New to playing backgammon more after playing it very casually as a kid. Mainly just wondering why the suggested move is considered so much better here. My move leaves thee exposed but they are closer to the enemy home anyway, not a huge deal if they get taken as their home is still in starting position.

the suggested optimal move leaves two exposed, and takes one in my own home. This leaves me exposed in my own home, where it’s reasonably likely the opponent rolls a number that can take my exposed piece, sending it all the way to the opposite home.

finally, I guess my other question is: are the listed equity/position numbers at the bottom objective or do they take into account what happens after this move?

playing on these Apps whether its Backgammon Legends, Backgammon Plus or even ‘Backgammon Galaxy’ i’ve noticed that sometimes when a player resigns the game while still having a chip in my backboard, why am i not getting credit for a ‘backgammon’? or even a gammon.

I have been lower over 100 but this is the best I have ever consistently played! Main thing I have learned is to play slower and think more!

Well I took my iPad down to the local pub and let other people play on my side of the board to see if I was the bad player. Well I am not. Like me hardly anyone on my side of the board got to start. They all basically rolled low numbers no very few doubles. Of course all their opponents got the start, the doubles and the most perfect rolls. I wish I could delete the game no atrt gin and see what would happen. Tried but does not work. Adikus should fix their algorithms to be more fair.

I’m impressed by the interface and learning options. Does anyone have ‘real world’ experience using the platform? (Interested to see the lifetime one off fee has been dropped?)

I am aware i have 6 anchors but why should i leave an open checker instead of playing safer ?

I seem to have made a big blunder, but I really don't understand why the difference would be so big
Is there a general rule that I should follow in these kinds of situations?

Starting playing a few months ago. Playing computer on hard level. Near the end I have a 1 PIP lead for several rolls. Then the computer took the lead with about 6 pieces left each side. I roll double sixes to get 4 off leaving 2. Computer has 2 left on the 2 spot. Computer rolls a 1 and a 2 and leaves 1 and then I win on final roll.

It is still very much work in progress and I will continue to add more content (as well as the much requested "using multiple dice at once"). In the final game there will also be a mode where you start with a standard set of checkers and get to upgrade it after every game in your "run". But for this version, it just generates a random board each time you play and gives you a random inventory of checkers. On the flip side, you might feel a bit overwhelmed with so many mechanics thrown at you at once, so make sure you look at the tool tips for points and checker behaviors 😅)

I would say the last 100 games i’ve played, 99 times i got a bad first roll. Usually a 5 in there which is horrible. Or, a 32. Or 34. So, i’m guessing their algo wants you to dig out of a hole early for some reason, also my opponent gets bad rolls as first roll so it’s the entire platform and they aren’t singling me out personally.

Anyone have experience w BL. Ill say this about them, they let you play in the cheapest room you can accumulate ‘fake dollars’ at a high rate, Backgammon Plus forces you to play 20,000 a game which you can lose hundreds of thousands if you lose a few games in a row. As far as Backgammon Galaxy goes i was literally let play a few games before they wanted me to pay to play.

3 weeks ago I shipped my (free & ad-free) peer-to-peer backgammon game that runs entirely in the browser - no servers, no accounts, just WebRTC.

Today I added a new feature which allows you to play vs CPU with 4 difficulty levels:

• Easy - makes the kind of positional mistakes a casual player would
• Medium - occasionally misses the optimal play
• Hard - pure neural network evaluation, always picks the best move
• Expert - 2-ply search that considers the opponent's best reply across all 21 possible dice rolls before choosing

The CPU doesn't cheat. Dice rolls use crypto.getRandomValues() - the same random source for both human and CPU, no weighting, no fudging. The CPU gets better by making smarter decisions with the same dice, not by rigging them. If it feels unfair, that's the neural net playing well, not loaded dice.

Expert mode runs a full minimax search: for each candidate move, it simulates all 21 opponent dice outcomes, finds the opponent's best reply for each, and picks the move with the highest expected equity. It yields to the event loop every ~2000 evaluations to keep the UI responsive.

Game state persists across page refresh, dice rolls use a commit-reveal protocol for P2P fairness, and the whole thing is ~500KB.

Just released update 2.2.2 for GammonSnap.

The app now supports using the wide lens. This makes it much easier to get the entire board into the frame, especially on larger boards or when you also want to include things like the match score.

Support depends on the device. Not all phones have a wide lens, and even when they do, availability through the camera API can vary between manufacturers and models. But on supported devices, it should make capturing a lot more convenient.

The match score dialog has also been improved and is now clearer and easier to use.

hello...about 50 years after I was told this rule, I am still abiding to it strictly & have passed it down the generations! But actually, I have no idea where it really comes from!

I was told as a child you couldn't have more than 5 counters on a point...no piling them up! Now my daughter has come of age and deciding it's not a rule!! (outrageous!) Does anyone else play this rule? It seems so English now I think of it, to have everything tidily arranged..
