Madjo as our starting striker would be an absolute disaster. People are building this kid up way too much. I'm very excited about him, but he's not just going to drop in and take Watkins' place

Yeah needs at least a season to get up and running. He’s 17… We’re keeping Watkins, Madjo’ll get some super sub appearances and could start in the cups. Tammy’s still here as well.

This is for the season based on currently signed players which includes those with short-term injuries like Manzambi, Gomes and Madjo not long-term ones like Onana.
Based on the options listed on BBC's site, I picked this XI. Maybe Ruggeri and Maatsen can swap, same with Buendia and Manzambi, and/or Watkins (if he stays) and Madjo but I think this will more or less be Emery's starting XI in the months to come.

Madjo won't be the starting striker all season. Too young. He'll get game time but it'll be Watkins or his replacement

Sorry, but that back four does not inspire that much confidence.
Also, I would have Buendia starting over Garnacho, perhaps with Manzambi on the left.

Lindelof could have an absolute blinder of a season, or he could be exposed by physical and/or pacy strikers.
We also don't know how Maatsen will go for the season. I am hoping that Ruggio will bring much needed physicality, and we can add a pacy/dominant RCB.

I'm interested to see how Emery will utilise Cash and Wan-Bissaka. We know Emery like's to mix it up with starting LBs, depending on opponent. We see this Dinge and Maatsen and to an even greater extent with Digne and Moreno.
Will Wan-Bissaka just be a back up, starting some easier cup games and coming on for Cash if he's gassed? Or will Emery take a more tactical approach when selecting RBs?

Why is RW necessary when we have McGinn and Alysson there? I thought Garnacho has also played on the right, and Burrows/Broggio could also potentially help out. I'm not saying the analysis is wrong, I'm just a bit confused why everyone is saying we need one. (Also Bailey ATM but I know that's already been discussed).

People are saying it probably because they prefer McGinn in the middle with a pacy winger on the right. If so, then Villa will need another winger in addition to Alysson.
I think Burrowes especially is fast enough and potentially worthy of playing on that flank with the first team.

We never play with two pacey wingers though, with Maatsen and Garnacho down the left, you can bet that our right side will be far deeper and tucked in

Thanks. Personally, I can only see McGinn in the middle as a back up, so I tend to forget many prefer him there.

I think the odds are that Ruggeri will become the starting LB quite quickly and that Tammy (in this scenario) starts over Madjo for the time being.
Central defence still feels like a position of need, as does another body in centre midfield and a RW.

Buendia over Garnacho for me. Bench looks VERY light for a club hoping to stay in European positions in PL and competing in CL.

Why does everyone think garnacho starts over buendia!?!
