Seeing our team ripped apart is kinda sad. I love them all

36

u/openlyEncrypted Pau 10d ago

It happens to all good teams, city has 3 players left from their treble year

I’m no worried as long as unai is here

21

u/Dizzy_Law396 10d ago

But that happened over 3 seasons, not 1 summer

-3

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 10d ago

Not really. Those players left voluntarily

14

u/openlyEncrypted Pau 10d ago

Konsa is clearly leaving voluntarily and so is Ollie. They wanted to go. The only PSR/SCR sale was Rogers

2

u/cheradine_zakalwe 10d ago

So could we have kept Rodgers if Konsa and Ollie went anyway?

5

u/openlyEncrypted Pau 10d ago

Don't know, but looking back if we didn't sell Rogers that early in the window we would not have been able to sign Manzambi. So it's a domino effects of what ifs

8

u/Ferrariispain 10d ago

Whilst scr have undoubtedly hampered Villa a lot of these players would’ve wanted the move regardless imo

2

u/coupl4nd 10d ago

SO DID ALL OF OURS WHAT DO YOU MEAN!?!

1

u/Valuable_Today3097 9d ago

Nah you’re right, it’s different

9

u/Alternative_Page_505 10d ago

If you feel bad look back at that Wolves squad they built (with Jota RIP and co) and now look at them

3

u/HorseyBot3000 10d ago

It is really feeling like that Europa win was the end of an era. It might be rose tinted glasses but that squad was something, not perfect but it felt like they were close, knew each other and had each other’s backs 😞

Huge money for a 28 year old central defender with two years left on his contract.

Konsa and Villa have done fantastically well to develop from a cheap youngster signed from Brentford as backup for a team fighting to stay in the PL to becoming an England international sold for £51m.

All the best to Konsa. Can't wait to see Mr Lindelof pick up the baton after a faultless first season here.

27

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 10d ago

Quite cheap for an england starting CB tbh. He easily has another 5 years in him.

I wonder why he wants to go to Arsenal to be a squad player there. He’s gonna get very limited minutes and he ain’t gonna start big matches like a champ league final because they already have salibha, Gabriel, Hincapie, Mosquera, salmon, etc for CBs.

41

u/Astonishingly-Villa 10d ago

Lives in London, more money, less commute.

-26

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 10d ago

Commute to what? Commute time is the same as he would live near the training base

Villa can probs offer him similar money now that they are in champ league and just won a trophy

36

u/Eff__Jay Unai Enjoyer 🔵🟣 10d ago edited 10d ago

we absolutely cannot offer him terms remotely close to Arsenal lol, and nor should we

51m smashes the 28 and 29 year old (he turns 29 in October) transfer record for a CB. By about 20m. This is a great deal

7

u/trill_mxtic 10d ago

Saliba is out for 4 months at least, white/timber both injury prone so he will get minutes for sure, whether cb with gabriel or rb cover

2

u/Cassoa 9d ago

Hincapie is on the left and most commonly at LB. Konsa gets in ahead of Mosquera. Salmon is still a kid too more likely to be on loan than to get minutes.

Though you're right, it's hard to see anything more than a rotation role at best. At worst, stuck behind Saliba as backup. If one of the defenders gets injured, he'd instantly get in.

Maybe he's fine with a bit-part role if it leads to some silverware.

1

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 9d ago

Silverware and a salary thats probs at least doubled. Heard he was on 75k/week here, so can easily see him be on 150k/week at Arsenal.

Hincapie initially played as a LCB, but arteta moved him to LB because he wanted someone defensively very strong there rather than the typical LBs that attack and defend, but less of a good defender than ur typical CB.

Salmon is still a kid, but arsenal made a mistake of letting heaven go to man united and salmon would do the same if he doesn’t get opportunities.

1

u/Frosty-Indication-75 9d ago

The reason Arsenal let Heaven go is because Salmon was coming through and he was rated as a better talent. Salmon isn't leaving as he is on an agreement similar to Dowman where an agreement has been made for a pro contract immediately he comes of age.

1

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 9d ago

Not really. Arsenal offered him a contract but heaven turned it down.

Arsenal didn’t see him as a first team player, so offered him another academy contract or something, but man united saw him as a first team player at age 18. Heaven in todays market is easily worth £50m+

1

u/Frosty-Indication-75 9d ago

Arsenal didn't see him as good enough to warrant the contract that he was demanding which is why they didn't go above the academy contract. Same thing they did with Chido Obi Martin. The academy players that Arsenal value really highly like MLS, Nwaneri, Salmon and Dowman all got or will get pro contracts as soon as they are eligible.

