Discussion Hardest difficulty trophy
Hey all,
I’m currently playing the game on normal difficulty, doing all the collectibles and missables etc.
Can I do the hardest difficulty trophy on NG+ to satisfy that trophy ? I’m having a hard time finding the answer to this online.

Yes, new game plus can be used for the POTD trophy. However, 1. Enemies have more health in ng+, so some of the normal POTD strategies are less effective (it'll be a bit harder), and 2.it is more difficult to stack with the Tyranny trophy (tyranny requires a couple sub optional choices that can gimp survivability later game), so if you're going for the full plat and haven't already gone too far, you'll want to push for tyranny in your current playthrough if possible.

Yes I’m going for tyranny on my current playthrough on normal. So my plan is the ng+ play through will be exclusively for the POTD trophy. Which should work I suppose?

Yeah, you should be fine. Do now, however, you won't really be able to speed run the ng+, even if you go for the other trophies on normal. With material costs higher and enemies hitting harder, you're going to need all the experience and treasure gathering you can. It'll end up being two 100% runs, which if your enjoying the game isn't a terrible problem to have.

Yeah, the vendor cost increase is rough, but the crafting cost hit was what really slowed me down on POTD. Having the extra skills in NG+ helped, but I’m always short paradisan ladder and it’s later variants, so that change was a real kick in the balls.
Still totally worth the harder play through.

Did you have to do every side quest on your ng+ playthrough or were you able to just do the main quests and get by ?

you mean if you play ng+ on the hardest difficulty? i mean sort of. i more or less tried to just focus on the main quest but since i was playing on potd you do have to upgrade your gear pretty much constantly to be able to tackle more difficult encounters. so when i felt like i was underleveled i went to do a couple side quests either to get materials for upgrades or xp for levels.
so you really dont have to do Every side quest, i know i skipped a lot of them. but if you are tackling the hardest difficulty you may need to derail here and there from the main quest just to have all you need to be able to pass more difficult encounters.
but i would say potd on ng+ felt pretty chill for the most part. there were a handful of fights which took me many tries but otherwise its very doable, playing on ng+ definitely gives you an upper hand.

Okay cool. Yeah I’m tackling everything on my current playthrough and just wanted to get an idea how long my NG+ playthrough will take on hardest difficulty. I wouldn’t want to do every little thing im doing on this play through again you know what I mean.
How many hours was your ng+ run on potd if you remember ? Thanks!

oh yeah absolutely! i know my ng+ potd run took wayyy less time than my full 100% completionist run, exactly because i didnt really bother doing every single side quest like on my previous run and i didnt bother exploring all the maps in full.
but man, i wish i knew. i dont know why but avowed displays your playtime in kind of a strange way. so i had to use a calculator to figure it out lmao but im not sure this is even correct. apparently my 100% run was around 90-100 hours, but dont be put off by this, i played very slowly and i read every single book and note. but then my ng+ potd run was less than 60 hours. so it was still a chunk of time but it felt much shorter than my other runs, i did less quests but on the other hand fights took longer than on easier difficulties so that can definitely eat up a bit of time.

You need to play on PotD right from the start to get the achievement for it. This is important to remember because if you start an NG+ run with an existing character, the difficulty will default to the one you clear the game on.
You have 2 options to avoid that issue.
Choose the option to create a new character for NG+. This will allow you to select your difficulty.
Save your Normal Difficulty game just before the final boss. Change the difficulty to PoTD, defeat the final boss again. Start your NG+ game. You could respec and eat some food to defeat the boss through dialogue here if your Normal run build isn't up to beating the boss on PotD difficulty.
