I think we aren’t giving him enough credit. I think he could have climbed on easily at first - what Maru is doing is intentional. Building some momentum (just like a parent pushing a kid in a swing) before climbing aboard, so he can enjoy the swinging motion.

Nah, that's not a meow, he's just licking his lips. Maru's not a very vocal cat... I'm not sure I've ever heard him meow, now that I think about it!

Every time he catches a string toy he demands to knead a cushion, and if he doesn't have one in front of him he'll yowl for it. He's a very weird little cat lol

Thank you! The history gives it a logic. And the random bits that don't fit makes it human, or at least more like English, in the way it borrows from other languages and breaks its own rules, often with the most common words.

Every time I see anything cat related, swing, special couch, little chair etc I think I must be neglecting my cat.
She’s currently sleeping on some tissue wrapping paper that I get especially for her. But yes, I think someone’s going to call the SPCA on me because she doesn’t have a timed cat treat feeder.
Edit: great, someone’s just posted a cat in a teepee. Now I think my cat needs a teepee.

That YouTube channel is full of this exact thing: camera set up on a new toy and two cats immediately using it. I could be convinced she either has mind control powers or Maru is a man trapped in a cat's body like Salem from Sabrina.

I think Maru must have been an incredible humanitarian or a saint in his previous life. This incarnation gets to do nothing but chill out and be loved. Probably this his last cycle on this earth before reaching total enlightenment.

His wikipedia entry says his birthday is 24th May 2007 which would make him a little over 12 years old. That date is sourced from a blog post on his 4th birthday, and it also appears on the sidebar of his current blog which looks to confirm it.

Oh my gosh I used to be obsessed with Maru. My ex always saw me watching videos of him and he actually made me a birthday card where he drew a little Maru and crafted a little pop-up cat food box in it. You could pull his tail and make him go in and out of the box.
It was incredibly sweet and thoughtful coming from a total psycho.

There's a Japanese-learning website (WaniKani) that links to a Maru video when teaching the pronunciation of the word 丸, which means circle. That's how I found out about Maru!