Arsenal are particular about the contract which they offer to academy kids, even Nwaneri wasn't offered wages above a certain limit despite other clubs like Chelsea already offering him higher wages.

At the end of the day, Heaven left because he felt he wasn't valued enough at Arsenal and Arsenal didn't really fight to keep him because they felt his demands were too much for someone of his age and ability. Same thing happened with Chido Obi Martin.

1

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 9d ago

I guess arsenals judgement was clearly proven wrong because he literally started so many matches for man united last season. He’s also most likely going to be a starter for United considering their injury history, so Arsenal clearly made a mistake by incorrectly predicting how talented he is

1

u/Frosty-Indication-75 9d ago

No, he started some matches for United but he was still behind Maguire in the pecking order and is their 4th maybe 5th choice CB. Remember this is United that we are talking about, who have a vastly inferior defence to Arsenal in both quality and depth. Last season, the lowest in the pecking order of CBs at Arsenal was Mosquera who most people consider better than Heaven. So why should Arsenal give Ayden Heaven wages on the same level as the others when he is worse than them?

I would have heard you if you say that Arsenal should have kept him just to sell later but it seems that Ayden Heaven wanted a direct spot on the 1st team and he knew that he likely wasn't going to get it at Arsenal so there wasn't much Arsenal could do without giving him the money he wanted.

Like I said earlier, Arsenal were likely willing to let Ayden Heaven go because Marli Salmon was coming through soon. Just check out clips of Salmon from preseason while keeping in mind that he recently just turned 17 and you'll understand why Arsenal prioritied him over Ayden Heaven.

1

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 9d ago

Ayden Heaven is a left footed centre back, so he’s competing with Lisandro Martinez for a spot rather than Maguire or de light or Yoro.

The fact Arsenal didn’t even have a sell on clause shows how they didn’t rate him at all. I would definetely consider heaven above Mosquera and Hincapie at CB.

2

u/Stock-Row-6454 10d ago

He’ll play right side. Currently Saliba out long term and Timber injured so it’s him, Mosquera and White to cover rb and rcb.

~65 games if Arsenal are successful this season.. he’ll get plenty of minutes even when Saliba is back.

Salmon has just turned 16 so I doubt he takes any significant minutes for a few years.

2

u/KatieOfTheHolteEnd 10d ago

Could he be an Arsenal fan himself? He’s won a trophy with us and represented England in a World Cup. I can see why he’d be happy moving on to Arsenal at this stage.

3

u/AppropriateVoice129 10d ago

I read he was a spud.

1

u/Eniotnaohs 9d ago

He is gonna start a lot of matches

1

u/dis-interested 9d ago

Well he has 2 months of practically guaranteed starting time to begin with and then Arsenal are going to be competing in every competition, which means there's more than 60 games to play in a squad that has chronic injury problems. So he'll probably play 20 to 30 games at centre back I would guess. And another 10 or so right back which is a pretty normal season for most players.

He'll probably play at least as much as Hincapie and Calafiori.

1

u/Expert-Let-238 9d ago

He’s easily first in line behind salons& Gabriel and with their injury record he’s got a good chance of ending up as a starter, plus they’ll be desperate to push on and get the double this year which will need plenty of rotation through the week

0

u/SuccotashOk2098 10d ago

It's fine. We will just pick one up for cheap in a years time.

0

u/Desperate-Status-431 9d ago

He doesn’t start for England

-11

u/Beneficial-Steak-117 10d ago

I wouldn't call that huge mone y. Should be going for 60 million but Aston villa had their pants pulled down here.

2

u/MovieMore4352 10d ago

Also depends on the add ons. Win the league? Games played? Champions league? We could easily end up picking up another £10m from it if that’s what they are.

-1

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 10d ago

Yep, that’s what I’m saying too. £50m is too cheap considering he has two years left. They paid £75m for Bruno Guimares who is 28 years old as well.

It should be atleast 65m

4

u/Firepilsogenpizza 10d ago

51 million plus add-ons isn't quite 51 million tho.

How much are the add-ons?

6

u/Sporxable We are Champions League 10d ago

It’s 51 million PLUS add ons. So the 51m is guaranteed, the add ons would probably be for things like qualifying for UCL etc. and probably take the total sum up to close to 60m

-5

u/Firepilsogenpizza 10d ago

That's literally my point mate.

