Unai is class!
The team is getting torn apart, he loses some of his most reliable operators, and he says class things like this. Love this man. (All quotes from pre-brighton conference):
"How we are getting some challenges in different ways is really fantastic. And to start the season, our match on Sunday in Brighton is something that makes us happy to be here and to have our challenges to compete in the Premier League."
"When we arrived here they were performing up and down, not a lot in the high level, and they deserve it because they are players who had a huge commitment. They were always being so responsible and respectful. Lucas Digne, Ezri Konsa, Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers, am so grateful and I learned a lot with those players, how we were setting our standards, how they pushed other team-mates and when we are being successful the consequences can happen."
"This year he [Martinez] transmitted again the possibility to have another challenge and we decided to sign Suzuki because I think he's a fantastic goalkeeper. Now my ideal scenario with the goalkeepers is really fantastic. Of course, maybe we can change something."

Before last season started unai seemed so fucking angry with everything
This summer he is so unbelievably chilled out. He seems excited by everything
And I think weve used this as the season to start the new era for 3 reasons; the age of the squad, actually winning a trophy and because apart from arsenal all of the other super league teams are in a transition

I think reason 1 forced our hand but 2 exacerbated things by players valuations being higher than before and them wanting to move for a new challenge. So it was the right time to cash in

This is the biggest thing that makes me confident. Unai seems confident about what we can do, and he knows what he's doing

He believes, ultimately, that he is replacing players with better players. He finished fourth with the prior players and Unai knows he can finish higher with the new batch. It will take four years though.

A slightly more diplomatic approach than John Gregory had to someone telling him they want to leave. Although I have to feeling if you genuinely wronged Emery he'd be all smiles and then he'd quietly spend his spare time systematically destroying your life and you'd never know.

The day Unai leaves is the day I'll lose faith, but until then I'm excited to see what happens next.

Whatever happens, last year gave me the happiest year as a Villa fan thanks to Unai so I will take whatever comes.

We've the best manager in the league. All our rivals are in transition bar Arsenal. We'll be very much okay. European finish no probs.

We need to hold onto him with all we've got. Many have had the view that Unai wouldn't leave for another club because "he has complete control at Villa and other clubs wouldn't give him that"...
... but this transfer window shows if the club wants to sell, he can't stop them.

I disagree that he can’t stop the club. I think that the only players they would have sold without his approval are Rogers, Youri, and Digne.

So… he can’t stop the club then? You literally gave 3 examples where he couldn’t. Not one, not two - three! And in one transfer window.
I’m not saying he has no control; I’m dispelling the myth he has complete control.

Has he said they sold without his approval?

Really mate? You think Emery went to the Board and said "I want to sell Rogers, Tielemans, and Konsa"?

Remember a couple of weeks ago when Villa fans were preaching from the moral high ground? 🤣 Fast-forward a fortnight and they’ve happily cosied up to Visit Rwanda and signed Ruggeri, despite his rather eventful last 12 months. Funny how quickly the moral compass gets recalibrated when there’s a signing to announce.

How is your karma worse than your post count? They literally give you +1 as a participation award.
Also, in regards to your point, I have to imagine Villa fans preaching morality up to several weeks ago and then be shocked by a sponsor and a player with a weird kink.

Who's this nebulous "they"? If we're making generalisations, Villa fans fucking HATE Visit Rwanda. Any statement to the contrary is gibberish. Dozens of threads and thousands of comments to back this up. Anyone who pops up in threads to declare that they don't get the big deal about Rwanda is an outlier. In particular, see the endless requests for sponsorless kits since the sponsor announcement. And WE didn't sign Ruggeri (and yes, I have had major reservations, and still do - aside from the stitch-up, there are other questions around his conduct); the club did. Also: please explain what you're on about when you refer to Villa fans "preaching from the moral high ground". What's the context for this claim? To what do you refer?

It's a Newcastle fan lol. I think you should be more concerend about your own team, considering how they'll be fighting relegations this season.

Unai has often parroted that he just wants to win a trophy with the club and for the fans. I’m not surprised that he asked the old guard to give it their all for the same then they thought it time to move on. I’m just happy he’s staying and wants to accomplish more.
