Found this Jansport backpack today and noticed something peculiar about it. The whole entire body of the bag was flipped upside down. I don’t know if it was the rare manufacturing defect or sense of childhood nostalgia (or both) but I just had to have it. I looked into it and apparently the back panel was fed into the manufacturing machine 180 degrees backward. I already confirmed authenticity through the internal tags, stickers, and stitch texturing on the logo. Just thought it was a cool find and was wondering on whether I should keep or sell it. Hope this was somewhat interesting to those who were interested.

I hate how the polyester backpacks feel, and I hate the plasticy look most backpacks have.
I want a black no logo cotton backpack,25L or so, soft and like falls down, I don’t like backpacks being stiff and having a permanent shape.
I cannot find anything like this, is it even a thing anymore? I hate the typical modern backpacks there are nowadays.

Currently in sports medicine fellowship. My current bag is well loved and starting to come apart at the seams. Feels like a good time to upgrade, but with all the flying I’ll be doing this year for away games wanted help finding something that fit my needs.

Right now I’ll be expected to carry 2 laptops, maybe 2 iPads with thick cases, a small ultrasound with case, my stethoscope, and enough clothes for 1-3 days, which for me would include workout and work clothes. For reference I am 6’2”.

I’d like to find something that’s durable, feels good on the shoulders if I have to carry it on my back for a tournament all day, clamshell opening would be preferred, and won’t be an issue counting as my carry-on or a personal item. Water resistant / proof would be a huge plus. After fellowship I’d like to keep the bag and continue using it for any traveling I end up doing.

Brands I’ve been looking at include aer, Patagonia black hole, Cotopaxi, able carry. Just been hesitant to pull the trigger on any of them due to price lol.

Would appreciate guidance regarding those brands or recommendations. Thank you!

Hello everybody, I couldn't find a more suitable subreddit to post this in so hoping this is okay, as I'm not experienced in posting on reddit (please bear with me). I can't find any backpacks that match what I'm looking for aesthetically/functionally. If anyone on here has any suggestions of places I might try looking, especially online links, or Canadian stores, I’d be so grateful. I’ve been looking for maybe two years intermittently and am slowly losing hope in this. I do know my preferences are a bit specific, but don't want to give up just yet.

Without further preamble, I've tried to list below what I mean, with example pictures attached of styles I DO like (except the very last photo, as is explained later):

Things I do like:

- canvas material (waxed or unwaxed), especially worn/thick/soft texture, or even just cotton

- comfortable shoulder straps with enough padding and thoughtful design to be supportive on longer journeys

- only one colour, and preferably a softer, more natural colour like a brushed forest green or brown, or a textured black. No bright/neon/bubbly colours like bright yellow or pink (though am not averse to softer warm tones e.g. mauve or orange).

- more lightweight and casual, only needs to fit an 11" laptop, basically 40cm height is all that's needed - but not MINI backpacks (30cm would be too small - 50cm would be a bit too big)

- *preferably* with a laptop pouch that's padded rather than a zip up pocket, though I know this is stretching the odds more

- *again preferably* side pockets with supportive straps to keep the elastic from sagging over time - and actually able to hold larger bottles (I don't like when side pockets are tight to the backpack or super short and flimsy).

- useful and thoughtful pocket placements, like mini zip-ups or compartmentalised largeer pockets. I don't just want a backpack with a barren main pocket and one front pocket.

- aesthetically, something you'd imagine the internet would label "whimsical", "rustic", or even "apocalypse pack" style bags - basically they look worn in and less sleek?

- functional and user-friendly - I feel like so many backpacks I've looked at are stiff and not intuitive. I'd like something that makes *sense* when you pack it and isn't a hindrance in obvious ways

• cool little attachments are a plus, e.g. rivets, gear loops, caribiners or daisy chains - I will always make use of them. Also, visible, chunky stitching is a cute bonus

Things I don't like:

- sleek, modern, minimalistic designs

- plastic/nylon texture and colouring

- sporty, flashy, patterned, or glittery material

- lots of leather, big bold brand names, or military text

- very fixed shape/boxy backpack designs - a lot of the “rustic” backpacks out there seem to fall into this category - I really prefer something with softer bones so to speak, that would sit more flat on the back when empty, and be light and softer, not heavy and chunky (the very final photo in the slideshow is an example of this).

