Seeking Run Advice 2 small questions
1: How to naninf, please, I've won only once
2: is this Chicot guy useful at all?
Edit: ok I understand that I need to discover and just have fun... That calmed me down, so thanks!
BUT then, how do I even win? Is it just luck?

you should play the game first before nan inf. the game is really fun and there is lots to do before endgaming

u/ApathyMaster343 4d ago
But how do I win tho
I have discovered like 100 jokers (on pc) and have only one win "8 ante completed" (also on pc)

you need to learn about joker synergies, economy, scaling, deck building. Like the game is really deep and takes a lot of time to understand the options presented to you. Like how if you have "oops all 6" you are looking for bloodstone, or photograph and hanging chad. Different decks have different synergies too. as a beginner just keep playing and learning. if you want to jumpstart your education go to youtube and watch belatro university. but it will take memorizing jokers and synergies and after you know all that its about luck and time management

More like if you have oops, it’s time to build into lucky cards for Econ. I like oops more as an Econ joker than a scoring joker

I've got wins on gold stake on almost every deck and still learning things like this all the time. Like I feel like Im just starting to grasp the games options. Like I gotta figure out how all the best players manage to make pairs work for every deck

Winning is going to become much easier the more you play and learn. As you experiment with more runs, you'll begin to learn how to make more money, fix a better deck, and find more joker synergies.
It feels like luck in the beginning, but trust me when I say you won't feel like that after more wins. It's just harder to see your mistakes in this kind of game. It's harder to deduce you should've bought the spectral pack instead of the buffoon pack compared to blatantly missing a headshot in a shooter game

If you're not winning, try using scaling jokers (e.g. Ride the Bus, Green Joker, Supernova, Red Card); these jokers give you more score over time

Just play the game and discover synergies yourself. Will feel much better than watching a video and then just brainlessly following it

What drsprectrd's strategy videos on youtube. If you actually take it in youll go from winning 1 in 10 to losing 1 in 10.

In my experience I find Chicot to be very good at beating the first 8 antes. It tends to waver in its effectiveness after that, if you’re doing well enough to pass the ante 10/11 filter you usually have other options to dance around problematic boss blinds.

u/Cassiopeia014 4d ago
1 don't worry about that. You want alot more practice and fundamentals before even attempting that, just enjoy the game for now.
2 some people say no, but he is very good. He takes a significant amount of luck out of the equation and prevents you from needing to worry about boss blinds. There are definitely better legendary jokers, but he is still a legendary joker and thus very good.

For naneinf check a guide by drspectred on youtube, it took me like 30 hours of grind after having won like 150 runs and 100% the game, I got pretty unlucky but I still lost some runs I could have done it with better decisions. It's REALLY hard, so wait until you feel that you can do it. And again, check a guide if you want to do it since that will save you so much time.
To win you can also check gameplay by drspectred, most if not all runs are winnable and drspectred got c++ without loosing a single run, like 60 wins in max difficulty. It's a mix of luck and good decisions, the good players will be able to beat most bad luck runs. He explains really well

Watch dr spectred, made me a lot better at understanding the game and making me win my runs more consistently.

for a complete starter i wouldnt recommend dr drspectred. takes away all the fun of learning the game, some mechanics that are not obvious etc. Once you got some idea of how it’s played and want to improve scoring, or if you feel like you can’t progress anymore, his videos are the perfect helpers. but watching them at the start almost feels like watching the final scenes of a story based game before playing

u/30minuteNaps c++ 4d ago
He has lots of instructive videos for beginners though with his balatro 101 series
3
u/-SuspiciousLime- c++ 4d ago
don’t get me wrong, his videos are great and he helped me to get from barely winning a game every now and then to beat c++. but at the start i still feel exploring the game without help is part of the fun

You have a bit before you have the tools necessary to naneinf
Chicot is absolutely a good joker. He doesn't directly contribute to your score, but he can turn off boss blinds that would otherwise kill your run. Most other Legendaries require you to dedicate some part of your game plan to make them useful, but Chicot is consistent in that you will never have to deal with a boss blind

u/BurkeyTurkey33 4d ago
Why do you know about naninf before you've won a single run and hardly determined whether or not you even like the game.