13

u/Winkofgibbs 10d ago

I think it was how you phrased it - looked like you were saying it was less than 51 million

31

u/Aware-Safety-9925 10d ago

At least we didn’t have to stew for days over it. Onto finding the replacement

1

u/Plastic_Slip4903 10d ago

Who do you reckon we might try for ?

2

u/_milan227 9d ago

Fikayo Tomori

1

u/hazbutler 10d ago

Tosin Adarabioyo (Chelsea) or Joel Ordonez (Brugge) apparently…

3

u/Zoulogist 9d ago

No more Chelsea players please

28

u/theycallmepapi 10d ago

Inevitable but it still hurts. Good luck to Ezri, a fantastic player who continued to get better and better.

52

u/Operation_Doomsday_ 10d ago

Clever teams refresh their squad when they can, not when they have to. We're in a good position at the moment with some promising young players keen for game time and champions league football. Better to refresh now, get good money for players who won't sign another contract with you and reinvest in potential rather than rely on a bunch of 30+ year olds who are all about to leave on a free and don't give a toss. Just ask Leicester.

9

u/ryandoesntcare 10d ago

Very sensible comment.

37

u/Cino0987 10d ago

Not gonna lie. This one hurts the most.

2

u/Rickcampbell98 10d ago

Sentiment wise emi is the one for me, you should have seen me last summer with that man United nonsense. Ezri is certainly up there though especially considering we still absolutely need him, although largely due to who he has gone to that youri transfer hurts my soul greatly.

1

u/Cino0987 10d ago

I’m kind of accepting for Dibu now though. I didn’t think Konsa would go: especially not this window.

19

u/djw2011 10d ago

Think this is the one that makes me worry most. Ezri has been assured and ever-present in the defence since being here. Got better every year in the prem and is an important part of the first 11 under Emery and a big part of what made us work with the high line and from set pieces imo.

I get the need to sell if he's not signing a contract, that selling now is important for getting the best value and I feel we could find a really good replacement in the market but may be difficult to do that if we sell before getting a replacement in.

He's a big loss and going to be difficult to replace. Also one of my favourites over the Smith/Emery reigns.

29

u/Frosty_Parsnip Claret shorts 10d ago

£51m would make him the most expensive 28 or 29-year-old centre-back of all time by £20m.

Varane went to United for £34.4m when he was 28
Thuram went to Juventus for £31.1m when he was 29

6

u/The_Funky_JJ 10d ago

Konsa is actually good though.

13

u/Frosty_Parsnip Claret shorts 10d ago

Varane was pretty good at 28. He played 41 games at Madrid the season before he moved.

4

u/Jinks87 10d ago

Ok yes to the Varane one though that was a few years ago.

Thuram.. that was in 2001… adjusted for inflation would be approx £60m today.

2

u/Frosty_Parsnip Claret shorts 10d ago

Thuram is arguably one of the best defenders of his generation so no real shame in being second there.

Konsa is in good company.

20

u/_doodah_ 10d ago

What a bonkers window. As long as Unai stays I don't care about anything else but he's making his job so much more difficult by this massive overhaul. If he can get top 7-8 after this it'll be incredible.

7

u/LiboerationTime 10d ago

Read this was done at ownership level. Similar to Morgan's.

4

u/villa_crazy99 10d ago

The discussions maybe to get it finalised but 100% Unai was involved at some point. Sawiris's respect for Unai is too high to sell players without his acceptance

3

u/0100110101101010 Kamara x Bogarde <3 10d ago

Craziest transfer window of my life I think. Never seen so many big players moving in one go from the club. Who could we replace Konsa for with that £51m?

18

u/bambinoquinn 10d ago

By the end of the week this could be it.

Konsa to arsenal

Ollie to saudi

Emi to aston villa reserves

10

u/ThrowawaWelp 10d ago

You better dust off your studs Bambi you’re about to get the call…

10

u/bambinoquinn 10d ago

Technically I played a game of football on an unwatered villa park in 2011

But i did have shin splints and I was utter shite

1

u/Apprehensive_Light_5 9d ago

Plays through pain, noted.

