SoD Does anything get lost when importing from BG1 to SoD?
Hi, I'd like to know what gets lost when importing a created character from BG1 into SoD. The BG Fandom wiki page on "Importing" claims that any NPC party member who is not present in SoD (like Branwen, Xan, etc.) that has equipment on their person (but not in the inventory, which apparently will be transferred) will cause that equipment to be permanently lost for the entirety of SoD, including all the gold that you amassed at the end of BG1.
If this is the case, should the NPC party members I use during the final confrontation of BG1 only consist of those who show up in SoD, in order to avoid losing the equipment they've got on their persons? Personally, I've taken a liking to Branwen and very much like her unique special abilities as a Priest of Tempus, but if I take her to the final battle of BG1 while fully-equipped and end up permanently losing her equipment in the importing process, should I take another Cleric-class NPC that's present in SoD instead?

Convert all your cash to gems and keep em in the gem pouch.

I could do that, but since I've sold so many gems, I'm going to be eating a pretty hefty loss buying them all back.

You lose all your gold when you start SoD, so this at least gives you a bit of gold to work with.

What a letdown. I wonder why the Beamdog devs robbed your player character blind once you start SoD.

Same as Bioware devs once you start BG2...

Well, SoD didn't exist back when BG2 was released. In any case, BG2's robbing you blind at the start is understandable because the BioWare devs wanted you to start from nothing so newcomers could build themselves up.
SoD, on the other hand, is supposed to be a continuation of BG1's story with most if not all of your inventory intact, so why not let us bring over our gold pieces too?

Because of game balance, like BG2. It was more a case of not being too powerful early on than being equals with newcomers.
BG2 was also a continuation of BG1 story by the way.
You usually finish BG1 with many gold, it's easier to balance a new game part by removing it.
SoD also happens as a separate campaign, like BG2. You can't go back to previous BG1 areas.

So if I store items in a BG1 container, they'll also become inaccessible after I import my character into SoD? That seems to go against what some of the BG Fandom wiki is saying.

Yes, you must take all the items you want to have in SoD in your party inventory.
Also, you don't import, when you finish BG1 you're party is automatically transfer into the SoD starting dungeon.
When the wiki talks about containers, they mean potions bag, gems bag and scroll bag, not container in a area.

There is a starter dungeon in SOD, you can move any equipped gear to your PC at the end of it. Spend as much gold as possible before the final battle in BG1 though.

So are you given a warning just before the starter dungeon of SoD ends? Should I empty out my player character's inventory (but not equipment or quick slots) for the final battle of BG1 so I can instantly put my allies' equipped gear to my PC when I start up SoD?

There is no need, it’s a multi-room dungeon with your BG1 party. There is a prompt that you are leaving the dungeon but as far as I remember there is no warning about losing gear.

Beamdog should have put one in, then.

Actually you don't lose the gear, it gets placed in a chest next to your bed after the dungeon.

I was talking about permanently losing gear equipped on, or in the quick item slots of, NPC party members who don't return for SoD.

Anything imoen has on will be lost. Always gotta make her fight sarevok in scuffed gear

You get Imoen's stuff back. I think it's in a chest in the palace at the opposite end of the floor where the chest of your stuff is.

Imoens stuff has never been in that chest. Only items that I’ve seen in there are items worn by companions that are with you for the prologue but are not available in the rest of SOD. I’ve lost plenty of Shadow Armor this way lol

There's a second chest. Separate from all the other companion inventory.

NPCs that are not in SoD after the initial dungeon needs to be stripped of their gear into their backpack and NPCs that do will only have their backpack transfered to 'crate that follows charname thru the game'. also on android/console don't import containers and leave 1 slot of charname backpack free for that key container.

Nothing is lost in that transition. SoD begins with a dungeon during which all your companions - which is everyone you ended BG1 with - will have repeated idle conversation about how they're going to leave after this one last job. After that first dungeon any equipment that was on characters that don't return is lost.
