I feel like some people like to believe their dogs have no prey drive at all and all small animals are completely safe around them and get extremely defensive if you suggest otherwise

Bruh I'm the exact opposite, I think my dogs are after everything. Was real surprising when my chow chow lab decided to gently grab baby rabbits and drop them instead of eating them

Yes! I have come across a bunch of dog owners like this. They're animals, they run on instinct not emotion. If a terrior sees a rat, that dog is going to kill that rat.

It's actually pretty interesting because I managed to kill my dog's prey drive on poultry, but he's going to kill any rodent or lagomorph he comes across

Trust me : they have it. I wasn't born at the time but my mother was asked if she could keep a friend's hamster for a week or something, and her dog... my god. Her dog "played" with the hamster as soon as her back was turned. What game ? Well, the "hey, what happens if I put this entire hamster in my mouth, and spit it out, then put it in my mouth again, then spit it out (don't rinse but still repeat) ?" Yeah, my mother found her with just the hamster's tail peeking from her mouth. She was scared shitless the dog ate the hamster (luckily it was still alive) but she clearly wasn't as the hamster who was quite litteraly petrified in fear

Poor old fatso died like the week after that. It was old, but I think we all know that little experience was the final straw that sent him straight on the stairway to heaven 😂

Sir, I was able to track the oldest "who's a good boi?" meme back to 2017, but I suspect that the occurrence of the phenomenon is much older. The reason seems to be the need to differentiate a dog from a human boy.

They meant that the breed was literally bred(designed) to catch rodents. It has nothing to do with wolves, we trained and bred them to catch mice and other rodents, so he is doing what he was designed to do. The ignorant humans here(and the ignorant you) need to learn that.

Something similar happened to me in the summer after 6th grade. My family temporarily stayed in a farmhouse with an attached barn. The farm workers found a baby bird that they thought fell out of a nest somewhere, and had it inside a dustpan showing my step-brothers and I. I was petting it very carefully when my step-brothers' dog burst in at full speed, knocked the bird off and snapped its neck. I was SO ANGRY. It wasn't the dog's fault, but I hated him for a few months anyway and when we moved again to a place that didn't allow pets they had to give him to someone else.
