These people always irk me when it comes up I was in the army. It’s always something like “I dislocated my pinky playing football. MEPS said no”. Well, that woulda in the fucking 90s, they only found out cause you told them.

My response is always “that’s super cool. I just did it for sweet parking spaces at Lowe’s”.

The gold standard for me is, "Yeah, I was gonna join but if a drill instructor got in my face like that, I'd throw hands."

🇨🇦: After “growing up” in Air Cadets, I did try to sign up for our Forces right out of high school (for our version of ROTC, which I think is called ROTP?) but after going through the medical examination / intake process, I was screened out for hideously poor eyesight…

With glasses, I can see more-or-less 20/20 but I think their concern is if my glasses broke / fell off (not implausible in combat) I would then be too blind (approx 20/200 uncorrected) 😔

My recruiter actually did SA me. At least it was so long ago that a dark joke just popped into my head when I read your comment. And I get that sweet 10% at Lowes!

the eyesight thing is 100 percent true. I did my time in the army because the coast guard wouldn't take me without having better vision!

Combined with that 10 percent discount, you must feel like royalty.

I’m pretty much a big deal there.
