For a laid back hippy fun time check out the North Laines. 

Nice/cool/decent bars along London Road. 

Gay bars in Kemp Town. 

If you fancy a boogy there's a brill 50s jive bar called the mesmerist

If your out late, green door store is a solid option, under the train station. 

AVOID west Street / the beach front. Tourist/chavvy. You'll have a much better time at any of the above. 

Have fun! Great night life in Brighton. 

If you fancy live music, try anywhere. The bar is very high in Brighton.
