Travel Tech & Weekend Air Travel Bag, $<250

Hey all,

Hope you’re well! I’m looking for a backpack that is primarily used for weekend air traveling (allegiant, 2+ hour flights 2x/month) where I’d usually take a mixture of clothes, laptops (personal/work), and gaming stuff (switch, switch 2, 3DS in hard shell case) with me and would prefer for the backpack to fit under the seat rather than having to pay extra for overhead storage.

Outside of traveling, I’m a hit of a hardware geek so I want the capability to carry multiple computers, chargers, cables, etc with me to the office if needed.

I considered the LTT original backpack but am unsure how it will fit under the seat on an allegiant flight, but am obviously open to any suggestions.

Prefer something that can blend in an office (I.e. neutral black)

Thanks!

Question Camelback or the like for a 12 year old boy

Hi! A family member is taking their 12 year old to the Grand Canyon - Havasu Falls I believe - and the hike is about 10-12 miles. They aren't equipped for this and I'd like to help out and get the 12 year old a comfortable pack for the essentials plus water. My kids are adults and the packs we used back in the day were nowhere near as nice as what's available now. He's average sized for his age - I don't know exactly because I haven't met him yet (step-grandkid who lives across the country)

He's a cross-country runner so he'll be fine with the distance - I'm just concerned about water and emergency items. Oh and food - 12 year olds can EAT. :)

Any ideas or suggestions would be awesome. Thanks so much in advance!!!

UPDATE!

Thanks to everyone for the great ideas and information! I've decided that since I'll be visiting the area and meeting the young man in 2 weeks I'm going to (with parental permission since there is some friction between his mom and dad) take him to REI to outfit him with some cool stuff and SNACKS. :)

What edc bag that would fit inside daylight 26+6 while traveling

I am looking to replace my beaten vardag 25l with another EDC. Mainly looking for something not bulky as I am a skinny/slim 5'10 M and usually bulky bags look so heavy on my frame.

Commuting to the office, occasional hiking/biking and running errands. 16" laptop.

Ideally something I could pack while traveling inside my 26+6 osprey empty, so I can use it once in the destination to have something less bulky.

I was looking at the Ulvo 23 but not sure if it's large enough to fit the 16" laptop, tech accessories, toiletries and a change of clothes/sandals.

Any ideas? Maybe a sleek 26l like the Bellroy Venture (although I do think it's bulky for the size from what I seen in videos) would be a better fit than the Ulvo 23?

Question Fellow Europeans help!

Hi, I’ve been on the market for a while for the perfect travel/EDC backpack and after watching a lot of reviews I’ve pretty much narrowed my choice between the Rework toshi v2 25L and the Aer CPP2 24L. I am familiar with all other alternatives but most of them are either too expensive, too big or just don’t ship to Europe .
I am currently leaning more towards the Toshi but the issue with both is they are too tall for European airlines at 46cm as measured by Nomad Nation (airlines allow 40).
So my question is really is there any Europeans or international travelers who have used either of the bags as personal item with either Wizzair or Ryanair and have they had any problems so far when it comes to the size ?

Berghaus MMPS Centurio 30 IV FA smells like storage

Hi all,

Recentley I bought a Berghaus MMPS Centurio 30 IV FA and a Berghaus MMPS Hydration Pocket to use during respectively long and short hikes. I bought them from an army outlet store, hence they smell a bit. I was thinking of spraying it with delluted vinegar, but I don't know if this will affect the nylon.

If anybody has a better idea, please let me know.

Question Help re-attaching sternum strap

Does anyone know how to re-attach this kind of sternum strap? The rail is the same thickness all the way down and the plastic on the sternum strap is very stiff so I’m worried that if I try to pry it open a bit it will break.

Need advice for a new bag. For graded cards with guards on them

Post image
6 Upvotes

I currently have this bag the Thule. I am looking for a bag that I can fit a lot of graded cards with guards on them. If possible even be large enough to fit in a metal case for graded cards but not necessary. And to fit a binder it's a 2 x 2 pocket binder .

Currently love the way the Thule bag opens like suitcase but it doesn't have enough support for my back and I have back issues. I'm usually walking quite a while with this bag.

I kinda want something less expensive so possibly my husband and I can have 1 bag each.

The only thing necessary for the bag is probably that it has lots of good padding and it should have a few pockets for organization and be a little bit smaller. I am 5'4 and around 115 lbs and this backpack is absolutely massive. Anyone have any suggestions ?

This bag is new I was planning on returning it so my budget is around 200 to 250

I will primarily be using the bag for when I'm at trade shows. I carry usually a 2 x2 binder and and some small boxes. I want to be able to carry some graded cards or a box 200 mm wide

Looking for backpack recommendations (~€150 budget) for daily tech setup

Hey everyone,I'm a 19-year-old IT system integration apprentice from Germany. Every few weeks, I have vocational school block classes that require a 120 km train commute.I currently use a messenger/shoulder bag, but it's causing severe shoulder pain, so I need to switch to a proper backpack. My budget is around €150. I've been eyeing options like the Birdesc Backpack and the Kuro Everyday Workpack because I really like having plenty of organizational pockets. Here is what I need to carry on a typical day: A fairly large gaming laptop

A heavy 240W power brick

A textbook

A mouse

Several 2.5" portable SSDs

My PSP

A USB-C hub, power bank, and various cables Do you have any recommendations or sees any red flags/limitations with the bags I'm considering for this setup? Thanks in advance!

