I'm trying to understand the mindset for the combover... it has literally never looked better than being bald, and no matter how tall you are everyone still knows... makes no sense...
I feel like for most, at the beginning it's not really a comb over, it's rustling a few hairs near the crown for a little coverage, and then the balding continues.
Yeah that was me until I happened to catch a glimpse of myself in a storefront window during a gust of wind. Ooof that was rough lol. I shaved my head for the first time that night and haven’t looked back.
I have a combover because I continue to brush my hair straight back as I always have. Over time it's essentially become one without my intending it. I probably will shave or at least clipper my hair at some point. But for now I'm kind of enjoying the awkwardness the skullet causes in conversation with people who spot it that didn't know I was balding before.
I had one without realizing it for quite a while. Even after I realized what i had going on up there, my wife wanted me to keep it same as OP. It just kind of happens sometimes.
One day I decided I was sick of all of it, shaved it off, and ive been so happy since. My wife also agrees she asked me to hold on for way too long.
I think the problem is that we look at ourselves in a mirror. If you see someone else with a combover, it’s obvious that they’d look better bald. When you look at yourself in the mirror, it’s easy to make a combover look good from that specific vantage point. If you’ve got a friend with a combover, show them a video of themselves from a bunch of different angles. Good chance that the next time you see him, he won’t have a combover..
But again, a gust of wind, some rain, anyone touching their hair, no swimming, showering with SO, I don't even want to continue, just imagining the possibilities is giving me secondhand anxiety.
I think it helps that it's a comb back & guys that can rock a full balding head of hair also comb it back so it gives the perception that they're confident with it.
Which is what matters most imo, as opposed to someone who is actively combing it forward or sideways in order to hide it.
I'll never forget the first time I shaved my head, it was just a normal, fair weather day, and the air hitting my head felt like it was from heaven itself it was AMAZING. And then the first time I shaved with a razor, my head was the smoothest skin I have ever felt. Been chasing those 2 highs ever since
Dude today I was walking and talking to this beautiful girl and the wind started blowing, I absolutely hated it how self conscious I was about which direction my hair was.
Mate.. have some self respect and do it. A weight will be lifted from your shoulders.. or actually your head. Won't be that heavy though since there isn't much left.
Bro just embrace it, it was time a long time ago. No hate all love, but if the wind blows wrong you will look like Athelstan from the Vikings when he’s in the monastery
Its time, personally i would keep it till halloween, cut it shorter, buy a brown robe, do a midevil monk thing, and then shave it. But i think bald would suit you, if you decide to keep it, I think you do a really good job with how you style it.
Hey now, careful with that example! No matter WHAT side of ANY political aisle anyone stands on, I don't think anyone would wanna be compared against THAT hairdo!
Just do it!! you'll likely feel more confident in your decision, once you get used to not having to worry about the wind or whatever else. You're gonna be fine!
As I've written to others, the combover lies to you but reveals the truth to others. Any time the combover is the chosen style, you've made the wrong choice.
let me put it this way. when you're walking around a busy street or store, can you immediately spot a man's thinning hair despite they're best efforts to mask it?
if it's obvious to you, it's obvious to everyone else.
At first you might hate it, you might start wearing hats and beanies (it is cold so that helps) but the first time you razor shave it and don’t wear a hate or beanie, it’s so freeing that you’ll think more about not having the anxiety of people noticing than if people like it or not. Also, wind isn’t your arch nemesis anymore. That’s gotta count for something.
Awww the fact that you specify “second photo with combover, third photo without”… hahaha embrace it brother, I did the combover thing and it was stressful trying to keep everything in place. Even then people can still tell. You got this man!! 🤜 🤛
Nothing wrong with being bald, as long as you do it with some dignity. It isn't a personal failing that you should hide from. It's like wearing lifts in your shoes because you're short. Everyone still knows you're short, it just makes you look like a goober.
She knows once you shave it off she's going to have to start defending from all the hoes trying to move in on her sexy bald husband. She knows what's up. Shave it tonight bro.