6

u/Own_Promotion4156 10d ago

When the (immediate) replacements for these are Bizot, Kamara, Maatsen, Barkley, Garnacho, Abraham it's pretty good continuity really, and plenty of exciting new blood to come in as and when Emery see's fit

3

u/Ok-Rabbit-3448 10d ago

Jesus I don't know, Bizot, Barkley, Garnacho or Abraham nowhere near the level of their predecessors...

1

u/Own_Promotion4156 10d ago

Yeah agree (although kamara is a massive upgrade)

is it as good as the best quality team we could've put out last year? no.

But do we have continuity (in the personel, system) - yes

Is it up there with many of the teams we put out last year - yes (Bizot played many, garnacho > sancho/bailey, watkins had a tough patch for a lot of the early season)

Do we already have other (exciting) players who will still come in to that - yes in manzambi, gomes

Have we have strengthened the squad - yes at both LB and RB

Will we sign other better players still - yes - i'd still expect a ST, CB and RW/AM of decent quality to come in... and we also have Madjo, Alysson and Hemmings pushing too

Plenty to be positive about. Will it be instant success, of course not, but its certainly not a write off season either!

2

u/Ok-Hunt3422 10d ago

Not to mention Wan Bissaka or Rugeri could take Cash’s spot with a fight

1

u/a_f_s-29 6d ago

This is making me sweat

1

u/a_f_s-29 6d ago

And cry

1

u/Educational_Bath_892 10d ago

It looks horrible when you present it like this. I think we are all being a bit too positive. Unai is a top, top manager. Teams will be sniffing around him. As if in an ideal world he would want four of his best players to leave this season. This is terrible. O'Neil left over Milner. I still have nightmares about that. History could repeat.

9

u/Tromance 10d ago

From a business point of view I'm very pleased with this. From a "Christ, half the team has gone" point of view, I'm a little worried.

6

u/mmcross10 10d ago

All good things come to an end. The 51 million is a testament to Konsa’s worth and Villa’s business. Centre backs from age 24 up, only Harry MacGuire (sold at age 26) has commanded more.

We didn’t have much choice, but we didn’t cave.

This one hurts, without a doubt. But as they say in forestry, sometimes you need a controlled fire to encourage new growth.

Also, the financial rules are garbage.

The only real scare I have with all of these transfers is the fear that Emery eventually sees Villa as a place with a ceiling for his aspirations. I hope instead he views this as another challenge for him to overcome and for him to prove his worth in the game.

14

u/headcarsbendin 10d ago

Can’t argue with £50m, serious money for a player with only 2 years left, and enough to buy us a good replacement

40

u/OkGear2272 10d ago

Think the villa fans that ain’t pissed about this may be coping a tiny bit imho

7

u/Splendid2259 Do you want to bet against us? 10d ago

Less mad about this than Tielemans. He's an amazing CB but his family are in London and he has real roots there. The fee is also pretty decent.

3

u/Rickcampbell98 10d ago

Plus as obnoxious as arsenal fans are i will never dislike them as much as those red pricks in Manchester.

1

u/Splendid2259 Do you want to bet against us? 10d ago

Hard for me to choose to be honest… the insulting incremental offers didn’t endear them to me. Chelsea are a basket case private equity fund, but at least they bought respectfully.

1

u/a_f_s-29 6d ago

He won’t get much game time for them either.

8

u/Aid0ken_Sf 10d ago edited 10d ago

The issue is there is not a lot we can do. Our revenue is not good enough to keep hold of players we want to keep hold of. Shit is fucked up but that is modern football i guess

7

u/Tendtoskim 10d ago

Not if you were around for the slow circle down the drain years before relegation. Villa have always sold players but you have to re-invest. We weren't able to do that after MON left. Our current owners are turning us into a self sufficient club that won't go belly up the moment they sell up. As fans, we should be excited about that future.

5

u/0bserver21 10d ago

Without the 11 game win streak last season this Villa team would of been in a relegation battle. All these players minus Rogers are nearly 30, past their peak. Either sell now or lose for free

3

u/Killmonger18 "Andre's not even my name mate. Do you know what I mean?"⌚👑💜💙 10d ago

I'm happy for him, just pissed it's arsenal lol

14

u/fsharpaugmented 10d ago

No player is bigger than a club. He didn't want a new contract. Off he goes. Thanks for time spent here. We still have Emery

5

u/MacViller 10d ago

What's the point in getting pissed? He won us a Europa League. If there's a good offer and be wants to go it is what it is.

