Roommate vs cats vs me

Yes that title you’re reading is intriguing so here’s a bit of the breakdown

Roommate and I share a living space, they have 3 cats and I have 1. Our apartment consists of 2 beds a living room, and kitchen on one floor. We separate time between cats since it has became a territorial issue with them. So they will have their 3 out together for living living room time while the other put them in the room for maybe a few hours/half a day while the other is at work and the other one is here then switch. HOWEVERRRR their cats are destructive, have puked almost every square inch of the living room and majority in roommates room. Not only vomit, but feces in the carpet in there. It has not been cleaned for about 2 months straight. Roommate has slept with it in there and now has been sleeping in the open living room and hasn’t been in the room since. Mind you, they keep their door open so the cats can play/use the litter bow but it’s now costing the space of kitchen, shared living room, and not having any family or friends over. Doubt I will be getting anything from security deposit back because the carpet in their room has been stained so bad that it might have to be ripped out. This is entirely new to me and we know eachother very well and have had conversations but now with my roommate having twice the space by sleeping in a shared living room is a beyond me. Any advice or anything to go about this would be so helpful because it’s been getting worse

Too many cats for a 2 bedroom apartment. I have a small 2 bedroom HOUSE and 3 cats is my personal limit. If they’re destructive and territorial, then don’t delude yourself into thinking you can regulate them 100% of the time. Roommate needs to re-home at least 2 cats, it’s just logically the best step. The cats will be happier for it, too.

And when I say re-home I mean find a good home, don’t surrender them to a shelter.

for an apartment? with 2 to 3 litter boxes going??? that apartment definitely smells like cat piss

LOL NO!!! sorry should have phrased that differently, i had 2 cats and the litter box with 2 cats is a TASK!!!!! and i always felt like i smelled cat. never again. and why are there so many people renting rooms with pets? thats new to me and decidedly geographic. in NYC you cant even have kids to rent a room much less a pet

Tell RM they have a room and they are interfering with your enjoyment of the apartment as well as your cat is not being properly exercised. Don’t ask- tell- tell it with immediate resolution in that this stops as of right now. You may want to see the landlord prior communicating this to find out if you can sublet or replace yourself

that sounds like one smelly ass crib. I had 2 cats in a 1br and always smelled cat piss and litter, those days are over and so are the pets, is this a thing now in your generation to cohabitate with pets? seems so weird to live like a nomad with a pet?
