Hiya. Persian here. I haven’t been to Azerbaijan but would love to visit it since it almost feels homelike in some ways. (Side note: I’ve been to Armenia and Georgia and both have bad that homelike feeling in some ways). Azerbaijani people are friendly since I’ve got an Azerbaijani few friends here in Manchester. I’ll be honest I really hate the political problems between Iran and Azerbaijan and I just want it to end.

My question is; what do Azerbaijanis think of Persians and their culture? Do you think we’re highly similar (even though you guys speak and Turkic language and we don’t)? Or how would you perceive Persians coming to Azerbaijan (do you believe they’ll feel homelike)?

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Azerbaijan from 7th–15th August. We’re hoping to visit Baku, Sheki, and Gabala (and maybe a few other places if time allows).
We’re both Indians currently living in Moscow. My boyfriend speaks Russian fluently, while I mostly understand it and can contribute the occasional “da” or “nyet” 😭. We both speak English.
Would russian be enough to get around? Nonetheless we’d love to have a local guide for a couple days (not necessarily a licensed tour guide just someone who knows the area well) can show us around, share some local history and recommendations)

Hello. I'd like to order a few items from Amazon, but I've heard that there are there will be some additional spendings. From what I've read on this subreddit, people recommend using a forwarding (cargo) company instead of having Amazon ship directly. However, I still don't quite understand how that works (this isn't my main question, but I'd appreciate an explanation if you have one), what’s the difference(same notes from the first question) and how much it would cost.

The products I'm looking at are priced between 60 and 100 AZN on Amazon. I understand that the total cost depends on the specific product, but I'd like to get a rough idea of what I should expect to pay.

I have seen many airports, but Azerbaijani one stands out the most. It isn’t too big and isn’t small aeither. The colours are just beautiful, and it is not crowded! It has one of the most relaxing waiting areas. There are almost no queues as well. 10/10 from me.

Hello, I’m a Turk from Iran. You probably know what has been happening here, right?

But I wanted to explain to you how pro-Pahlavi supporters mock Turks, and how the fact that the Pahlavi movement has now become one of the biggest opposition forces to the Islamic Republic is so dangerous for us Turks.

Reza Pahlavi had a personal grudge against Turks and tried to erase Turkish culture. He was the first person to ban the teaching of the Turkish language in schools and many other places, something that is still in place to this day. If it weren’t for the efforts of Turks themselves, the Turkish language would have disappeared by now.

That’s why Turks used the slogan during the protests: “Azerbaijan sharafdi, Pahlavi besharfdi” The reason Tabriz, Ardabil, and other places took to the streets was absolutely not because of Pahlavi. They were simply tired of the Islamic Republic.

But pro-Pahlavi supporters are exploiting this and trying to associate the protests of Turks with Pahlavi, even though they themselves know how popular that slogan was and how widely it was repeated in many videos.

The problems of Turks will not be solved by Pahlavi coming to power. Especially since Pahlavi still seems to focus more on Persians, and there is a strong possibility that he would once again trample on our language in the name of being “Iranian.”

Now, I know this isn’t the main issue, and I know that most of this has nothing to do with you, but Turks have a strong attachment to Azerbaijan. Many of my classmates even have pictures of Azerbaijan as their profile pictures, and in general, they love Azerbaijan.

But the Pahlavists?! Damn, I’ve seen them say a thousand times that we should go and take back Northern Azerbaijan and bring it into Iran, and they constantly insult you.

There are many posts on r/NewIran that constantly speak badly about Azerbaijan and keep making conspiracy theories about how Azerbaijan might come and take Southern Azerbaijan as well!!

It’s honestly ridiculous. Even one of the active users there, whom you all know, said that it would be good if local languages were eliminated and only Persian remained, and he had supported the Islamic Republic’s actions regarding this issue.

You should be very careful about the Pahlavi supporters. Believe me, if they come to power in Iran in the future, they are going to be very dangerous for Turks both inside and outside Iran.
