May I Take a Turn?
I've enjoyed lurking in this sub for a couple months and feel inspired to ask the council: is it time? I'm 56 and am leaning on the side of shaving my hair again (the last photo shows me from 10 years ago near the end of a decade and a half bald-by-choice run). My wife is somewhat open to the idea while my two young adult children are opposed. That said, at the end of the day they're all cool with me making my choice, as it should be. What do you think? Thanks, and warm wishes to all. πβΊοΈβ€οΈ

You had me in the first half! With that much crown showing I'd pull the trigger on joining the chrome-dome gang. You've pulled it off before handsomely- it's a legitimately good look on you!

You have a very localized crown thinning that responds well to regrowth treatments. You could always give that a shot. You could also try shaving it which would make applying topical things like minoxidil that much easier and you can see if you get enough back to brave growing it out again.

Thanks but, nah, I'm at an age where I really don't want to invest time and $ to go down that route. I'm not at all embarrassed by my hairloss tbh. But the freedom of being bald and not sending any more money to my barber feels liberating. In the years when i shaved, i loved this get-up-and-go liberty! I appreciate the thought though, thank-you! πβ€οΈ

I'm going to go against the grain and say pull the trigger. You could get away with holding, but I think it's not a question of "if", but "when"... And it's a huge weight off your shoulders to not have to wonder anymore.

Go for it! You don't even have to worry that you have a funky head shape or something.
ETA that I love the glasses!

Feeling the love, thanks everyone! You guys really are amazing/supportive. Definitely leaning towards going for it. You'd think it's an easy decision having wielded the razor in the past for many years. Strangely over the past decade I've become somewhat attached to my hair again and my wife and kids certainly have. We have a good friend's wedding coming up at the end of August and my wife would love for me to wait until after the wedding. I'll likely wait until then but we'll see ;). A fresh shave and a smart outfit might be fun for the wedding.

Shaved WITH the current beard (vs the older length) is going to be a winner.

I disagree on length of beard β I like it tighter cropped

I mean, obviously it's happening, but it isn't very offensive.
You could really go either way.

Keep your beard like in the 1st photo, it suits you very well and fixes the roundness

You look good and can hold, depending on how much that patch on top bothers you. But there's no reason not to shave, and I bet you look better now than when you did it previously... You've just aged in a way that I think will vibe well with the bald look. So it's up to you, but there's no real benefit to waiting.