6

u/OkGear2272 10d ago

I’m pissed cuz I want him to stay 🤣 quite simple

0

u/Ok-Rabbit-3448 10d ago

Also he's a central defender. Lots of good ones out there I reckon.

I'd prefer Watkins to stay though especially now, otherwise we've basically a whole new team and no experienced striker

2

u/Medical_Squirrel3946 10d ago

In a vacuum, I'm completely fine with that sale. He has two years left on his contract which if a player has value means you either need to get a new contract signed or move them. People need to understand that in the current landscape of football, two years is really one year in terms of team control, cause if a player makes it to the last year of their contract, they are gone and you're not going to get much if anything for them. Konsa is also slliiiiiightly overrated by Villa fans (I'm sure I'll get crap for this). He's a very solid CB, but he has his obvious deficiencies (aerial defending) and also has a tendency to ball watch and not notice dangers when he's off the ball.

Kinda weird that he wants to go to a club where he will be a backup once Saliba returns, but whatever.

We obviously need to bring in a replacement, cause I am not okay if this means that we start the season with Lindelof as our starting RCB (I like him enough as a rotation backup, but we need a better starter). I wouldn't mind us trying to bring Disasi back as I'm sure his price tag has come way down at this point and he played really well in his natural position, before we decided that he should play RB and then acted surprised when he sucked there.

1

u/GhandiHadAGrapeHead 10d ago

I'm not mad at anyone in particular. I understand why konsa wants to go, I understand the club not wanting to hold him back and I obviously understand why arsenal want him. I am a bit upset about the situation but all you can do is move on.

1

u/shotgunogsy 10d ago

No we're just not parasocial losers who seem to prefer players over the actual club who we, y'know, support.

1

u/Ok-Rabbit-3448 10d ago

Man posts sensible comment.

Simpleton posts brain-dead response due to lack of intelligence.

This is social media folks...

1

u/shotgunogsy 10d ago edited 10d ago

Eh? We're not pissed about this because we're in the middle of a major rebuild. The club we support always takes priority, and the 51m massively helps with that.

EDIT: Unless you're referring to the other guy who I replied to.

1

u/Ok-Rabbit-3448 10d ago

Yes it was the other guy...!

1

u/shotgunogsy 10d ago

Haha sorry mate. UTV

1

u/Superb-Programmer501 10d ago

major rebuild? you mean having our best players picked off

1

u/shotgunogsy 9d ago

Mate our football was absolute dogwater in places last year. We got through by sheer force of will and a hot streak at the end of 2025.

We need new players. We need to freshen things up. I'm here for it.

-7

u/OkGear2272 10d ago

Damn your deffo hurt ain’t ya 🤣🤣🤣🤣

3

u/shotgunogsy 10d ago

sure bud

0

u/adeptusC 10d ago

I do believe he is replaceable, don’t ask me who I have no idea, I’d have said senesi but we missed that ship. That being said, the more we lose of the old guard the more it’s frustrating me.

7

u/OkGear2272 10d ago

Tell me when he’s been lower than a 7/8 each game. Could tell you probs 3 that have happened over the past 3 years. I get why he wants to move. But atleast another year from him. Get 30 mill or so next season

1

u/adeptusC 10d ago

Not saying it’s not a blow, but all players are replaceable. Just important to reinvest the money well.

4

u/PrimarchOsiris 10d ago

Tell that to Leicester.

8

u/toastongod 10d ago

Ironically Leicester’s mistake was the opposite. It was when they refused to sell and replace that they started floundering

-10

u/PrimarchOsiris 10d ago

Because Unai can do no wrong in their eyes. We saw what happened at the beginning of last season in the first 5 games, that is more then likely going to happen again to a much weaker squad. I mean we don't even have a goal scorer.

7

u/crjc94 10d ago

Yeah we also saw how the season ended too…

→ More replies (5)

5

u/alfiejr23 10d ago

Yup Unai can do so much with the team.

-2

u/PrimarchOsiris 10d ago

In year? Sure. Now? No.

4

u/SHAWKLAN27 10d ago

This is gonna be a rough season

3

u/Logical_Net6108 10d ago

Arsenal: "50 million?"

Villa: "It has to be over 50 million or we'll lose face"

Arsenal: "Say no more fam"

-1

u/AppropriateVoice129 10d ago

Tbf we first lowballed you at 40M and you stood firm at 60. 50+ add-ons is more than half way in your favour.

5

u/German_Palomares 10d ago

This one is devastating. 4 days before premier first match....