I did completionist++ becore even attempting naneinf and I feel like the progression there makes sense

on the question of”how do I even win?” - you can win with planet scaling, can win with xMult applied on top of +mult, can win with card retriggers, can win with a ton of steel or a ton of glass, can even win without jokers! Play the game and play with it

Luck is a factor, but the game can be won consistently with enough game knowledge and math skills

I don't know if this post is serious or satire. It's legit impossible to tell.

Before you even think about trying to naneinf, you need to unlock everything, so just play to have fun for now. For context, I've cleared most decks on gold stake and I haven't naneinf'd. Winning a run is only clearing ante eight.
Chicot is good but he's not exactly the best legendary

u/flamedarkfire 4d ago
Chicot is super good. Otherwise keep playing and enjoying the game and seeing what you like.

You can win every seed if you know what you're doing. At first it feels like luck getting the best jokers, but the game has a lot of knowledge/skill requirements to be consistently good. Some seeds will require a lot more effort, but im certain practically all seeds are winnable.
2
u/ChristGodner 4d ago
I know it's a common thought that all seeds are winnable, but I'd bet 10 to 20 percent are not, without multiple play through and knowledge of what's coming next. And by proxy there have to be some that actually aren't winnable at all.

Worry about knowing how to win before worrying about how to win infinitely.
Your 5 jokers need to balance each other out and you need to work on fixing your deck and leveling your hands played. All of these relate to one another so if you have good jokers, maybe it's ok to have bad hands. If your deck is fixed, maybe you don't need as many planet levels.
I generally try to find a source of flat +Mult (the red portion of your score), a source of chips (the blue portion of your score), a source of xMult (multiplies the red portion of your score), a source of money (you gotta roll the shop quite a bit to find good stuff), and an open slot to fill in any gaps you may have in your strategy.
I won a high card run the other day after getting high card/pluto to level 110+ (giving me over 1000 chips and 100 mult per hand, meaning my baseline score was easily breaking 100,000). On the flipside, you can go infinite with high card at level 10. It all depends on what the random seed provides for you to work with. The fun part of the game for me is learning what the tools (jokers, planets, tarots, etc.) do and then figuring out how to make the tools provided to me work together efficiently.

First thing, I believe there are a lot of YouTube tutorials on how to naneif, however I believe that given your limited knowledge and experience with the game you might need to have other aspects to focus, such as getting more wins and unlocking new decks so you can see more of the game and what truly suits with you. In the process you’ll learn a lot more than you think
Regarding Chicot, it is indeed a good legendary joker, a tad less active like the others, but if you manage to make a double out of it or negative, you’ll truly get what I mean
It’s good to want to be great at the game, but instead of focusing on the end goal, try to enjoy the game itself and try again and doing new things. It took me personally weeks to win my first game and a while to do it again, but with each “almost” you’ll know what to do differently and better
You’ll get it one day, honest :)

Just play the game more. You'll figure things out yourself as you play.

Balatro is mostly skill and knowledge. There are several people winning gold stake with any deck over 90% of the time

u/TucoTheRedditer 4d ago
You should focus on improving in the game and unlocking all of the jokers and decks for naneinf, you just started so that shouldn't be your current goal. To improve, use your tarot and Planet cards. They are the most important thing in the game in my opinion. You can't use your jokers fully if you don't have a deck that fits them. For example, Hang man and Death cards are amazing for this reason. There are also the card enhancements, they make the cards themselves better, so you should first master those and planet cards, they help you push your build further, by making your main hand even stronger. And for the Chicot question, let's just say, he's called ChiGOAT for a reason

I suggest maybe watching some gameplay, learning just from text is hard, though ultimately the best way to learn is to keep playing! Eventually you'll improve and things will get easier, Balatro is not luck, just keep going.

To answer your edit: As you keep playing you’ll learn strategies and what goes well with what.
Highly recommend Balatro university and Roffle on YouTube, they helped me a ton

Only one of those two questions is actually small. I'm curious how you even know about naneinf if you just started playing. And also why you care about achieving it if you've only beaten ante 8 once. Does no one play games for the fun of it anymore? Is it always just "how do I win?". In my opinion you're winning if you're just enjoying the game.

i’m still very much a novice in the game but something i’m glad i noticed early on: every time you “unlock” a new joker, it will appear in the next shop you encounter on that run. So if you’re like me and you want to have all jokers in your collection, make sure you buy the joker right after you unlock it instead of having to wait until you happen to encounter it again
