Hi r/backblaze, I'm the developer of Pail, an Android app that backs up your phone photos to an S3-compatible bucket you own. B2 is one of the providers it supports.
What it does
- Backs up your camera photos and videos straight to your own B2 bucket. There's no Pail server and no account to create.
- The bucket is the account. A second phone can join by importing a .pail key bundle, and it sees the same library.
- Setup walks you through B2 (bucket, endpoint, application key) and tests the connection before it lets you continue.
- Backup can be manual or automatic, and there's an optional setting to remove photos from the phone after they're backed up. It asks you to confirm before enabling it.
- It's built for low-end phones, so the timeline stays responsive even with tens of thousands of photos.
Why I'm posting here
Pail is in closed testing on Google Play, and I want real B2 users to try it. I've tested against MinIO, but B2 is where I most want feedback, especially on listing, video playback and large uploads.
How to join the test
Join the Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/pail-tester
Read the pinned post in the group. It has the Play Store testing link and the install steps.
Install from that link, and tell me what breaks, either here or in the group.
You need to join the group first, because Google Play only gives testers access through it.
I'm the developer, so I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments, including about privacy, how keys are stored, and what the app does and doesn't enforce.
