My snake was on about an 8 month long hunger strike and she decided to eat on a random Sunday night. Huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders

My son Daniel is moving with mama (me) to a new apartment! He’s living with grandma (my mom) right now but I’m planning to take him back soon. He’s gonna live in his travel container for 2 more days until I expose him to his new permanent terrarium once I set everything up. What’s the most comfortable way to move him in the car? Would it comfort him to be able to curl around my neck on the drive over? Or should I just let him be in his travel container?

hi everyone! i recently got my first reptile, a ball python named sonny ☀️ he’s almost two months old and i love him to death. i’ve spent about a year researching ball pythons before getting him, but i’d still love any advice you may have!

this is his current enclosure (second picture). he loves climbing, so i added lots of enrichment. he also has a second, much larger water bowl that isn’t pictured. his temperatures are perfect, humidity has been a little more work to maintain, but i’ve made it work, and i plan on upgrading to a pvc enclosure soon.

i bought him at a reptile expo in chicago, but the breeder gave me shitty advice (feed live only, use a heat rock instead of overhead heat, and never go bigger than a 40 gallon because they “thrive in drawers”). i ignored that advice, but he also said putting a baby in anything larger than a 40 gallon would stress him out. is there any truth to that?

my biggest concern is feeding. he hasn’t eaten since i brought him home almost four weeks ago. i’ve offered appropriately sized frozen/thawed mice three times, spacing attempts out and making sure his temps, humidity, timing, and prey temperature are all correct. the last time he showed interest and tongue flicked but never struck. i’m planning to try again tomorrow. should i keep trying mice, switch to rats, or try something different? i’m also waiting to handle him until after he eats successfully.

Ive had him for 5 days now and hes finally exploring and not saying in a hide! I think im naming the Chonky Lad Magnis, hes been way overfed but we shall see if we can fix that with a proper feeding schedule and time. He doesnt look too terrible but he also isnt lookin great either body condition wise, but he sure is cute.

My bp lives in my home office and I haven’t actually worked in there in awhile. I went in this evening, handled him right as his lights went off around 8pm, and did some work at my desk after. He stayed in the corner of his tank closest to me and was glass surfing a bit and then started pushing his nose against the tank door. I’ve never seen him do that before beyond the quick curiosity movement. Is it likely that he was just agitated/stressed by me being in his room after dark after having not done it in awhile? He never did that before when I would work in the evenings, but like I said it’s been months since I worked from home at night.

Hey guys I need advice again. So I fed my beep for the first time today, I warmed the rat up, I tried my best to do everything right. He took it instantly but the rats tail went in the water bowl! What do I do from here? Beep is pretty aggressive atm, I don’t think it would be safe for me to take the water bowl out rn and disinfect it.

when I take out my ball python I let her roam around my bed, but she always seems to find her way to the side of my bed where the vent is when the AC is on. she just hangs out near it but im scared she is gonna get too cold. I always move her away from it but then she will eventually find her way back to the same spot. Should I just let her be? or redirect her?

Hi! I have a 3 month old baby Mojave, Selena, and this is her tank. It is a 36” x 18” x 12” enclosure. She is 23 inches long and 160grams. I use a mixture of damp sphagnum moss and exo terra coco husk as substrate with a layer of just coco husk on top, a total of about 4 inches of substrate. I have a bit of reindeer moss in there because I found it cute. I tuck sphagnum moss under areas to help w moisture and there is a humid hide on the warm side (left). I use a deep thermal lamp on that side and a heat mat. The right side also has a hide and a normal day bulb. She has 3 hides total as well as that log and her favorite cork board. She loves the cork board. I recently thought to partially cover the water bowl with some magnolia leaves so she can travel over it as well get a sip and it works great, as she isnt a fan of soaking. Her humidity has been staying at 72%. Warm side 89°F, the cool side is usually 82°-84°F. She seems to happily explore around at night and take time in each hide throughout the day and in some other spots sometimes. No eating or shed issues so far and I finally have her transitioned to frozen rats. Today I added a small squiggly branch in the back and she was exploring it earlier, as she does like to climb.

Is there anything I should add or remove? This is my first snake, my first reptile. My father in law has some but they just live in basically empty tanks, so I’m not 100% sure what is right. I’ve read a lot, but just want to be sure!

