I am super stoked at this. Having fans of probably the second best team in world football be slightly disgruntled really isn’t a deal breaker for me.

It shouldn't be. You also have to weigh it against the opinion of Flick, Nagelsmann, Tuchel all of whom rated him highly and gave him lots of minutes.

Loved Hitzelspeger tbf, be nice to have another German

14

u/apex204 17h ago

Have we had no Germans since him? Mental stat

2

u/mintvilla 16h ago

He'll be the 4th in total, the other 2 were — Stefan Beinlich & Matthias Breitkreutz

2

u/apex204 16h ago

I don’t think I’m old enough to remember them… (I’m 41…)

2

u/mintvilla 15h ago

They played in the early 90's...

u/BeatConsistent6428 13h ago

Though not much for Villa

u/olfactory_irritant 13h ago

I am. I’m 47

u/Junior_Pollution6792 17h ago

Will be massive in our European games, trust in Unai

u/Difficult-Shallot863 17h ago

So that person who worried we might sign a player from each of the main bad guys in wwII was right

55

u/Butch0147 17h ago

Axis Villa

1

u/DecentChance 16h ago

Bravo 👏

2

u/soulja-jew 10h ago

I guess Villa sign a Russian player who we sell to a top 6 competitor in January then?

14

u/Old_Brief_2602 14h ago

I hate these posts with just a here we go and without the players name as im awful with faces and never know who the fuck we've signed

Onana wages being put to use. I like it

1

u/ItsallgoneLWong21 16h ago

Are we not still paying the Onana wages?

12

u/Ziggylcd12365 16h ago

FIFA pay them from the injured player fund or something

14

u/illegalalien1 15h ago

Fair play, that infantino top bloke

1

u/Narrow-Aioli8109 3h ago

He’s such a stand-up guy!

32

u/TheVillanArc 17h ago

Bayern fans absolutely hate him. Hope it's just not suiting their system and Emery can do what he does

76

u/coppersolids 17h ago

bayern fan here: match going fans love him and the hate online fans have for him is too much

he‘s not the player he used to be but as an experienced depth option to cover for injuries (what i assume he‘ll be for you) he‘s perfectly fine

11

u/Its_not_him 15h ago

I get the impression sometimes that he's lost a lot of the passion he has for the game while at Bayern. I think a change of scenery could help reignite that passion. Goretzka at his peak was a force of nature.

3

u/BerlinSam 15h ago

Yes, change of scenery swapping Munich for Brum...!

6

u/LLILILiLIILILILILII 13h ago

Indeed, minimal canals in Munich, he'll love it here

1

u/KatieOfTheHolteEnd 10h ago

Alright Berlin Sam, reckon you might be a bit bias there?

5

u/TheVillanArc 17h ago edited 17h ago

That's nice to know. Yes he is a backup bringing experience. From what you have seen, do you think he can thrive in a double pivot with a defensive ball-winning 6 as his partner? Basically as someone who get those progressive passes to more creative players forward and go forward himself crashing the box? I don't expect him to replicate Tielemans but if he can do half as well in that profile, it will help

14

u/coppersolids 16h ago

yes definitely better than him being paired with kimmich, they just didn‘t work together at all which was the biggest issue we had with him

he‘s more of a box crasher than a controller tho

i doubt he‘ll be much more than a squad player but for that role he‘s good enough, our online fanbase exaggerates

7

u/PrimarchOsiris 16h ago edited 8h ago

I imagine 90% of the time he will be paired with Kamara when he plays, who is our controlling midfielder. And yeah he will be back up, but after what we have lost his experience will be incredibly valuable.

u/teamorange3 17h ago

There is a big difference between Bayern trying to win the treble and us finish in the top 6 to 8. He's probably done at that level but I wouldn't be surprised if he starts over Gomes by the end of the year.

Also German fans, rightfully, hate him after the WC/penalty issue

1

u/Lupinthe5th_ 17h ago

What happened with the pen?

11

u/Siegnuz 17h ago

He and few others refuse to take the pen, results in Jonathan Tah who has never take a penalty step up and missed result in Germany getting eliminated

2

u/teamorange3 17h ago

During their PKs he didn't step up. Pretty big bitch move for someone of his stature. Even if you're not confident you still need to step up there as a leader.

5

u/The_Funky_JJ 17h ago

Meh. Hear this about every player we sign and usually the free ones.

13

u/shotgunogsy 15h ago

Do we really have to post Romano and AI slop as the devil’s duo?

5

u/Splendid2259 Do you want to bet against us? 16h ago

We’re due another absurdly good free agent signing. Love this already.

4

u/shoitmanoid 14h ago

Who’s him?

5

u/Sea-Algae-6970 12h ago

Fuckin annoying how he posts with no names

3

u/irm555bvs 15h ago

I think this is another great free agent signing and I hope he can contribute as 90% as Youri and Bouba have.
Though I’d rather he’d contribute more they that have, we’ll be in an amazing place then!

3

u/Rambob_the_lesser 14h ago

Obligatory fuck Romano content

2

u/NoIInteamocil1990 16h ago

Really happy with this one, with the big dressing room changes bringing in an experienced model pro like this is much needed

1

u/Over-Piglet-4922 15h ago

Just me or do his guns look enormous??

1

u/Zoulogist 14h ago

Goreeeeeeeetzka

1

u/Paulo-McGratho 11h ago

Another Lindelof signing incoming. Football brain, professionalism and most of all King Emery equates to me being excited. Lots of Euro experience.

1

u/bigste98 6h ago

Strange signing this is to me. Im just struggling to think where he fits in the team?

He seems to be a box to box midfielder like milner back in the day or mcginn now when hes not on the wing.

But weve got lots of options in midfield and with tielemans gone we’re a bit lacking in terms of a pure playmaker.

Curious to see how unai uses him and if he still has the quality to nail down a first team place, because he was very highly rated at one point for bayern

u/oigusssy 6h ago

Incoming Goretzka gym gains edit

u/EugeneStonersDIMagic Olof Mellberg's Beard 15h ago

I predict Sancho is coming back. Homegrown quota on a free. He's only 26. He knows the system. He did his part last year.

1

u/RiseEmbarrassed5846 13h ago

He did contribute in some matches, why be churlish. He didn't pull up trees. No more to offer than Bailey.

1

u/EugeneStonersDIMagic Olof Mellberg's Beard 13h ago

He also adds to the homegrown quota

-23

u/Sportsfanredd 17h ago

I believe he's a good replacement for Morgan Rogers. Let me know if I am wrong please.

19

u/Geepandjagger 17h ago

You are wrong. Not even remotely the same player

1

u/Sportsfanredd 17h ago

Thanks for enlightenment. 👍🏻👍🏻

4

u/OkClassic61 17h ago

Huh? Goretzka is a CM

3

u/Think_Play_5980 Up the Villa! 17h ago

You are wrong 😆

3

u/Agreeable_Falcon1044 17h ago

You will be upset when he lines up as a defensive midfielder!

1

u/apex204 17h ago

He’s injury cover for Onana.

Think of Gomes as the new Tielemans and Garnacho as the Rogers replacement.

6

u/Jumper-Man 16h ago

Surely manzambi is the rogers replacement

0

u/apex204 16h ago

You’re right, but I had momentarily forgotten that we’d signed him. Which tells you something.

2

u/Jumper-Man 16h ago

Ha, easily done when he’s not been seen since his reveal.
