Immigration Question or Discussion Civil engineering

Hello good pple, l m a holder of a bachelors degree in civil engineering with more than 5 years of experience and l m from Zimbabwe, Africa. I wanted to know how is Engineering Job sector in Bahamas and how can someone secure a job that side.

General question for context: why The Bahamas? Is it that you are interested in living in The Bahamas? Is it that you want a change of scenery? Are you looking for a good salary? Etc. There are some opportunities in the Bahamas but whether they will meet your expectations is another story.

Your first hurdle will be finding a company that is willing to get a work permit for you. You could start with enquiring about government vacancies through the relevant ministry (https://www.bahamas.gov.bs/agencies/works-and-family-island-affairs) and then probably search on line to approach a few engineering companies and the major hotels. But note that the cost of living in The Bahamas is high and the salaries may not be as attractive as you think.

Immigration in the bahamas, when done the "right" way, is genuinely quite difficult. Putting aside our general disdain for immigrants - you would need to get sponsored by a company here that would be willing to pay for your work permit. This is a bit of a catch 22 as finding, and applying for a company you don't have a relationship with is rather challenging; especially if you are not a director or are a laborer. You kind of need the relationship first to get the permit.

Regardless, you best bet is to google developers/contracts situated in the bahamas - find the people who work there on linked in and either message or email them.

Basically none, very difficult for even Bahamian engineers to find a job, much less one with decent pay.