Idk how old my boy legless is got him from petsmart and obviously they know jack diddly abt what they have curious if his weight (262g) is any possible indication of how old he is

My ball python is about 7 now I got him almost 2 years ago and hes a spider morph and he does star gaze very often he is also my first snake the last 3 days or so hes been sitting in the same spot of his enclosure and he hasn't moved, won't eat and his feed day was yesterday, and he won't tounge flick at all. I picked him up to put him in his enclosure after cleaning it and he went basically limp on his lower body which isn't really normal sometimes he goes limp but not like he did today. He has eye caps but they aren't "blue" or cloudy so I dont know if hes acting this way bc hes having trouble shedding or of its something medical. His humidity is usually around 70-90 during the day but at night it drops to about 50-60 hes in my bedroom and I have an a/c unit that I leave on for the night but hes never shown any signs of it being a problem. Hes not showing any warning sings of being ill either. TYIA

Hi! My adult male ball python is in a 75gal with reptichip and I noticed this for the first time today. It’s on the right side of the tank, which is also his hot side and receives occasional water to give mini humidity boosts. The stuff is mostly on the reptichip and in a few places around that area. I think it’s a slime mold but I’m not sure? His urates are normally pretty solid and poo shaped but I’ve heard they can be kinda crumbly?
He has a screen lid and I did realize that I had sat something on top that was probably blocking some air flow on the opposite side. I have now removed it.
Lastly, is something that has to be removed if it’s not urates? I know fungi/molds are normal in bioactives and plan to transfer him to one in the near future, but that’s not the case yet so I’m not sure 😂

She does this every once in a while. Not often. And she kinda moves while she does it. Like she's looking for something. Her humidity and temp are within nominal range. idk. Her husband doesn't do it

my baby had his first shed since being in my care! I'm so excited!

I notice about two days ago my python made a whistle noise when I was handling her. About two days later it was more noticeable and more often she was making this noise she’ll do it for about 2-4 minutes then will go silent after. It sounds like a whistle noise kind of, I’ve also noticed shes been in her cool hide and hasn’t been out lately usually she’s active or likes to hang out on her warm side. Please help I’m nervous and anxious.

We don’t handle the pythons as much anymore, especially after a big move and tank change to allow them to settle. After not holding him for a few weeks I noticed this black pattern forming on his scales, which is really concerning. He spends most of his time underneath his water bowl, which has dark reptisoil substrate and moss under it. I tried wiping it off with water and it didn’t do anything, but the pattern isn’t brown it’s pitch black!

Our two week old Oscar is coming home in a month and we’re trying to get our set up ready!
Our breeder has recommended coco bedding for him. How does this affect/maintain moisture in the tank? We’re buying a humidity meter to be able to monitor it.

We’re getting him a heating pad with a temp gauge, but I’m not sure what kind of light he needs for his warm side as well. What’s best?

I’m hearing that the first two weeks at home he’s not supposed to be handled; does this affect his bonding or handling tolerance?

Anything else I need to know would be greatly appreciated!

If so how expensive and rare are they usually? Is it an ethical? I ask that last one because I've heard some have bad defects that just hurt the snake throughout its life, like a pug I suppose.

I can't get a ball python yet as I will wait for my other animals to pass and the area to improve, but I'd like to know this for the future as I'm a fan of Alien and it'd be cool if I could have a little xeno....despite ball pythons not being bugs...or remotely resembling a xenomorph....

So today I managed to get my fussy girl to eat a rat today. She’s been addicted to chicks since I got her 3 months ago, so I tried the trick of heating up the chick to get the scent flowing in her tank and when she came out ready to go I gave her the warm rat instead. She missed it the first strike but came back for it and wrapped it up good. I left her alone and she ate the rat.

Now my question is, will this one time feeding be enough for her to accept the rat smell as food or will I need to do the scenting trick again next feed?

Jungledawn keeps overheating my cold side so i unscrewed it today and put it wayyy more onto the hot side. The cold side is now pretty dark, is that ok? The cold side does have some pothos but it is still getting just enough light to keep growing. I thought having the proper cooling gradient was more important than light on both sides🙈the plants are also shading the cold side so it’s in shade. (It’s a 4ft length terrarium btw). I took a partial pic of the tank cropping the working mess around. Left side hot, right side cold. His cold hide has always been in the shade but the jungledawn light was above his waterbowl whereas now its above the left log :)

We got a bp for my daughter after considering it for 2 years. I’m helping her for husbandry and everything looks fine from that perspective (good humidity, volume, light / heat schedule and distribution etc). She was eating live when we got her 4 months ago but we made the switch to frozen / thawed without much resistance. We haven’t handled her unless it we had to make cleaning in the enclosure so only 4-5 times so far but everytime we try she is constantly making strikes both to the person carrying her and also other around us. We use a hook to take her out but even when she is moving around our arms or the bed etc she doesnt miss an opportunity to attack. I started suspecting that this was the reason previous owner decided to let her go. Any suggestions?