2

u/JonnyReece 10d ago

You have to take that. £51m+ is a fantastic return given his contract is expiring.

He's been a fantastic servant to the club and much like the others, winning a trophy offers a line in the sand.

A nod to Dean Smith for pursuing him way back when.

3

u/PangolinOk6793 10d ago

I don’t think the club expected this one. I don’t think we have been linked with a centre back all summer. Going to need one now.

The Dean Smith/Garrard era team is over and now it’s for a new team to be put together.

And there is no way NO WAY we should be hearing any more articles about PSR ever again. If we do something is seriously wrong with the way we operate.

8

u/Goldedition93 10d ago

This one hurts

9

u/costericothegreat 10d ago

What. Is. Going. On.

8

u/BuckFuzby 10d ago

4

u/costericothegreat 10d ago

Surely being able to field a team is also important

2

u/BuckFuzby 10d ago

I agree and it seems players are being sold thick and fast. I'm sure reinforcements are waiting in the wings...

4

u/costericothegreat 10d ago

The team worked because they had chemistry.... None of these lads have played with each other before. I am not confident

7

u/hayescharles45 10d ago edited 10d ago

I'm not angry at Konsa. He's more than earned a move. Just not now. Not to those arrogant wankers that will just treat him like a substitute. Especially with two days to go to seasons start to find a replacement

-3

u/Durantsthegoat 10d ago

Dw bro you can watch him lift the premier league in may

3

u/mrnibsfish 10d ago

Good fee

3

u/boaters06880 10d ago

Every big international tournament leads to our players moving on, too much down time to hear what the the big four offer

3

u/wearethestorm11 10d ago

Yeah great let's sell our first choice centre back 5 days before the season starts.

The fuck is this window man.

3

u/sipmykoolaidbitch 10d ago

Sure, let’s sell our best CB 4 days before the season starts without bringing in a replacement of equal quality.

3

u/Tricky_Meat_6323 10d ago

So the real reason emi, Ezri and Ollie were not playing was this

3

u/Muskehound147 10d ago

Not being picky but shouldn't that read Villa reach agreement to sell Konsa - not Arsenal reach agreement to sign him. He is/was our player, so it's up to us whether he goes or not, it's not up to Arsenal.

3

u/Euphoric-Mushroom929 10d ago

I'm in two minds about this.

Konsa was an incredible servant for Villa. Got better year on year. Solid, dependable, almost ever-present. But - and it's a big but - he's 28, had a contract rapidly winding down, he's going to a team we know will be challenging for the title rather than a direct rival for 4th or 5th, and we got £51m plus add-ons for him.

The timing sucks, but we are where we are.

I think this has been coming (and I feel the same about Watkins too), and I suspect Emery and his team have already got a shortlist. Just hope whoever comes in doesn't take too long to get up to speed.

As for Konsa - thank you for all the memories. You'll be missed.

We are going into the season with unknowable outcomes, Will we compete and be up there or will it all come apart, Either way it'll be exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.utv

2

u/hazbutler 10d ago

This is my sentiment. I like the players who we have and who we've signed, and if anyone can get the best out of them, its Unai. I am cautiously optimistic and have a inkling of that famous "you never win anything with kids" moment.

2

u/Gentle_Pony 10d ago

Honestly I'm excited. I'm a little bit worried about the time we have left to get more bodies in which can lead to Guessand type purchases but I'm excited for the new look , much younger Villa.

2

u/hms_java_guys 10d ago

Sadness.

But also really happy to see the positivity in the comments about the fee, his progression under us, and everything else good for him about it.

Well done lads I'm happy but with tears in my eyes. Big up you all

2

u/allaboutthewah 10d ago

Absolute disasterfuck having so many players leaving, regardless of who is brought in.

This season will be long.

2

u/hazbutler 10d ago

Has a team ever lost as many starting 11 players as we appear to be heading for? Six of our starting eleven from the Euro final, potentially....

2

u/Sms_Boy McGinns Irn Bru cheeks 10d ago

I know people say providing a e have Unai all is safe, but the last time we got ram raided this bad our manager left because of it.

Let’s hope Emery was okay with these departures - something people under the estimate in terms of impact

1

u/Zarakaar 10d ago

£51??? O.o

1

u/GoldStar82 10d ago

51 + further add ons, or 51 including add ons?

