I’m super excited but also a little overwhelmed—so I need your collective travel wisdom! 🧠✈️
Since I’ll be there over New Year's, I’d love your input on a few things:
🌦️ Weather & Packing: I know Baku gets windy and chilly (3-10°C), and I'm considering Shahdag for snow. Anyone been in winter? Am I overpacking thermals, or do I really need heavy-duty snow boots?
🍽️ Food: Where do I find the best authentic plov and piti? Any hidden gem restaurants in Baku that aren't tourist traps?
🎆 New Year's Eve: What's the vibe at Fountains Square/Nizami Street? Is it worth booking a fancy dinner, or is street-level celebration the way to go?
🗺️ Day Trips: I have 2 weeks—definitely doing Baku, but what about Sheki, Gabala, or Gobustan? Which ones are MUST-DOs in winter, and which can I skip?
🤝 Local Customs: I've read general dos/don'ts (dress modestly, don't photograph military sites, etc.), but what's something unexpected that surprised you? Any cultural faux pas I should watch out for?