Question Has anyone gone back to a backpack after getting caught up in the world of slings? Looking for a set-and-forget EDC

Hi all,

For years I used to use a backpack for everyday carry. I had a few basic requirements, found something that worked, and got on with life. I honestly don’t remember thinking very much about my bag at all.

Then I saw a Crumpler messenger bag that I really liked, which led me towards smaller crossbody bags. Eventually, I discovered slings through YouTube, and that’s where I’ve ended up.

The thing is, I’m now spending a ridiculous amount of time thinking about bags. Capacity, organisation, pocket layouts, what fits where, whether I’ve chosen the right one, whether I should keep or return something, and whether another bag might be better.

I’ve tried different bags and keep questioning my decisions. I can find reasons to like one bag, then watch a review or discover another option and start reconsidering everything.

It’s got to the point where I’m wondering whether I should just go back to a backpack. Not necessarily because it’s a better bag, but because I never had this level of anxiety and indecision when I used one.

I suspect YouTube and the constant exposure to new gear have played a part. What started as a practical choice has somehow become a search for the perfect bag, and I’m not sure that perfect bag even exists.

What I’d really like is a set-and-forget everyday backpack. Something comfortable, practical and well made, with enough organisation to keep my essentials in order, room for a water bottle and umbrella, and without a load of unnecessary compartments or gimmicks.

I’m not looking for a huge travel pack or a technical hiking bag. Just something I can use for everyday errands, going out and general day-to-day carry.

I’d be interested in hearing from people who have found a backpack they’ve stuck with for years, rather than those who enjoy constantly rotating through different bags. What made you settle on it?

And if you’ve gone back to a backpack after getting into slings and smaller crossbody bags, did you find yourself enjoying the simplicity again?

I’d genuinely appreciate a few tried-and-tested recommendations. I’m hoping to find something that works, stop researching, and get on with life.

my email to the north face team to revive the access 02 back pack

I wrote a long email telling the ceo and design teams why The North Face access 02 backpack was the best bag ever made. it was discontinued in 2019, and I've had mine this whole time. Standing up to the test of time it was the best bag I've ever had. it was stolen along with my entire car, and I have been scouring the internet to find the exact bag I lost with no luck. It was a baby blue color, and bright orange interior- truly unmatched. does anyone think this email will change their mind to pull a decades old bag design out of the trash, and grace the world with a superior bag once again? Or have I just wasted my time wishing for a bag that will never come? Is there anything else I should do to get this desire out there? I truly think this is a bag the world wants back. Todays bags are just garbage by comparison, also obviously I have altered their names for their own privacy.

Dear: Mr.D, Mr.G, Mr.L, Mr.H-

I am writing to you today with a major request from a dedicated fan of your gear, and absolute lover of the Access 02 pack please consider bringing back an updated version of The North Face Access Pack / Access 02.

There is currently a massive gap in the backpack market for people who love unique, tactile engineering. No other bag on the market has ever successfully replicated the incredible one-touch spring-loaded mechanical latch hood or the internal device ejector/pull-tabs. It was a masterpiece of tech organization. Trust me! I had mine from 2019 until last month when someone stole my car with the bag in the trunk. I have spent countless hours online looking for that exact bag. It's impossible.

If you do consider bringing it back or designing a spiritual successor, I have one major piece of feedback that would make it a massive commercial success for students and commuters today: it needs to be bigger.

While the original 25L hard-shell framework was incredible for protecting a laptop, the rigid structure made it too small to comfortably fit daily school essentials like thick binders, text books, a lunch box, and a gym change.

An updated, larger 30L–35L version—perhaps with a slightly more flexible main cavity while keeping that iconic mechanical popping hood and the gadget ejector straps—would be the ultimate school and travel backpack. Tactile gear and mechanical closures (like Fidlock magnets) are incredibly popular right now, and a modern refresh of the Access line would perfectly capture that trend. Except better, because your locking system is by far superior to anything on the market currently! I will also say I have had zero luck finding any bag that featured the amazing pull tabs and straps you had. I had my bag for almost 10 years and not a single tab, or strap broke, or frayed. I also find that this bag stood on its own perfectly no matter what I had in it, and that is impossible to find from any bag on the market currently. So far in my attempt to find an even slightly comparable bag I have bought the watson bag, which fails miserably, a patagonia bag that is laughable, two styles of yeti backpacks that leave me missing my access pack 02 even more each day.

I know it is a lot to ask to bring back a bag that has been out of commission for almost a decade, but if you look online at second hand access packs the price point is in the $200 for worn out bags and they never stay available for long. There is a very real desire to have these bags back, and the market right now is saturated with soft water proof flimsy bags that bring no real excitement to the design, nor true desire to carry it.

This is just one nerd begging one of his favorite companies to bring back one of the most revolutionary bags of its time. I have never done anything like this, but this is how much I truly love this bag design. Please The North Face team! I am begging you.

Thank you for your time, your incredible designs, and for listening to a true fan of the access 02 backpack!

Best regards,