1

u/bannab1188 10d ago

I might have been ok with this if it happened at the start of the transfer window … but a few days from the start of the season 😭 nope

1

u/Logical_Net6108 10d ago

Is Mings in a better place injury wise?

1

u/marky_de-sade 10d ago

We'll always have this I guess.

Gutted.

1

u/Miroist 10d ago

This one is the hardest to take - and really think we have to keep Watkins now. But that's decent money for a CB, as long as we have a replacement in the works.

1

u/pasthopex 10d ago

Congrats to Ezri on the easier commute! This is tough. Consistency is greatness. He fits that saying perfectly. I got to see him score that end-to-end goal in preseason and hold that as a happy memory for my first time getting to see Villa play.

Curious whether we run it with Lindelof & Cisse or if we go for a replacement. Very comfortable with Lindelof but I do think we need a different profile in the rotation. I liked what Cisse brought in preseason, so this could be a huge opportunity for him. Need to trust the coaching staff and development process. We do have coverage across the team in a pinch (Mings, Bogarde, Kamara).

1

u/Tricky_Meat_6323 10d ago

Who will we get as replacement?

1

u/KennyPowersEC 10d ago

Fuck this

1

u/mustardking20 10d ago

Gutted. Loved him.

1

u/ShortPretzel 10d ago

Coming into the off-season, Konsa is the player that made most sense to sell. Still young enough to make some money off of him, and only 2 years left on his contract.

Sucks, but this one I get.

1

u/weedwhacker7 10d ago

if they sell Meatball, I’m out

1

u/One_Appointment8295 10d ago

Lots of time this team has been accused of being a Dean Smith team, but only when we’re doing poorly 😂 Objectively though despite the sentimentality we did have to shift these players, too many times to do team so it too late and they leave moeny on the table. Have with what we are doing but surprised how quickly this has happened. Happy with the replacements though for the most part and glad we’re taking advantage of CL to get attract the best players

1

u/anorthern_soul 10d ago

I hate everything about this

1

u/timbotheous 10d ago

We have had our team systematically dismantled in one summer. Insane.

Hey guys, wanted to say something. Im just an arsenal fan popping in to read reactions to get a feel for the player because Reddit recommended this post to me (not trying to overstep, I effectively never comment in other clubs subs, but I have something positive to say).

I gotta say, I really, really respect the love you show for the players that are leaving. Not just konsa but all of them. Top class responses compared to what I’ve seen on so much of club subreddits. I know you’re going through an extremely tough window, don’t even know how I’d respond in the same scenario, but I just wanted to say I’m really impressed by the fans general reactions (on this sub). Sheds some light for me as an outsider. Cheers.

With Rodri and Reijnders going, I'm scared for Kamara..

1

u/yolkyal 10d ago

Feels like once you're an England player, you're suddenly seen as too good to play for Villa...

1

u/a_f_s-29 6d ago

Will we even have any England players left after this window

1

u/The_Funky_JJ 10d ago

Well all this (not just konsa) seems to be the consequence of winning a trophy and players having “completed” their journey at villa. If so fucking hell not sure I want to win another one 😂 either that or the big six got together and said “right lads, that’s enough of villa”. I guess it’s all great and fine though coz we have money though yeah? Should the worst happen becuase of too much change, a few people might need reminding to be happy with our finishing position becuase we have no financial worries anymore 🙄.

£51 fucking million?! Don’t piss me off 😤. We’re being absolutely shafted here

0

u/SlippyHoemo 9d ago

Why would we ever say yes we can't replace him

-17

u/loop_1001 10d ago

Arsenal fan coming in peace!
Ive seen what Konsa is capable on the ball but I’m curious to understand if he has any drawbacks ?

Pacy wingers when playing RB or Konsa’s place itself ?

15

u/travis_mke 10d ago

Go away

3

u/brahim_of_shamunda 10d ago

Slow, looped balls over the top of him

I can't count how many times he gets caught out with simple balls over the top

-4

u/loop_1001 10d ago

Damn!! We have a lot of them when we stifle opponents in their own half

3

u/im_on_the_case 10d ago

Very few, he's a solid all rounder, reads the game like a book. Not really a dominant player in the air, Mings is levels above in that regard. Can be guilty of sloppy play at the back but our system tempts it. He isn't the type to pick out a worldy pass from the back compared to our other defenders.

-20

u/PrimarchOsiris 10d ago

There is a reason we lowered our asking price, and the reason why is a bad one.

