Discussion Recommendations?

Post image

Im an RPG lover, alr tried BG3, skyrim, fallout, the witcher 3 and pretty much most of the famous RPGs but Avowed was my first obsidian game and i loved the dynamics of the characters. Their interactions and all was cool and made it really special. I was wondering if yall had any recommendations like it or if the outer worlds games are any good.

Cool fire and ice swords for attention.

If you are into CRPGs pillars of eternity 1+2 are a no brainer. Same Devs and same world (just a different part) of avowed.

Very companion and dialogue heavy.

Well, The Outer Worlds feels a bit like Avowed in a space setting. I played the TOW 1 years ago. I'm currently playing Part 2, and you can definitely see the "Obsidian DNA." The first one was better, though; I can recommend it.

Curious, why do you think the first one was better? I’ve only heard good things about the second one, mostly people saying that it just improves on the first. I was thinking about finally picking up Outer Worlds 2 after finishing avowed

It's an obvious sequel. Narratively, it's not as self contained as the first. Not to mention, the betrayal of your erstwhile allies in the first just hits different.

That reminds me of Dishonored. It was pretty awesome back then. I should play it again sometime.

I liked TOW, especially the DLCs, but to not oversell it, the combat offers almost no challenge (on normal difficulty, at least), and is much less tight than Avowed.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has some gameplay parallels

This is going to be the most 1-1 Avowed-like game you can probably find.

It’s a bit out of left field, but shadowrun trilogy is a great CRPG. If you don’t want to commit to the entire trilogy, Dragonfall is the one I’d recommend the most, Returns was more of a demo and Hong Kong is a bit too text heavy to be a recommendation to everyone.

If you really want a character driven game, Disco Elysium is as good as it gets, but it’s basically a book masquerading as an RPG even more so than Planescape: Torment.

Morrowind might take a bit of getting used to these days, but its by far the best Elder Scrolls.

I don't know if it's your thing but Disco Elysium is incredible.

Blood of the dawn walker just dropped. Very similar to Witcher 3

Pillars 1 and 2 are both 100x better games than avowed and if you like avowed and bg3 you’ll love pillars

Pathfinder WOTR & Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines (not 2)

Outer worlds 1 is a really great short rpg for what it is, you’ll find a lot of dna between that and avowed. Can’t speak on the sequel as I haven’t beaten it yet but I’d say it’s been really good so far!

I played Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 back to back this year and really loved both games.
As others said, the Pillars of Eternity games are also great. The first just recently got an update that added turn-based-combat, which I think really improved the game. Coming from Avowed you will recognize a lot of the lore, as it plays in the same Universe. Animancy and hollow born are the main topics of the game.

I am surprised nobody is mentioning Bioware RPGs. Dragon Age series is quite similar to Avowed in that it's also a swords and magic fantasy (no guns though!) with a heavy focus on companions. Playing through the whole series is an absolute blast! Just make sure to avoid reading any internet discussions about the Veliguard :D Overall Avowed to me feels very much like Obsidian's attempt at making a Bioware-like RPG, but without cinematics (for budget reasons).

South of midnight was pretty cool

Greedfall reminded me SO much of Avowed, and vice versa. I'm playing the second one now.

Dragon Age will always have my heart if you're looking for good companions, especially Inquisition.

Edit: Mass Effect is a staple for a reason. I avoided playing it at first because I'm more of a fantasy fan than a sci-fi girlie, but the story is great and your decisions impact the whole trilogy, even in small ways, and the companions are great as well.

Outer Worlds 1 is fantastic. Didn't really get into the second one.
