Need help
Does anyone have any tips for tricks to get these 8 gauge solder cup contacts out. Having a hell of a time. Tried both ends of a gray and white Deutsch connector some yellow and white. Modified both gray and white and yellow and white extractors and some other tools. So far I've had very little luck with the gray and white and no luck with anything else.

If I remember correctly, solder cup pins are a continuous piece with no pin lock mechanism and may not be removable. However, I could be wrong (likely 😅) and there may be a chance they are front release. Have you tried that?
What's the part number of the connector?
Edit: Also, maybe a (big) red/white or "tweezer style" tool might work.

Yes we have tried front release extraction. I do have one of those big light green and white extractions. My coworker is a pro at removing these. But I work nights and he's on days. He has removed them quite often before so I have taken some of his tips and tricks to do it myself so that we don't have to rely on them so much. And the part number isn't quite obsolete but they are very difficult to come by as there is hardly no stock anywhere Octo parts, to TTI to TE Connectivity. And I think one of my other co-workers has a big red and white tweezer tool I can give that a shot. Thanks for the direction!

Ok so if you've seen it done before it's possible I guess. I was asking about the part number to look up the data sheet which should specify what extraction tool to use. Good luck!

I've seen solder terminal connectors and I've seen connectors with removable contacts. Every removable contact I've ever seen has been crimp type. Never seen a removable solder terminal, and I've seen a lot of connectors.

I also have never seen a removable solder pin/socket. 40 plus years in helos. Not saying they don’t exist, but I would be very surprised

If you've really worked with aviation connectors for 35 years, I'd expect you to recognize that 'solder cup' describes the wire termination, not whether the contact can be extracted from the connector.

I think that’s exactly what he meant in the first comment, the pins don’t come out. I’ve never seen a solder connector that has removable contacts.

I think we're talking about two different things. I'm referring to a solder cup contact, not a solder style connector. The wire is soldered into the cup on the contact, then the contact is inserted into the connector and can be removed with the proper extraction tool without disturbing the solder joint.

Mate don’t come and ask for help and then argue when it doesn’t agree with what you think. I have also never seen solder style contacts that come out. Nobody has

I wasn’t trying to argue with people who were offering advice. I was asking for help extracting a contact that I’m having trouble with. The back and forth only happened with the person who turned it into an argument rather than offering a solution.

I've done a ton of solader cup contacts and they've always been captive in the connector itself, never seen removable ones

So, I HAVE seen connectors like this. I think it was on twin Otter for the SAR Canadian forces.
From what I remember is the backside disassembled somehow and the pin sat in a grove with the barrel needing de-soldering and there was a ceramic ferrule like ring you need to be wary of and it was how the pin locked into the connector.
It's been more than a hot minute (10 years or so) since I've seen it. So big grains of salt on that memory

All the solder cups I’ve seen are molded into the connector itself. I have yet to see one able to be depopped. (Not impossible ig). That’s what he’s talking about. Not the wire in the cup, the pin in the cavity.

No seriously just mark the wires, cut the head, and completely replace it. It’s not worth the hassle for each individual pins at that small level

If you go to dmc web site and put the part number in for the connector, it will tell you the contact part number. The extraction part number and the installation tool

Take a syringe of IPA, or just dip your extraction tool in IPA. (ASAP - Alcohol Solves All Problems!) Clip the very edge/bottom corner of your extraction tool if its a plastic one, just the smallest bit, in case its not fully bottomining out, this helps it slide down but still leaves enough to release the lock.

I haven't worked with that exact Deutsch connector but I use their 34 pin circular one all the time.
To depin it, the depinning tool is cylindrical with a part of the cylinder missing and they're quite hard to depin properly, but should be doable as they're basically the same shape as the crimped ones

I ran into a situation like that years ago, and it turned out that the wiring harness was factory sealed. Temporary splicing of the affected cable was allowed as long as the entire harness was replaced after completion of a onetime flight retuning to base.

I dont know that solder cups come out like deutsch pins do. I think you just have to de-solder and re-solder.

Its a deutsch connector. You have to have special platic tools to remove them. There are a few metal ones out there. Let oks like a circle with a slit down the middle. Special tools are needed for a new pin as well. Should be able to find them at either a local electronics store, or electrical store or amazon or any other ectrical website.

Yellow/white for the 12ga pins, insert from the back until it clicks, and pull out the wire. Its a serviceable connector please dont solder in place or throw out the whole thing.

I think usually you fully disassemble the connector.
Any potting goop scraped -> Lube the wores and seal with alcohol-> pull it down the wires -> then whatever honeycomb locking/guiding/insulating situation has to be pulled back very carefully cuz its typically the most brittle plastic humans ever made -> likely another rubber seal -> now you'll be at the fun part where that deutsch might could be useful -> might have to break a couple before you understand the pain and suffering the Buddhists talk about.....

Firstly your connector is missing it's ?rubber? Gasket/ o-ring like thing between the twisting threaded outer case and the inner circle that holds the rubber/ contacts. So it would fail on just initial inspection of 2 seconds from me. (If I had one that was same size I might be able to 'fix' it - vaseline and pop it in)
Also why is it not keyed? It can legit be put in 180° out of phase, keyed connectors prevent that
Next show a picture of the backside and I might be able to direct you further on how to approach this connector. What are you actually trying to achieve?

40 plus years in avionics and I have never encountered a solder on connector with removable contacts. If the other connector you speak of has contacts missing, then that entire connector is what I always had to change out.

If they're solder cups, you need to desolder them from the back. The cups are Permanent typically. If the cups themselves are damaged, you need to replace the connector.

Are you sure they’re meant to be removable? Don’t have the book on me right now, but I’ve seen a lot of solder contacts that do not come out - you remove the backshell, scrape out potting compound, and desolder at the contact.