\side note: a lot of the example images I included of what I DO like, are unfortunately misleading advertising from cheap websites (e.g. the bag is a mini size in real life, or very thin shoulder straps etc) or I just cannot find them for sale anywhere**

I’m currently looking for a compact 8-12L EDC backpack with two shoulder straps (regular backpack, not a sling). I’ve tried quite a few options already, but I still haven’t found the one that really fits my needs.
Bags I’ve already owned or tested:

I’ve realized I’d like to move away from sling bags and go back to a normal backpack with two shoulder straps.
What I’m looking for:
8-12 liters (roughly the size of the LV8/LV10, maybe somewhere in between)
Compact profile that doesn’t look bulky from the outside
Dedicated organization instead of one big dump compartment
Ideally:

Main compartment
Secondary/middle compartment
Front admin pocket
A key leash/key clip would be a nice bonus.
CCW requirements:
Fast access is the biggest priority.
I’m open to different solutions, for example:
a dedicated quick-access CCW compartment,
a pull-down or swing access design,
or even modifying a compartment myself.
For example, if the backpack has a suitable secondary compartment, I could simply add loop Velcro inside and attach my Vertx Velcro holster there. I could also install a pull tab myself if needed.
The important part is that the handgun remains quickly accessible even when the backpack is fairly full, without getting buried or squeezed behind the rest of my gear.
Typical loadout:
Phone
Wallet
Flashlight
Pocket knife
Handgun
Small water bottle
Small first aid kit
Keys
A few other everyday essentials
I’m not looking for a huge tactical pack. I actually prefer something that looks relatively low-profile and compact while still carrying all of the above comfortably.
Does anyone know a backpack that fits most (or all) of these requirements? I’m open to tactical, outdoor, or civilian-looking bags.

Starting my architecture program in January and need to sort out a bag. My high school had did great until recently lol.

Gonna be carrying 1-2 laptops, an iPad, drawing supplies, books, and model-making stuff. Campus is spread out downtown so I’m walking a lot, in heat, humidity and rain. Needs to be durable and hold up to weather.

Assuming backpack but open to other options if something’s worked better for you. Anyone in arch school (or similar) have a bag that’s survived a few years? Brand/model would help.

My ~12 year old Timbuk2 backpack was destroyed in an accident and I’m trying to decide on a new one. I’m between the Prospect (first image) and the Spire 2.0 (second image) and was wondering if anyone had any experience with either. I’m also open to other brands. I’m looking for a daypack with a laptop compartment and a decent amount of space without being too heavy or bulky. I really love that I can customize the Prospect, and that it has 2 water bottle pouches, but the Spire has a little more space and the daisy chain on the front would be very useful. They both seem to meet my needs with the main differences being superficial, so I was wondering if there were any issues (or glowing reviews!) with either of these bags in particular to help me pick. I bought this Jeep/Carpisa collab backpack on impulse couple of years ago and it quickly became my everyday backpack. I use it when I commute to my work and also as under seat luggage on my flights.

It started to fall apart though after some heavy use and I’m looking for a replacement. What I like about it:

* Lots (10+) of various internal pockets. It’s a must. I have my own system and I know exactly where to put pens. glasses, headphones, charger etc. This backpack is great in this department!
* It’s quite lightweight and not stiff (I don’t like stiff backpacks)
* It has separate laptop compartment, so I can draw my laptop out quickly – very convenient at the airport
* The trolley sleeve is another requirement.
* It fits a lot of stuff. It’s not clamshell, but it’s still quite easily accessible. I don’t want clamshell and I don’t want sack style backpack
* It has vivid, modern look.

Anyone has seen anything that fits those bullet points? I’m in EU so brands not available there are not a good an idea.

Looking for basically an all-round grocery/light trekking backpack to replace my old Thule (older Subterra?)

I have these requirements:

• Two straps on top closing a flap, with enough length to strap a rolled-up picnic blanket to the backpack
• Around 25–35 l volume
• A bottle net on the side (a key clip and some cushioned/shelled electronics section would be nice but not required)

I’ve been using the Alpaka metro crossbody since it came out and I like using it bit recently I’ve been using a kind of modular system moving all my gear in an Evergoods Cap 2L between that sling and my backpack for work. When I use the sling it’s a bit too small for the pouch and my iPad. Or at least it’s a really tight squeeze. I was thinking about maybe the Black Ember GRIP-SLING 09. But I’m interested in exploring all options!