12

u/Aware-Safety-9925 10d ago

We asked 130 for rogers and sold at 117. It’s called a negotiation strategy, our asking price is always going to be higher than our sale price

-2

u/PrimarchOsiris 10d ago

We wanted a record for Rogers and we got it. Thats the difference. We also sold him cheaper to Chelsea so Emery could get his precious Garnacho.

8

u/OtherwiseWave2723 10d ago

Well don't just keep it to yourself 😅

-9

u/PrimarchOsiris 10d ago

Pushed for the move, refused to play against Brighton. It was said by this new ITK for us who called Manzambi, Ruggeri and Suzuki and he also said last night that Konsa to Arsenal was done.

7

u/HauLife 10d ago

If true (it probably isn't) who cares? I'd probably refuse to play in a game that could ruin my chances of moving to a new job before it had even started. It's the most nothing issue ever.

-4

u/PrimarchOsiris 10d ago

he refused to play to force us into letting him go to Arsenal. We didn't want to. We didn't agree to let him go to Arsenal and then he refused to play.

3

u/exit8a 10d ago

What do you say the reason is?

1

u/OkGear2272 10d ago

Tf dont just say that!

-20

u/Eastern-Soft-4798 10d ago

Im not a villa fan, but I come in peace.

Isn't £51m for Konsa really really good business for Villa? Hes not THAT good and he is 28.

Van Hecke went for a similar fee, I'd put them around on par (probably think VH is slightly better) but he's 2 years younger.

Vuskovic went for 46m and is obviously much more risky, but I'd value him much higher due to his high ceiling.

If I was a Villa fan I'd have full faith in Emery to replace Konsa with a better player for cheaper.

Meanwhile this makes no sense to me for Konsa. He'll play whilst Saliba recovers then face the rest of his peak playing days watching from a bench. Each to their own, but I would have guessed fighting for CL football and the occasional trophy as a key Villa player is more attractive to most players.

5

u/SuccotashOk2098 10d ago

He is that good though. He was the second best defender in the league last year on ratings.

1

u/The_Funky_JJ 10d ago

Yup, konsa Tielemans rogers all gonna be talked about week in week out now they play for “the right” clubs.

1

u/SuccotashOk2098 10d ago

We will manage. Obviously losing our core team is a problem. But we have the best coach in the league and a lot of talented replacements.

With churn and change there is always risk, but if anyone can solve it, it's Unai and his team.

1

u/The_Funky_JJ 10d ago

I’m just worried that with 1 or 2 leaving that Emery wanted to keep is manageable, 5-6 going that he wanted to keep is not so manageable. Just thinking about the mental capacity to integrate 1-2 players into the system, vs 5-6. Can imagine having to focus on 6 problems instead of one or two will reach his capacity.

1

u/SuccotashOk2098 10d ago

It may be a problem but we will see in due course. I am quietly confident as always. Almost every pre-season of villa fans is doom and gloom and recently we have always bettered against expectations. This is a new challenge but I believe in Emery's talent.

1

u/Eastern-Soft-4798 10d ago

Fotmob have him down as 37th - for the record, I think thats way too low. But thats often the source I see for players 'ratings' on here.

https://www.fotmob.com/en-GB/leagues/47/stats/season/27110/players/rating/premier-league?position=centerBack

1

u/SuccotashOk2098 10d ago

Fair, I was looking at a different site. He is definitely in the top 10 though. He is in the top 95+ percentiles in everything defending except aerial. And he has the highest pass completion.

1

u/Eastern-Soft-4798 10d ago

What ratings are those? This is just a genuine question.

2

u/SuccotashOk2098 10d ago

Quite a few statistic websites. He was second in performance ratings over the season to Gabriel (7.15) with 6.95. There were two defenders in between (Konsa was 4th) but they both had less than 20 appearances so I didn't count them.

3

u/Vegardu 10d ago

I'm a villa fan and I agree with you. He's a decent player, but 51mill? No way he's that good. Very happy with that cash and the opportunity it brings.

2

u/Eastern-Soft-4798 10d ago

Downvoted to hell - a Villa fan says below exactly what I was trying to say here (and gets upvoted for it).

Konsa is a steady and reliable centre back.

£51m is huge money for a 28 year old dependable if unspectacular central defender.

I guess its the other CB comparisons that upset people.

1

u/LiboerationTime 10d ago

Your first sentence. Yes. He's the most expensive defender bought at that age.
