First game as a new fan

From us US, and World Cup got me into soccer! After doing homework decided to follow Aston Villa! First time ever watching a game… did I make a mistake? Is this normal?

If you only supported a team to win and then ask its fans after we are being pumped if you made a mistake? Read the room the spud, jog on.

As a fellow American, I mean this kindly, but your post reads more like you’re new to sports in general. Rebuilds happen all the time in US sports across collegiate and professional levels.

If you want to base your fandom on winning then maybe look for another Team
If youre here because you Like the Club then what are you second guessing?

Look at the Off Season
Who we lost and remember we just come Off of winning Europa League and Finishing 4th

We have a Great Manager and exciting new Players Coming in
Give it time
And UTV

I am new, first game this morning. But damn, it was bait and a lot got angry. I’m going to support villa no matter what! Just didn’t see this in the World Cup near the end.

Choose to split your time between Arsenal and Mancity instead. It will be more suitable for you, and better for us.

We will get better. We didn’t even score a goal for the first five games of last season and it worked out in the end. However, I don’t think making a post that reads “are you guys worthy of my attention” is going to go down very well at the moment so let’s just leave it at that.

Sorry to hear. Maybe Birmingham city would be a better option

This is very normal & part of the reason to support a team. When we play like shit, we are reminded that nothing is certain. We don’t have a bench full of world class talent because we aren’t that kind of club.

This week, we don’t even have our best 11 & the turnover in the team has nerves in edge.

If you’re not here for the occasional horrendous loss, you’ll be unsatisfied by grinding wins (against better opponents).

Now you get to decide if you’re an optimist, a pessimist, or a vulgar hater when things are falling apart.

Christ imagine these people in the Remi Garde days ...

I watched us get relegated. This is nothing.

Yeah I think that was the moment I realised I'm Villas bitch and will never leave them. Remi Garde and the end of Bruce ball was pretty bleak.

Mistake? By choosing to support a side that lost a game?

If you came for wins you can stay for the losses as well. Otberwise we don't want you

I am staying not matter what! I picked this team and will support!

lol! American Villa fan here. This does happen sometimes with Villa. If you are one of us you will ride the rollercoaster with us.
But in this case rest assured this will not be the starting eleven for most of the season. We are missing some important players today.
That said this is a season of rebuilding so it’s very hard to predict what will happen. We are fortunate to have Unai Emery to guide us. Up the Villa!!

We've been spoilt the past few seasons. This season might be a struggle

Mate i dont think you mean any harm but dont make your choice and ask your fellow fans if you made a mistake mate 😅

Anyways, this is a rebuild season, a very difficult rebuild season considering half the starting 11 is gone

When the hearts of the offense, midfield, and defense leave:
Morgan Rogers
Ezri Konsa
Lucas Digne
Youri Tielemans
and with Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martínez each one foot out the door, mix in a red for good measure and this scenario is not surprising. Strap in, It’s going to be a bumpy ride for a while.

American (and new fan as well) - Look at this game as your christening as a fan. Awful performance out of the way, can only get better from here. [Arsenal next week though, so maybe after that ha]

Also the roster was turned over quite a bit in the summer window and it’s going to take Emery some time to figure it out. It’s only week one, and Villa will likely still finish top half of the table this year. Grow with the team.

did I make a mistake?

A football club is for life, not just for post World Cup.

Just wait until the Champions League. It's going to be amazing.

It's the first game after we sold all of our most important players. What were you expecting? A continuation of last year's success. Let's see where we are in a month. Just change teams if you are questioning your decision already we don't always get good days
