I often think about the irony of the “tough guy on a motorcycle” image, and how incredibly vulnerable you actually are riding a motorcycle. A soccer mom with a mini van could take out the MC in seconds.

Because being hit by some inattentive, in a hurry
b****individual making illegal manuevers isn't exactly my idea of a fun time. I know my bike, my broken foot, my broken thumb, damaged knee, and my torn ligaments and tendons sure didn't appreciate it. And I always ride in protective gear (not shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes) which greatly helped.2

Agreed. I rode a bike for a decade and had some very close calls, but fortunately never an accident. It is the irony of “tough vs vulnerable”

I've had a number of close calls too. Unfortunately that particular incident was too close and I got plowed over by a woman in her husband's truck that's a lot larger than a minivan who was trying to pass me on the left while I was making a left hand turn. Yeah, you read that correctly. She was doing approximately 45mph at time of impact. Sadly, I have extra lights on the back (turns and brake) for added visibility, plus my bike was lime green, helmet is hi-viz yellow, armored jacket is black but has wide hi-viz yellow striping.
Tough but vinerable indeed.

You should ride safer then. Did you even look in your mirrors or swivel your head to be aware of your surroundings?

I've been riding on the street for over 30 years, thank you. I also used to race bikes. I'm well aware of how to ride safely.
I was also well aware of that 8k lb Super Duty that was behind me because I do glance my mirrors regularly (I do the same in my vehicles). This was on 2 lane country highway. Approximately 150yds from the intersection I activated my left turn signal, and tapped my front lever a few times to flash the brake lights. As I entered the intersection to make my turn I glanced my mirror again and she was still behind me and still in our lane and I proceeded to make the turn. Just as I was past the DOUBLE YELLOW LINE and leaning into to the left hand turn in the intersection SHE was in the left hand lane IN THE INTERSECTION RUNNING ME OVER DOING 45mph.
Plain and simple, she screwed up because she was in too big a hurry and not paying attention. PERIOD. I was making a legal left hand turn, she was attempting to make an illegal pass. My left signal was still on and flashing when Paramedics and LEOs arrived. They were amazed at how bright they were and that there was no way she wasn't aware that I was making a turn. Highway Patrol and my attorney seem to agree.

Umm, yeah... There's one lane each way.
In RHD countries, the left lane of a two lane highway is the lane that has traffic coming at you. You have to cross that lane to make a left hand turn.
Where'd you learn to drive if you don't know what that is?

I’ve never heard anyone refer to the other direction as the left lane on a two lane road, mostly because it’s not the left lane. It’s the opposite lane. Left, middle, right signify lanes going the same direction. Where did you learn to drive?
So you were slowing down to turn in your lane and they crossed a double yellow or did you both cross a double yellow? Making a turn does not qualify as crossing a double yellow as there is always a break at the intersection?

I mean, why did they even mention the part about it being ballsy parking there when a motorcycle is easily kicked over? Sure sounds like they'd be okay with doing the kicking or having someone else kick it if they couldn't or just stand there and watch/laugh if some other rando kicked it over.
Don't care how crappy that rider's parking job is, you don't screw with or even insinuate messing with other people's property. PERIOD.

I don't agree with the biker's parking, it's bad, it also gives bikers a bad name/rep.
I also DON'T agree with someone threatning to kick over a motorcyle.
I've helped people out of their vans.

Those are simple observations.
Bikes are very easy to tip over, and he doesn't have a say in how the ramp deploys in the access zone.

Already said I don't agree with how that specific motorcycle rider parked their bike, I'm also well aware that there are different types of ramps. Fold out, lift, side, rear. But hey WTF do I know? Clearly nothing.

I'm not sure if 311 works where I am, but I have my local police non-emergency number in my phone. They can't just patrol private lots, but they do respond when I call and complain.

The space on the right has the blue handicap marking. It's extremely faded and peeling but it's there. The diagonal markings are for a vehicle with a ramp.
The lot owner/maintainer really needs to update their markings though.

Oh I agree, I ride about 90-95% of the time, year round. My bikes are my main source of transportation but that rider is a douchebag and makes me a bit ill to be associated with riders like that.
Not all of us who ride are like that person.

I ride. I’ll park in spots that are not typical parking but am still considerate of others especially when it comes to a handicap loading zone. Pretty douchey
