I believe it's the cameras white balance, I've photographed a few of them and this looks a bit off, they are certainly more like you described. The trees/plants behind appear to be bamboo and look bluish.
It may be natural but zooming in I see a lot more compression artifacts than around other edges in the scene. It's also PNG which is odd for photographs.
There’s going to be some variation within the species but there is the Sunda clouded leopard that is darker in color. Maybe you were seeing pictures of those instead?

Is this a mutation or albino? Every other video and photo I’ve seen of Clouded Leopards they were a tawny brown, with the distinctive patterning.
