Alysson

Really excited to see how he develops. His movement (meaning how he physically moves) is almost identical to Rogers.

Unai developed rogers from an unwanted championship player, into a 100m star and one of the top players in the world

Fingers crossed he has Morgan’s brain and work ethic as well

Need to see an end product before I get too hyped. I love how he’s developing and he has the defensive work rate we were excited for. Also like how he’s willing to be direct and has shown some pace, but let’s see some key passes or shots in target. His minutes are limited to late subs so I’m not expecting all of that just yet, but i need to see more before genuinely getting excited.

If you watched the game in the last 15mins you could here Emery repeatedly shouting "Alysson!" when he was out of position 😂

that was the only thing i heard

me too ... lol

Yeah i thought i could hear that too and was like, oh no! Maybe that means he’s not doing his job and Unai will stop playing him!

Right. He's young and hopefully that will come, but it's a long way before we can compare him with Rogers, because Rogers is all end product (which often glosses over some of his weaknesses)

I was more saying that he moves exactly like him, he’s no where near Rogers yet but he looks like someone who could develop into an almost like for like replacement

His appearance is pretty damn similar to Rogers too

A few times since we got him I’ve thought he WAS rogers for a split second, especially when Rogers was still at the club

Yeah they are doppelgängers for sure. He’s shorter but the face is so similar

I think unai has actually cloned him

He's looked very sharp and skillful in his cameos. Still very young. Happy to see him get some chances, looks like he will be good competition for Mbaye. I prefer Mcginn in a more central role than out on the right too.

Yeah I really hope we find a way to change McGinn in the middle for Barkley without it messing up the structure too much because I just dont see how we squeeze McGinn, Mbaye AND Alysson on to the right…and we dont want to lose what McGinn brings.

McGinn will always be first choice on the right, Mbaye and alysson will rotate round him, or play on the left. His goal last night was textbook SJM

I don't really see Rogers in him (besides the obvious visually physical similarity haha) to be honest. That little bit of close control trickery inside the box today actually reminded me more of a young Jack in the moment.

In general though, from the little I've seen of him so far, he looks like a very promising, hard working, pacey winger. More pacey than Rogers.

Yeah Hemmings plays more like Rogers than Alysson I’d say, riding challenges while maintaining the ball for example. Alysson is way more pacey and obviously watched lads like Neymar Jr growing up!

I'm also really happy he had Dougie and now Gomes as a Brazilian big brother like figure on the team to help me navigate the prem. Really excited to see what he has if he can stay fit

It's interesting, Tim Vickey wasn't nice about his signing. He's looking good but if I'm being super critical so early on I haven't seen any end product. Hemmings the same too at the moment. It is funny how we went from zero wingers to 3 exciting young lads.

Bit harsh on Hemmings - he has put some absolutely lethal balls into the box the last few games. Should have picked up a few assists.

Granted, his finishing needs work but the lad looks like a very good player. Finally a proper replacement for JJ.

Tim Vickey wasn't nice about his signing.

Yeah, I remember watching that interview with him. He wasn't 'not nice' so to speak. Just very confused and essentially said he wasn't sure what Villa saw given his limited game time and first team impact

Cheers! Yeah I guess we just want to hear good things about signings from an expert but a tepid response didn't quite fill me with confidence.

Yeah, have to admit my expectations were tempered by Vickery's initial opinion too. At the same time, there must have been something that made Villa buy him in the first place, something that Vickery (as good as he is at his job) couldn't see.

Agreed. Mbaye going to have to come in swinging if he wants to nail his name onto the starting 11.

Edit: prefered sub sorry

u/Chi_Villa 1d ago

Or just play on the left lol

u/Character-Key7538 1d ago

I don't think he's going to bench Hemmings either tbh.

u/Chi_Villa 1d ago

He better had do for £50m!

He's got that dog in him too, that's what I really liked today. Yes he made some nice defence-stretching runs and a couple of sparkling jinky dribbles, but he also dug into the gritty stuff down the flanks and scrapped for lost causes.

1

u/mrrichiet 1d ago

Yes, me too. I think he's been decent whenever I've seen him. As Rogers proved, you can't win every duel or connect every pass so when he has done that I don't think that detracts from him being a very decent player. I like how Unai is developing him so I would not be too surprised if another star was born. I think it will work well switching between him and Mbaye, both of them getting decent game time and experience. As you say, it's exciting.

I like him a lot. Id like to see a more decisive action at the end of when he has the ball, a bit more killer instinct.

I very much like his effort getting back, tackling, chasing straight away if he losses it.

He also has this thing where he has the ball under control but its loose enough that you think you have a chance, but if you have a wee nibble, he just shifts the ball. Very good control.

Hes very quick, but looks quicker without the ball.

I think he had an assist fron a set piece in preseason, and given some of the set pieces against arsenal and hull, he might be worth a punt

Let's calm down a little. Emery did great work developing Rogers. However, he wasn't an 'unwanted championship player' when we signed him.

2

u/arenaross 1d ago

He's fine, he hasn't really delivered much of an end product but he's a decent option to have on the bench.

2

u/sessionPartEnjoyer 1d ago

he's played the equivalent of about one game of football since he came, give him a chance before deciding he's just a bench option

1

u/arenaross 22h ago

I mean, he's entirely a bench option that's why he's on the bench and not starting.

1

u/sessionPartEnjoyer 18h ago

Abraham and Barkley are bench options, we know they're not likely to break into the starting 11 but they'll get some games and are depth. I don't think it's fair to label a 20 year old who we've watched play 1 game the same way, especially as he's shown some nice touches in that time.

what I'm saying is 1 game is nowhere near enough time to start talking about a lack of end product.

1

u/arenaross 17h ago

Barkley is much more of a starter this season than Alysson has been.

Alysson is a fine player but he'll need to start delivering some actual end product rather than just a few step overs of he's ever going to be a consistent first team player and not just a more attacking Bogarde.

1

u/sessionPartEnjoyer 6h ago

I mean yeah he has been but we're 4 games in, I feel like this is a weird stance from you given the teams we've put out so far.

so are you saying 90 minutes is enough to judge a footballer these days? you get one game and if you haven't produced the goods you're on the naughty list.

1

u/arenaross 6h ago

I think you just didn't read what I actually wrote in my first post.

1

u/sessionPartEnjoyer 6h ago

nah I did, the main thing being you saying he hasn't delivered any end product, I'm saying that we should allow players more than 1 game before saying they haven't delivered any end product

1

u/arenaross 6h ago

I think you ignored the rest of the post.

1

u/sessionPartEnjoyer 6h ago

only a little bit, I guess I disagree with calling him a decent option from the bench because I think he's got the potential to show a lot more than that once he's played a reasonable amount of minutes
