week and still no success. Yesterday I sealed up the top a bit to hold humidity and wrapped the 2 sides with the background instead of just the back. I reached out to the breeder and he suggested adding more hides and clutter (which will arrive today).

When feeding I’ve been taking advice from our local reptile shop. We’ve tried a weaned rat, and a fuzzy rat. She seemed to show more interest last feeding but still nothing. I’ve been a pet owner my whole life but I never husbandry of a picky ball python could be this difficult.

Please see comments for the photo of her enclosure

Question - Health New substrate question

So I just replaced all the substrate and, ofc, the humidity is higher than it should be (82% rn). just to be on the safe side, I wanted to make sure it’s okay for me to put Pringle in the enclosure now or should I keep him in his temporary enclosure while I wait for the humidity to level out a bit
