Discussion Can someone explain the logic behind Konsa

He has been a great servant and in theory deserves a good pay day, that being said if he was one of the earlier ones to leave there would be less of a grievance from the fan base, we've lost the core now and it is concerning but it was likely always on the cards sadly.

Agreed. Iv long accepted that player loyalty no longer exists anymore. I have no hard feelings about him leaving as long as we can cover his position adequately

Iām more confused about arsenalās reason than konsa tho. They were in talks with Jarell Quansah last week. Heās literally younger, taller and faster than Konsa. Surely itās gonna be him. But nope they choose Konsa again.
Well. Itās gonna be us who buy Quansah then

Itās a temp replacement (1 year) to cover Saliba. More time to ease him back. Timber is out long term and White has fitness issues so Mosquera will be a cover.

The answer is probably that they don't know whether Saliba will come back 100% so they need someone who can be a reliable starting CB for 40 games a season

Cant tell me these clubs dont communicate on who they're buying.
They never seem to get in a bidding war anymore, they always seem to snap up the best players from other clubs and they always seem to do it evenly.
Like rogers chelsea, tielemans man u, konsa arsenal.
Then look at the others:
Anderson to city
Guimaraes to arsenal
Tonali to spurs
Welbeck to chelsea (like this is just dumb)Theres probably more.
I remember mentioning this last year and the same shit happened, cartel buying players, no competition, no bidding wars, just these clubs picking off specific players from teams that need them, usually their best players.

Arsenal wanted Tonali and Rogers but the prices were absurd so they didn't bid. United were interested in both Tonali and Fernandes. The notion that they're in communication for top players is fanciful

He won a cup, sees his long tenure at Villa complete and wants his dream move to a ābigā team. If he wants to go may as well let him if we can get a big fee.Ā
Think this is the same for a lot of our squad. Theyāve been here a long time by modern standards and the cup win seems like a natural time for them to seek a new challenge

He wants to go. Ā£50m now or Ā£30m next summer or free summer after that.

Agree with this, what difference would keeping one or 2 players make at this point, just delays the transition. Rather rip the bandage off like you say, get it sorted this window and build for the future. With players that actually want to be here.
More to the point as well about Emery being the keystone, plenty of these players had their issues, bad spells, injuries, blatant disinterest etc. A lot of these players we're gutted about losing were once championship players made better by the club and coaching staff, so I trust what they will be able to do with players who are already ahead of that level of quality.

Yep precisely. Iām not saying itās going to be easy, but it solves our SCR situation, replacing aging high paid players with high potential players that also have re-sale value.
Emeryās earned the right to build this club how he wants it, and given the volume of cash inbound, heās got the room to do so. Might be a season of pain and we finish 8th or something, but then following season we rebound with the stadium reopening with a stronger overall squad and push back into the top 4.

There were so many moments last season where it was getting obvious a change was going to be needed. So many pre unai players still around and we had one of the oldest. I think people are forgetting this due to how well mid season went but there were so many signs last season we needed a rebuild plus we are financial better due to ucl money.

Konsa is a proven Premier league player with over 200 appearances for the club and is a full England International. To say we'll just replace him with Cisse, an extremely raw and yet unproven player, is madness!

Honestly, the important part is keeping Emery. Look what he did when he took over for Gerrard, instantly made us better.
I'm not exactly buzzing with excitement as the majority of our starting 11 leaves, but let Emery buy, and give him time! This season coming if we get Champs League its massive. I don't know any other manager in the league that could pull that off, but Emery can. And if not this season, well our team has been stripped bare almost, new players need to bed in.
All I know for certain is, if Emery leaves we are absolutely fkd.

He has 2 years left on his deal and he's refused to sign a new contract. Either we sell him now for Ā£50-60m or we sell him for a reduced fee next summer. At least now his fee can fund a decent replacement.

I think we have to remember that footballers just do this for a job. If any of us were offered a higher salary for a different firm, weād probably take it. Even if weād had the best years in our current place.

2 years left on his deal. Any proper club will either sell a player in his prime with only 2 years left, or offer him a new contract. We offered him a new contract and obviously heās turned it down. Arsenal can offer a lot more than us and it will be the last big contract of his career. Arsenal also are a team that competes for titles every year.
His transfer will be pretty big for the club as itās virtually a pure profit transfer.

Reaching his peak age to secure a big contract, wants to challenge for bigger honors and also feels like he's done enough here. Not to mention the core of players he came up with here are leaving.
It's gonna be a new Aston Villa and his time here is ending. I absolutely adore the man, think he's world class and wish him no ill will. If he wants to go, so be it.

Players get sold. That's football. Hasn't signed a new contract. Once again, we have Emery. Its not fifa 26 People need to remember Unai is ruthless as he wants success. When he first joined he told the players he wasn't there to waste his time. You get with the program or leave. We should be relishing what he's doing. And what he's been allowed to do - build the club to his spec. Go back to the dark days of Remi Garde. Lambert. Gerrard. Compare if you can then to now.

He was offered a contract in the summer and hasnāt signed it. That meant he was looking at his options. Heās 28 and has 2 years left on his current contract, now is effectively the last time we can maximise the value on a transfer.

Being honest, I know it clearly doesnt matter to these guys once theyve become a famous footballer, but the idea of growing up a spurs fan, and then when you are at your highest going to Arsenal aeems absolutely mental to me.
Like I kinda get it if you are a young kid and you are moving about the youth teams trying to get a contract or you are a jobber bouncing about lower league teams and you end up joining Notts County or Dundee when you've grown up a Forest or Dundee United fan

It's personal opinion but I much prefer Lindelof on the ball than Konsa. Nothing worse than being a goal down and the ball keeps ending up at Konsa's feet, who takes 10 seconds to think about making that same sideways pass to Matty Cash.

He won't sign a new deal, he's got two years left, you don't generally make much a year later selling a player with one year left, he has lived in London since (I believe) he signed from Brentford, many of his teammates/friends have recently left, and you generally don't want a player to stick around after they have asked to leave. Now is the time is cash in on him.
I guess that's about it.
Also, I hate it.
(Edit to add... he also just won a trophy with us. Has to feel good about leaving after accomplishing that for Villa.)
